Printer and Networking PRINTER

Lists down types of printer and explain briefly each of them. LED Page Printer It is a common type of computer printer that quickly produce high quality text or image. Its use a strip of LED instead of lasers. Impact Printer It is a DOT matrix printer which produces text and images when tiny wires pin on print head strike the ink ribbon on the paper. Non-Impact Printer It is a printer which produces text and image on paper without striking the paper.

What are the stages do we need to know when troubleshooting laser printer? Check the condition of the printer. Cables, device driver, Plug in and etc. Paper Jam. Due to wrong paper type, overload and etc. Output print slow. Output corrupted. Quality is poor. Laser Memory Errors. Blank Page. Networked Printer Error.

Why we are still using DOT matrix printer? For continuous data logging. Capability to print out multiples copy. Tolerant to hot and dirty operating condition.

What types of ports or interface used to connect our Printer and PC? USB port. Parallel port. IrDA port.

What is Print Server? A Print Server is a computer or device that is connected to one or more printers and to client computers over a network, and can accept print jobs from the computers and send the jobs to the appropriate printers.

NETWORKING
What is computer networking? Computer Networking is a group or collection of computer and device which is interconnected for the purpose of communication between users and to share their resources.

Why using Computer Networking (advantages)? And also explain the disadvantages. Advantages: Files or Resources sharing. Save money on software and other programs. Increased cost efficiency. Increase storage capacity.

Disadvantages: Security Issues. Expensive to set up. Rapid spread of virus in computer. Dependency on the main File server.

Explain what is Peer to Peer and Server Based (Client Server) network. Peer to Peer. It is a network connection without using an access point. They are equally privileged, equipotent in the application and make a portion of resources. This Peer to Peer software, users can copy files directly from one computer. It could be a single, whole folder or even entire hard drive.

A Server. It is a network connection with access point which communicates over a computer network on a separate hardware. A server machine is a host that is running one or more server programs that share their resources with clients. Generally, servers are higher performance systems and optimized to provide network services to other computers.

Explain briefly 5 different services used in computer network. Local Area Network (LAN). The computers are geographically close together. Usually used by small organizations. Connectionless Service. This is like postal system. In order to use this service, no connection establishment is required. The packet reaches the correct destination by using the address in the packet. File and Printer Sharing. Users on a network can easily share files, printers and storage devices. File can be shared between users and computers much more conveniently without having to transfer files using disks or removable drives. Telecommuting. Many users are interested in connecting their work laptop/PC to the internet allowing them to work from home. Personal Area Network (PAN). A network contained within a users home that connects a persons digital device.

What do we need if we want to set up small LAN? IP Addresses. Cables. Ethernet Adapter. Adapter Cards. Ethernet Hub. More than one Personal Computer. Internet connection.

Lists down network topology. Explain the advantage and disadvantages. Bus Topology. Advantages: Easy to connect a computer or peripheral to a linear bus. Requires less cable length than a star topology. Disadvantages: Difficult to identify the problem if the entire network shuts down. Not meant to be used as a stand-alone solution in a large building.

Star topology Advantages: More suited for larger networks. Easy to expand network. Easy to troubleshoot. Cabling types can be mixed. Disadvantages: Hubs become a single point of network failure, not the cabling. Cabling more expensive due to home run needed for every device. Tree Topology Advantages: Point to point wiring for individual segments. Supported by several hardware and software venders. Disadvantages: If the backbone line breaks, the entire segment goes down. More difficult to configure and wire than other topologies. Mesh Topology Advantages: Arrangement of the network nodes is such that it is possible to transmit data from one node to many other nodes at the same time. Disadvantages: Arrangement wherein every network node is connected to every other node of the networks. Ring Topology Advantages: Very orderly network where every device has access to the token and the opportunity to transmit. Can create much larger network using Ring. Disadvantages: Slower than an Ethernet network under normal load One malfunctioning workstation or bad port in the MAU can create problems for the entire network

What media and connector used in BUS, STAR and RING Topology? RJ-11 and RJ-45.

What do meant by attenuation? How to reduce these effects? It is a reduction of signal strength during transmission and affects the propagation of waves and signals. To reduce these effects, most networks require repeaters at regular intervals.

What is Simples, Half and Full Duplex? Simplex. It is one way of communication and often used because it is not possible to send back error or control signals to the transmit end. Half Duplex. It is two way communications, one direction at a time lane ridge where two way traffics must give way in order to cross. Only one end transmits at a time, the other end receives.

Full Duplex. Two way simultaneous communications. Fiber optic have two connectors on each port, one for each lane of a two land roadway. Full Duplex fiber is two cables bundled or tried together to form the two lane roadway.
