There are 36 million MSMEs and any intervention seems small and insignificant, he said, adding there is a need to look at a mechanism of partnership to reach these enterprises and scale them to global level. The eco-systems need to be corrected he said speaking at the launch of the India Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Report 2013, brought out by the Institute

Agreeing with him Mr. Vijay Kalantri, President of the All India Association of Industries spoke of the number of taxes and permissions etc., that the MSMEs were subjected to. Later in a list he gave, it was revealed that there were 60 officers/inspectors authorized to visit factories and offices of companies and as regards taxes, they had to pay around 16 different taxes to the local government, about 20 different taxes to the State government and 28 different taxes to the Central government. By month-end, Walmart is likely to announce its decision to pull out $100million (` 455 Crore in 2010) investment made in a Bharti Group company Cedar Support Services for which it is facing a government probe for breaking rules.
