Hymn of Praise
Acceptable to Thee
Let the words of my mouth And the meditations of my heart Be acceptable, in thy sight Let the words of my mouth And the meditations of my heart Be acceptable, Lord to Thee. Here I am Lord, at your feet, Lord, My soul looks up to Thee, Make my thoughts, Lord, And my tongue, Lord Acceptable to Thee.

Unison Scriptures
7:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

PSALM 37:23-24 (NIV)

The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; 24though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand.
23

MARK 5:1-9 (NIV)

They went across the lake to the region of the Gerasenes. 2When Jesus got out of the boat, a man with an impure spirit came from the tombs to meet him. 3This man lived in the tombs, and no one could bind him anymore, not even with a chain. 4For he had often been chained hand and foot, but he tore the chains apart and broke the irons on his feet. No one was strong enough to subdue him. 5Night and day among the tombs and in the hills he would cry out and cut himself with stones.
1

Men's Day!

When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell on his knees in front of him. 7He shouted at the top of his voice, What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? In Gods name dont torture me! 8For Jesus had said to him, Come out of this man, you impure spirit! 9Then Jesus asked him, What is your name? My name is Legion, he replied, for we are many.

Guest Preacher
Rev. Al Sharpton is the founder and President of
the National Action Network (NAN), a not-for-profit civil rights organization headquartered in Harlem, New York, with over 47 Chapters nationwide. Born on October 3, 1954 in Brooklyn, New York, Rev. Sharpton began his ministry at the tender age of four, preaching his first sermon at Washington Temple Church of God in Christ in Brooklyn. Just five years later, the Washington Temple churchs legendary Bishop F.D. Washington licensed Al Sharpton, his protg, to be a Pentecostal minister. Rev. Sharpton was educated in New York public schools and attended Brooklyn College. He has an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity from Bethune-Cookman University and an honorary degree from A.P. Bible College.
GUEST PREACHER

Rev. Sharptons civil rights career began almost as early as his ministry. At thirteen, Revs. Jesse Jackson and William Jones appointed Sharpton youth director of New Yorks SCLC Operation Breadbasket, an organization founded by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in 1971. At the age of sixteen, Sharpton founded the National Youth Movement, Inc. which organized young people around the country to push for increased voter registration, cultural awareness, and job training programs. It was at that time that he forged a friendship with Teddy Brown, the son of the Godfather of Soul James Brown. Tragically, Teddy was killed in a car accident and, in the months that followed his passing, James Brown took Rev. Sharpton in as though he was his own and they developed an inexplicable bond. Rev. Sharpton was shaped by his surrogate father, Mr. Brown, who taught him, You cant set your sights on nothing little; you got to go for the whole hog. Rev. Sharpton is the host of MSNBC's PoliticsNation. He also hosts a nationally syndicated radio show Keepin it Real, and two local New York radio shows. Rev. Sharpton says his religious convictions are the basis for his life and on most Sundays he preaches to congregations across the nation. Rev. Sharpton has two daughters from his marriage to Kathy Jordan Sharpton, Dominique and Ashley.

Guest Preacher
Trinity United Church of Christ-Gary, is dedicated to the cause of Jesus Christ to serve this present age. Pastor Jackson, with the powerful help of Jesus Christ, has taken Trinity UCC-Gary from a church with no members, no money, and no building, to a rapidly growing church with its own building, and looking to expand. Rev. Jackson is a graduate of Loyola University Chicago, and earned a Master of Divinity from McCormick Theological Seminary. He is currently working toward a Doctor of Ministry from United Theological Seminary. Rev. Jackson holds sacred both arms of the Cross; the vertical arm allows us to connect with heaven for the holy power to carry out the work of liberation on the horizontal. He believes that the Church of Jesus Christ should be the one place in life where anybody can come with any problem they have and get an answer to that problem. He works tirelessly in the Gary community, seeking collaborations with the global community to be a voice for the voiceless and bring justice to the oppressed. Rev. Jackson is married to Janiece Nadine Jackson, and they are the parents of Derrick L. Jackson, John E. Jackson, Jr., and Laniece N. Jackson.

Praise God!

In addition to our continued progress toward our pledge goal, our focused efforts the past two Sundays to encourage our congregation to Opt-in to our Raise the Roof campaign, we have now achieved nearly 50% of our goal of 4,000 opt-in participants. Opting in is critical to ensuring you receive relevant updates throughout the campaign. Our Ushers will be providing you with Opt-In cards again this Sunday. If you havent already opted-in, please fill out this card and turn it in to an usher or at one of the Raise the Roof tables in the Narthex following service, and you will be given the Raise the Roof campaign booklet. In the materials you receive you will find more information on Raise the Roof, as well as a pledge card and envelope. Once you have made your pledge decision, complete the card and return it to Trinity UCC Accounting (remember to take advantage of Automatic Giving/ACS to be sure your pledges are consistently applied). OCTOBER IS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH
What is domestic violence? Domestic violence is the willful intimidation, physical assault, battery, sexual assault, and/or other abusive behavior perpetrated by an intimate partner against another. It is considered one of the most pressing issues in American society; an epidemic affecting individuals in every community, regardless of age, economic status, race, religion, nationality or educational background. Violence against women is often accompanied by emotionally abusive and controlling behavior.

Did you know One in every four women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime Men, as well as women, are victimized by violence. One in every fourteen men has been physically assaulted by a current or former spouse, cohabitating partner, boyfriend/ girlfriend or date at some point in his life Females who are 20-24 years of age are at the greatest risk of non-fatal intimate partner violence Boys who witness domestic violence are twice as likely to abuse their own partners and children when they become adults Most cases of domestic violence are never reported to the police; only approximately one-quarter of all physical assaults, one-fifth of all rapes, and one-half of all stalking perpetrated against females by intimate partners are reported to the police. What to do? If you or someone you know is a victim of domestic violence, get help immediately your life depends on it! A City-wide Mammogram Screening Initiative

Presented by Metropolitan Chicago Breast Cancer Task Force, and the Trinity UCC Can-Cer-Vive Ministry Hosted by Mrs. Monica Moss

BEYOND OCTOBER

Thursday, October 31, 2013 10:00 a.m. 1:00 p.m. Atrium

Beyond October is a city wide initiative that aims to emphasize the importance of mammograms beyond breast cancer month and will help to ease waitlists by providing 800 free mammograms to uninsured women in Chicago. The Illinois program that provides free mammogram screenings to uninsured women does not have enough money to cover services for even 10% of those who need them. This leads to long waitlists and fewer women receiving mammograms, thereby increasing the amount of uninsured women in the city of Chicago walking among us with the possibility of having undiagnosed breast cancer. Their chance of survival decreases the longer these women go without a mammogram screening. The Task Force will continue to register women for free mammograms until the end of the year or until all free mammograms have been depleted. To sign up for your FREE mammogram at the kickoff event, visit www.chicagobreastcancer.org, or call 312-942-3368.
