THE 8th FESTIVAL EDITION OF THE WEEK FOR THE INFANT & CHILD May 17th 2014 Teatro

Im writing this massage as the Head of the Pediatric Department of the San Paolo Hospital in the city of Savona, Italy. Since 2008 we have been organizing activities and musical events for fund raising in order to satisfy the needs of our young patients and of their families. We, in concert with the CRESCI Association (a non-profit association of parents who are devoting their time for our children), are investing in projects that have the slogan of taking care of the child and its family instead of only curing their disease. In practice, that means, introducing colors, sounds and humanity to our Pediatric ward. Therefore were very active in guaranteeing indoor activities such as clown therapy (all days from Monday to Friday), Educators and school in the Hospital (all days from Monday to Friday), the presence of a psychologist and Infantile Neuropsychiatries in the department for 3-4 days a week, covering travel and hotel expenses for families who come for therapy from distant places and who cannot afford the coverage of travel and hotel expenses (30% of our patients come to our hospital from other regions in Italy since we are the Inter Regional Centre for the Diagnosis and Cure of Rare-Diseases and we are also specialists for endocrinological late complications in children who had bone marrow transplantation). We are also working with the local schools educating children in mid and high school to perform basic-life support in cases of emergency. In the last 4 years we were able to reach more than 5000 (five thousand) pupils that are able today to take part of a cardiopulmonary resuscitation in any place (street, school, house, training room etc) while waiting for the arrival of the ambulance. In this project we have also distributed 20 semiautomatic defibrillators to 20 schools. As you can imagine, we are very proud of the results we are achieving for our children.

In order to raise funds for these projects (as you can imagine, it is becoming very hard to achieve funds from institutions because of the complex economical period in Europe and particularly in Italy) we have decides some years ago to create a band (nominated Babilonia Ethnic Band) that will organize two performances a year for fund raising. In order to be an active part of this effort and to provide a self-model, Im also making part of the group as guitar player. Up to date, we had performances with important Italian artists such as Mariella Nava, Shel Shapiro, Irene Fornaciari, Roberto Tiranti, Jacopo Sarno, Paolo Jannacci and others. These names might not evoke any impression in you but I can assure you that they are famous and well-known artists in Italy. This year we are going to repeat this adventure of a new show in the Chiabrera Theatre in Savona, during the VIII settimana dellInfanzia (the 8th Edition of the week for the infant & child). This charming theatre was built in 1853 (link Gabriello Chiabrera) and has about 600-700 seats. http://www.teatrochiabrera.it I was wondering if you would like to participate and contribute to the success of the 2014 event scheduled in May 17th as our special guest. We also have the possibility to involve the Savona Symphonic Orchestra and the choir of children from the Music School of Savona (50-100 voices). I think that a little performance with you will be gorgeous. In case you agree to participate in the event and if you think appropriately, the Babilonia Ethnic Band will be more than happy to prepare the instrumental part of the songs you would like to do in Savona. In this case, we will need a link to the MP3 and/or registration of the music you are going to choose. The main objective of the show is fund raising for the Pediatric Department in Savona. This is why we will not be able to cover the habitual fee your agency usually charges. We will obviously cover all your expenses (travel, hotel, restaurant), and we will be more than happy to take you around and to show you our area.
