WHO WE ARE WORK AREAS CURRENT INITIATIVES

Founded in 1992, Mukono Multi-purpose Youth
Organisation (MUMYO) is a Ugandan NGO dedicated to
various issues aimed at promoting the rights and well being
of the young men and women, and alleviation of extreme
poverty especially in the rural areas. MUMYO ‘s mission is
to promote unity, human rights and skills development
among the young men and women of Uganda, in literacy,
agriculture and entrepreneurship through training,
advocacy and information sharing for self-reliance.
It is incorporated and registered with the Uganda National
NGO Board, under the certificate No. S. 5914/1116.
Vision: A world where all the youth are literate, healthy
and responsible members of the society
Since its formation, the organization has been actively Child Advocacy and Support
involved in a number of activities in the area of;
Education
Education is an indispensable prerequisite for the
promotion of sustainable and fair development, as set out
in Agenda 21 at the United Nations Conference on
Environment and Development, Rio de Janeiro, 1992.
Education is a fundamental right, it is a key to sustainable
development, peace and stability and an indispensable
means for effective participation of people in social and
economic development. The organization aims to promote
increased access to education and employment
opportunities among the underprivileged youth and
children, especially in the rural areas

. Overall Objectives Health  Raising awareness through advocacy and social

a) To develop and strengthen youth programmes for
self-employment through micro-enterprise schemes
support for self-reliance.
b) To promote appropriate functional literacy,
vocational and apprenticeship schemes for youth
out of school and youth with disabilities for
improved living standards.
c) To advocate for increased access to and quality
education, both formal and non-formal, girl child
education and retention and career guidance
d) To build the abilities of young people to participate
in development and decision-making process
through seminars, workshops, youth camps and
other fora.
e) To initiate and implement projects geared towards
hunger and poverty alleviation, improved health
care, and environmental protection for sustainable
development
Health is a fundamental human right and a social goal
worldwide. The young people need to provided with an
environment with minimum health risks and get access to
health care services that are sensitive and relevant to their
particular ranging health and development needs
Sustainable Rural Development
The young men and women are vital in the sustainable
development of the communities they live in. However,
their efforts have underscored numerous obstacles to their
active participation including poverty and its consequences,
cultural norms and constraints, youth in crisis, such as,
drug addiction, family violence and psychological problems
as a result of environmental resources, and social strifes.
There is need to target the youth in rural development
efforts to stay as rural development partners rather
than resorting to rural-urban migration
mobilization to create a supportive environment for
the orphans and vulnerable.
 Ensuring access for the orphans and vulnerable
children to essential services including education,
health care, food and nutrition
 Supporting mitigation programmes, such as,
orphanages, for orphans and vulnerable children
 Strengthening the capacity of families to care for
the orphans and vulnerable children through
economic, psychosocial and other support
HIV/AIDS Awareness / Counseling Services
MUMYO aims at enhancing prevention, mitigation and
management of HIV/AIDS and other sexually
transmitted infections among the youth and adults by;
 Providing counseling services to people infected
and affected by HIV/AIDS
 Supporting Information, Education and
Communication (IEC) for behaviour change MUKONO MULTI-PURPOSE

Investing in young people for

Agriculture and Food Security

MUMYO helps farmers in overcoming their production

constraints on a sustainable basis through:
 Training in organic farming, agro forestry for
sustainable food productivity and poverty alleviation.
 Increased access to improved farm inputs, crops
and animals, technology and market related
information.
MUMYO is a member of the Uganda Water and
Sanitation NGO Network (UWASNET) and the Clean
Up the World, Australia.
Every year the organization mobilizes volunteers,
including local leaders, school children, the community
members to participate in the clean up the world
campaigns

 Farmers institutional development to enable

farmers get access to agricultural advisory services,
under the Uganda National Agricultural Advisory
Services (NAADS) Programme.
