First Assignment This assignment is to get used to using formulas and the instructions. Create a Times Table.

In Cell C1 type the words Multiplication Table. In Cell A3 type the word Number. In Cell C3 type the number 10. In Cell A4 type = then click on Cell C3. You just made a formula.

You should see =C3 in the box at the top of the screen. Go in and type a $ before both the C and the 3, so that it looks like =$C$3. The Dollar signs mean that you want to keep that part of the formula the same if you copy it. If you dont have the $ then a respective relationship will occur. For example if we had copied the formula down without the dollar sign, then in cell A5 it would have the formula =C4. If I copied to the right then in B4 the formula would change to =D3. Note: Every formula will always start with an equals sign.

In Cell B4 type a * (multiplication sign) In Cell C4 through C13 type the numbers 1 through 10 Select the Cells A4 through B13, in that order, by clicking and dragging the mouse. With the cells highlighted go to Edit on the Menu Bar and click on it. Roll the mouse over the word F ill and the over the word Down and Click on it. The cells below the top two cells should have exactly the same thing. I will refer to this as the Fill Down method. Click in Cell D4. Type = click on Cell A4 then type * and click on cell C4. Press Enter. Thus the formula should look like this: =A4*C4. Note: You can put a cell name in the formula by clicking on it or typing it. Do the Fill Down method for the formula in cells D4 through D13. The multiplication table for 10 should be seen. Now change the number in the cell C3 to another number like 8. Hit enter. The numbers in the Columns A, C, and D should have changed. Save the spreadsheet as Calculations tables.

Second Assignment This assignment is to show how to have more than one worksheet in a spreadsheet file. Open the Spreadsheet Calculations. At the bottom of the page click on the tab that says Sheet 2. This creates a new sheet to work in. The whole file is actually going to be named Calculations. You can have several sheets in a workbook. This will come in handy for businesses. Note: If you dont have a worksheet at the bottom, you can go up to Insert and click on Worksheet. It will add one as well.

You are going to create a sheet that converts Fahrenheit into Celsius and vise versa. The formula for Celsius is C = 5/9*(F 32). The Formula for Fahrenheit is F = (9/5)*C + 32. First make a multiplication.

In Cell C1, type Fahrenheit. In Cell C2, type a number for a degree. 32 degrees is a good test. In Cell D1, type the word Celsius. In Cell D2, type the formula for Celsius. Remember to start with an = sign. Remember also, that there should be cell names in the formula not variables. Test the calculation on a calculator. If you used 32 degrees it should be 0 for Celsius. Make a second row that converts Celsius into Fahrenheit. Format the cells to have only two decimal places by the following.

Highlight the cells the numbers.

Go to Format. Click on the word Cell. You should see the box to the left. Click on Number and make sure a 2 is in the box for Decimal places: Hit OK. To print off this worksheet, go to print and then in the Print box make sure it has Active Worksheet selected in the Print What sections

Third AssignmentThis assignment is to see if you can create formulas using the formula button and making a chart with chart wizard. The Fast Car Club is testing different sports cars and storing the results in the spreadsheet.

You are to create a spreadsheet just like the one below.

Speed Test

Car

Distance (feet)

Time (Seconds) 7.68

Pauls Porsche 123.5 Franks Ferrari Amys Martin Aston150

145.7

7.77

7.90

Carlas Corvette

156.3

6.50 5.34

Jasons Jaguar 124

Sarahs Supra 137 7.09 In cell right of the one with Time (seconds) type Speed (feet/sec.) Speed is calculated by dividing distance traveled by time. Write a formula in the cell below the one you just created to calculate the speed. Dont forget to start the formula with an =. Use the Fill Down command to fill in the rest of the column. In the cell that is two below that of the last Time type the words Average Speed. You want to find the average speed. Click in the cell to the right of the cell that you were and under Speed (feet/sec).

Click on the fx button at the top next to the text box.

You should get a formula box.

Find the word Average. Highlight it and click OK

You should get this box:

Click Ok. You should get your calculation.

Now we need to edit the cells so they round off to two decimal places.

Highlight the cells in the column with Speed that has the numbers. Format the cells to two decimal places. Add a chart to compare speeds by following the next step. Select cells from Cars to Speed and down to the row with Sarahs Supra.

o o o

Click on Chart wizard icon. Select the column graph. Hit next In the next screen. Click on the Tab that says Series.

o o o

Click on the Distance and click on Remove button. Do the same for Time. Then click next. Click Finish.

This sets up a chart with the car names and just comparing their speed.

Place the chart below the information. Click on Print under the File menu and go to Page Setup. Click on the button that says Landscape. This will print the spreadsheet along the length of the page. Go to Tools and click on Spelling. Check your spreadsheet. Save it as Speed.
