INFERNO
COMPLETELY FIREPROOF PAINT
Inferno is a new state of the art fire
retardant paint using proprietary cutting
edge intumescent fire retardants, fire
resistance and mold inhibiting
technology. This product has been highly
tested and has passed numerous tests
from nationally certified laboratories and
testing facilities. It has been proven by
laboratory tests to have the ability to
help prevent vertical flame spread,
flashover and to help prevent fire Inferno Fireproof Paint gets tested Hollywood style

penetrations of a wall assembly for up to
two hours!! Inferno has zero mold growth. Simply paint Inferno on the interior of your home or
building. This will create unsurpassed fire and mold protection. When Inferno is exposed to high
temperatures or direct flame there is an "Intumescent reaction." Simply stated, Inferno expands,
caramelizes and forms a "char barrier" that lifts off the surface of the material. In so doing,
Inferno offers an effective and durable barrier that cuts off the fuel source that fire needs to
develop.

Inferno is a water based Acrylic paint, which is non-toxic, non-hazardous, has no smell, looks
and is applied like standard house paint. It will give you fire rating depending upon surface type,
non fire rated drywall, different wood types (including manufactured boards and plywood), and
will even protect foam products.

Inferno can be applied as either a primer or finish coat over existing painted or unpainted
surfaces with superior adhesion; it will withstand temperatures up to 1900º. In a fully painted
room with doors closed it will contain the fire to that room until the fire dies from lack of
combustible material. If door edges are painted the heated paint swells to seal the door and hot
gases cannot escape. In open rooms or buildings it will assist in the retardation of the flame
spread into ceiling spaces or danger areas thus vastly increasing the time for the fire department
to attend. In a bush fire scenario it will repel the heat and flames generated by the burning 1
foliage. In a boat or caravan it will contain the fire to localized areas thus noticeably increasing
the chance of the fire being successfully fought and lives being saved.

• UL-723 - Class A Flame Spread & Smoke Production.

• ASTM E 84 - Class A Flame Spread & Smoke Production.
• UBC-26-2 - Thermal Barrier.
• NFPA-286 - Contribution to Room Combustibility.
• ASTM E 119 - the standard time-temperature curve based on post flashover conditions. The
test measures the ability of wall and partition systems, floor ceiling and roof ceiling systems to
stop flame or hot gases, penetrating thru the assembly.

Surface Preparation: All surfaces to be painted must be clean, cured, firm, dry and free
of dust, dirt, oil, wax, grease, mildew, efflorescence, loose flaking paint, etc. Glossy surfaces
should be dulled by sanding. Patch nail holes, cracks, blemishes etc., with appropriate patching
compounds and sand smooth. For best results rough, irregular surfaces should be sand feathered.
Remember, the quality of any paint job is only as good as the surface preparation that precedes
the paint application. While our product has excellent bonding characteristics, even the best
coatings will fail to bond over time, if sub-surfaces are inadequately prepared.

Priming:

• New Work: While Inferno may be used as the primer on many surfaces such as wood and
sheetrock for best results it is recommended that all new work is primed with standard primers
designed for each surface and our coating be applied as an intermediate coat before top coating.
Ask your paint dealer for recommendations of appropriate primers for each substrate.

• Repaint Work: This coating has excellent bonding characteristics and will adhere to most
sound, clean, matte surfaces. If the surfaces are suitable for ordinary house or wall paints to
adhere to, then they are suitable for our coating. Hard glossy surfaces should always be sanded
for best adhesion. If the previous paint was an oil-based coating, always sand and prime with a
suitable oil-based primer, or specialty acrylic bonding primer, before proceeding with this
coating contact your local paint dealer and they can recommend an appropriate primer. If in
doubt, feel free to contact our office for further assistance.

• Mildew: should be removed by scrubbing with a 25% solution of household bleach water. Tri-
sodium phosphate (TSP) or common laundry powder such as Tide may be added to solution to
3
assist removal. Always rinse with clear water.

• Efflorescence: is a white powdery alkaline crystal growth sometimes found on plaster or

masonry walls. It is a condition caused by excessive moisture in the walls forcing alkaline salts
to the surface of the wall. Efflorescence must be removed and neutralized with an acidic solution
(white vinegar works well).

• Caution: The presence of efflorescence indicates that a moisture problem has occurred behind
the wall at some point in time. If the source of excessive moisture is not corrected, the
efflorescence will return and push any coating, including this one, off the wall.

Material Preparation:

• Inferno Fireproof Paint must be thoroughly mixed before application. Failure to do so will
seriously compromise the coating ability to perform. We recommend mechanical stirring with a
high speed drill and a paddle appropriate for the size container you are working from. Contents
should be stirred from the bottom up, making sure to scrape the bottom and sides with a paint
stick as you go. Contents should be stirred to a creamy consistency with no lumps. Thinning is
usually not needed or recommended.

• Inferno is a water based product and slight thinning will not hurt the product, however, thinning
increases the likelihood of not applying the proper thickness of paint thus diminishing the
products fire proofing ability. Ultimately, it is your responsibility to make sure that the proper
thickness of material has been applied so this product can do its job. Except for tinting with
universal paint tint, never mix this product with other materials. Helpful suggestion (When
applying two coats of Inferno slight tinting of first or second coat will assist in making sure all
surfaces are re coated).

Wet Mil and Dry Mil:

During Application, the wet film thickness should be checked using a wet film thickness gauge.
To use the gauge insert the teeth into the Inferno wet base coat, the last tooth to be coated
indicates the thickness achieved. This is very important so you can achieve the required dry film
thickness (DFT) of the specific assembly. During the drying process, Inferno will shrink due to
evaporation.

anchor pattern, film thickness, variance, loss, overspray, and incomplete usage. The following
factors have been found in actual use to be reasonable estimates of the loss factors which can be
expected:

• Brush Application .............3-5%

• Roller Application .............3-6%
• Spray Application .............8-10%

WHAT IS THE HOUR RATING?

ASTM E119 This test is the standard time-temperature curve based on post flashover conditions.
The test measures the ability of wall and partition systems, floor ceiling and roof ceiling systems
to stop flame or hot gases, penetrating thru the assembly. Assemblies are tested under time (1
hour or more) and temperature (1800°F or more) conditions. Assemblies are tested under loaded
and non-loaded conditions.

The test is conducted as follows: The wall or ceiling assembly is placed either vertically or
horizontally on one side of an oven. Thermocouples (temperature recorders) are placed on the
exterior side of the assembly, to record temperatures passing thru the wall and ceiling
assemblies. On the opposite side, there are 24 gas flames that can reach over 2,000 degrees and
will blast away at the assembly for up to two hours or more. These flames are thrown at the wall
trying to incinerate the entire wall. In almost all cases an unprotected wall will collapse. What 5
makes Inferno so impressive is that this coating reflects the heat away from the wall so much that
the temperature of the wall remains in a safe range thus the wall or ceiling is kept structurally
intact. Inferno testing is always conducted in real world conditions.

FAQ's
Q. Do a couple of minutes really make that much of a difference?
A. A typical fire doubles in size every 30 seconds. Using those figures, in 5 minutes, a small
trash can fire will grow to over a 1000 square feet. Needless to say, time is of the essence.

Time 0:00 0:30 1:00 1:30 2:00 2:30 3:00 3:30 4:00 4:30 5:00

Q. Do you guarantee Fireproof Paint won't burn?

A. Very few things in this world are guaranteed 100%. Fireproof Paint is no different. Although
we have not yet found one problem, there are probably situations where items treated with this
product will burn, but the odds are greatly reduced, when compared to non-treated items.

Q. Is Fireproof Paint harmful, allergenic, carcinogenic or toxic?

A. No. It has no harmful side effects and releases no toxins even after having been exposed to
fire. Fireproof Paint is Hypoallergenic, Non-Carcinogenic and has little to no smell. Most people
7
can comfortably sleep in a room treated with this product the same day it was applied.

Q. Do I have to paint my whole house to be protected against fire?

HARD Lifestyle | www.hardlifestyle.com

A. That would offer the maximum protection. We suggest that as a minimum you paint your
Bedrooms, Kitchens, Garages, Laundry areas and anywhere you have many electrical products
plugged into one or two outlets, like a home office or home theater center. These areas are where
most fires start. If a fire starts in another room, when the fire reaches the area where Fireproof
Paint has been applied in most cases the fire will stop there. Does Fireproof Paint work on fires
caused by accelerants such as gas, oil, or the things I keep in my garage? The results of fires
caused by petroleum accelerants are usually the same as with non-accelerated fires. The fire just
burns faster and hotter until the accelerant burns off. This product offers the same protection
regardless of the fuel source of the fire.

Q. Do I need any special tools to apply Fireproof Paint?

A. No. It is as easy to apply as any other paint, with a brush, roller or sprayer. For the best
results, spraying is recommended method. We suggest waiting 24 hours to apply a color coat.

Q. What surfaces or materials can I use Fireproof Paint on?

A. You can apply this product to the interior of your home, buildings or other structures
including Fences, Dog Houses, Ceilings, Wood Furniture, Cabinets, Tool Sheds, Barns and
Stables. This product adheres to wood, drywall, concrete, sheetrock, paneling or virtually any
porous surface, including OSB.

Q. How long does the Paint continue to protect?

A. Warranted for 15 years on your Interior of homes and offices under normal wear and tear.

Q. Can I use Fireproof Paint over existing paint?

A. Yes. It's important, however, that the surfaces being treated are completely clean, dry, any
cracked paint or flakes are sanded down, and the surface is free from oil residue. When painting
on raw wood or drywall, we suggest you first prime the surface with any standard white paint
primer.

Q. What colors are available?

A. Fireproof Paint only comes in “White”. For optional color or sheen to surfaces, Inferno may
be top coated with virtually any Acrylic or enamel paint after dry time. Roll or spray initial top
coat. DO NOT RE-ROLL OR TOUCH UP until top coat is completely dry or top coat may
smear or stick to roller. TOP COATING DOES NOT REDUCE FIRE RETARDANT OR
RESISTANCE CAPABILITY.
8
Q. Is Fireproof Paint expensive?
A. Typically a gallon covers approximately 200 square feet. A typical 10’x12’ bedroom is
approximately 500 square feet to cover the ceiling, doors and door jams, base boards, and inside

the closets so you use under 2.5 gallons of Fireproof Paint. You have provided your family with
around the clock additional protection from smoke and fire. No product you can buy for your
home can offer you this type of protection. Isn’t your family’s safety worth it?

Q. Has Fireproof Paint been tested and approved?

A. YES. Inferno has passed and been approved:

• UL 723 Listed (Underwriters Laboratory)

• ASTM E 84-05 meets UL 723 ( Underwriters Laboratory )
• NFPA 286 meets UL 1715 ( Underwriters Laboratory )
