What is Fx?
Fx is a discipleship group for preteens (4th -6th graders). We go beyond pew-sitting by
serving the church, the community and the world.

Here am I and the children the Lord has given me. We are signs and symbols on Israel
from the Lord Almighty, Who dwells on Mount Zion. -Isaiah 8:18

You have taught children and nursing infants to give you praise. They silence your
enemies who are seeking revenge. -Psalm 8:2

...giving children opportunities to serve and lead other children during our Sunday services.

…providing service opportunities in our community.

…practicing the spiritual disciplines of prayer, reading scripture and fasting (not from food, but
extraneous activities such as TV and video games).

…involving in our activities, older students and adults who set examples of godliness and excellence.

Why Fx ?
We want to show Christ’s effects on us by loving, leading and serving others like He does.
We believe that living like Jesus should not begin at adulthood, but at a young age.

The student is not greater than the teacher, but the student who works hard will become
like the teacher. -Luke 6:40

What will my preteen be doing?

…

Being part of the Shine worship team

Learning the words and motions to all of the worship songs that we use
Regularly attending rehearsals (summer-Tuesdays, 12-2pm, school year-Wednesdays, 4:30-6pm)
Setting an example to the younger kids by engaging in passionate praise and worship

Being an assistant small group leader in preschool-second grade classes

Helping an adult small group leader on Sunday mornings by gathering supplies, handing things out
and organizing games
Praying for and spending time with kids in their small group

Assisting on the host team

Taking attendance
Collecting Tithes and Offerings during the service
Helping kids fill out name tags
Handing out visitor packets
Handing out birthday bags

Every Tuesday, participating in The Salvation Army’s “Brown Bag” program to fill lunch bags with
food for at-risk families in our community
Prayer-walking in our neighborhood
Door-to-door advertising for Church and Awana events
Other opportunities as they come up (…your creative ideas here)

The weekly Fx report will include the following and is due every Wednesday by 9pm
Time spent in prayer during the week
Time spent reading the scriptures
One thing that I gave up (fasted from) in order to spend time with God in prayer and the
scriptures, i.e. TV or video games
An “Fx” story (how Christ’s effects have been shown in my life, i.e. how I treated my family, how I
shared the gospel with my neighbors, how I prayed for my president)
A few other questions; “Did I honor my parents?”, “Did I love and honor God above everything
else?”, “Did I treat others as I want to be treated?”

How do I get my preteen signed up?

Then what?

Here are some things you may be doing when you get involved
Putting birthday bags together
Putting visitor packets together
Helping to keep the Children’s ministry supply room stocked by doing supply drives
Helping to keep the supply room organized and accessible
Assisting/leading outreaches
Praying and fasting for the preteens at Lighthouse Christian Church
