Marcellus & Utica Shale Gas Potential in New York State

Wed. Oct. 30th 7 9pm Hollister Hall Auditorium Room B-14 4 Central Ave., Cornell University Ithaca, NY
How much shale gas could be produced in New York State?
Ever since 2008, when the gas industry began drilling explora;on wells in the Marcellus and U;ca shale, landowners, elected ocials, concerned ci;zens, and planners have been wondering, how much gas is there?

Lou Allstadt and Chip Northrup, analysts of drilling technologies and the economics of the gas industry, along with Jerry Acton, a systems engineer, and geologist Brian Brock, will give a free presenta;on on assessing the poten;al for shale gas drilling in New York State.

Cosponsored by: Tompkins County Council of Governments; Cornell Coopera8ve Extension of Tompkins County; Tompkins County League of Women Voters; Cornell Sustainability Hub; Sustainability at Ithaca College; Ithaca First Presbyterian CommiFee on Jus8ce; Peace and Integrity of Crea8on; FracTracker Alliance.

Having studied 5 years of shale gas produc;on records from Pennsylvania and test wells in N.Y., they have compiled enough informa;on from public and industry sources to condently address where the Marcellus and U;ca could be produc;ve for drilling in New York, given current technology and economic condi;ons. And just as importantly, they predict where it is unlikely to be economically produc;ve.
