President of Bade Ghulam Ali khan Memorial Society he is promoting music as
well working for the humanity.
Art is the only true reflection of a society, his ideologies and his beliefs. When we
organized the first Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan Music Conference in 2006, we
wanted the classical and light classical vocal music scene to serve as cultural
barometer for the visiting delegates showing them the vibrant and artistically rich
face of our country often ignored by the international media. With the successful
completion of that music conference we knew we had established a vital platform
for cultural exchange, but little did we imagine the music conference would grow
in such leaps and bounds and three years later become the biggest show case of the
performing arts in Pakistan. Festivals particularly those with the cosmopolitan
outlook such as the Bade Ghulam Ali Khan music festivals are vital for the
development of society. They open people’s minds to the importance of the arts
and expose the general population to performances they would otherwise not be
able to reach. In an artificially insular country like Pakistan where few people have
access to local creative output, Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan Memorial Society
provides a window to the world of music and an opportunity for our people to be
inspired by a multitude of cultural influences from outside
