The tax deadline is looming

By the time you receive this newsletter, there will be approximately eight weeks left until the new Hungarian Social Security tax goes into effect. Starting January 1, 2014, all non-European Union residents will be responsible to pay Social Security tax to the Hungarian government. This includes foreigners who are big-time executives, business owners, and all missionaries. Unfortunately, the news gets even worse not only are we responsible to pay both sides of the Social Security tax in Hungary, but we are also obligated to pay Social Security in the United States because there is no Totalization Agreement between our two countries. Starting January 1st, our tax situation will be the following: US SS Tax (both employer and employee): 12.4% Hungarian SS tax (both employer and employee): 38% + Hungarian income tax: 16% Total Taxes: 66.4% Pretty overwhelming, isnt it? We have known about this upcoming tax situation for approximately 18 months now, and we have done our best to communicate this financial need with churches and individuals. The Lord has been faithful to provide us with new support from several generous resources. However, we are still $1,500 short of our monthly need. You may ask, So what happens on January 1 if you dont raise an additional $1,500 a month? That is a good question, and honestly, we are just as curious as you are. Currently, we are in communication with our various Directors in Hungary and the US concerning the next steps with our monthly finances. The obvious answer is that we need to raise more support, but this simple answer comes with complicated consequences. We simply cannot drop everything in the middle of the Bible Institute school year and head to the United States in order to raise immediate support, yet we are obligated to pay these taxes in the meantime. Until the Lord supplies the additional support, we will make cuts to our monthly budget, including reductions in our personal salary, furlough fund, and field expense. Our next furlough is scheduled for the summer of 2014.
st

Will you please pray with us? Please pray specifically for the following:
1) 2) 3) 4) 5) Generous supporters who will join our team so we can continue serving the Lord in Hungary. Wisdom for our leaders at WOL as they decide what to do with us, financially speaking. Wisdom as we decide what cuts are possible to make to our personal budget. Gods providence as we plan our next furlough for the summer of 2014. Praise the Lord for this trial because we know that He is refining us through the fire to be more like HIM!
