Please tell us about your work experience to date.

What did you learn from this experience and how do you intend to apply this at Nestl? (max 1500 characters) My first work experience began as an Intern in the Oil and Gas industry. During that period, I was involved with writing procedures to perform basic Mechanical installation scope. I was also involved with the production of engineering drawings and occasionally performed pipeline leak tests. These tasks greatly equipped me with skills in writing reports and the ability to work under pressure. My technical aptitude was also greatly enhanced.. I also had a National service as an apprentice Field Engineer involved with assessment and certification of operating lease assets condition before deployment, Preparation of periodic status and field reports on asset performance. These tasks also help me hone my skills in report writing as well as the ability to supervise projects and meet deadlines. After my apprenticeship, I began a full-time work as a Mechanical Engineer for a period of 1 year. During that period, I was involved with engineering design of aboveground storage tanks with internal floating roof to API standards, Engineering design of Oil/ Water Separators (OWS) and utility systems for the recovery of petroleum at bulk petroleum storage facilities. I was able to develop competency in Project management, engaging with customer/ clients and team building. These experiences gained will be quite useful at Nestl since I will occasionally work in a team, interact with customers and will be required to make presentations in form of technical report to management.

What interests you about working in the food and beverage manufacturing industry and, more specifically, working for Nestl? (max 1500 characters) The food and beverage manufacturing industry is in my opinion, one of the largest industries since it provides indispensable products to consumers. This opens up unlimited opportunities for Nestl to touch the lives of millions through her high quality diverse food and beverage brands. This is a great motivating factor for me because being considered as part of an industry that meets the everyday needs of consumers is an opportunity that I have always sought after. It brings a great sense of responsibility knowing that the quality of service I render will be reflected in the lives of millions of consumers across the globe. Working for Nestl had always been my dream since I was a boy. Nestl is a company that is strategically diversified across all aspects of the food and beverage manufacturing industry and the worlds leading nutrition, health and wellness company. I have always enthused over working for a company where my contributions would be considered crucial to its success. Also, further research into Nestls diverse activities and Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability has reinforced this original impression of openness, energy, enthusiasm and motivation I have had about the company.

What would you consider to be the main environmental concerns that a company such as Nestl might be facing? How may an Engineering function address these concerns? (max 1500 characters)

The main environmental challenges that a food and beverage manufacturing company such as Nestl might be facing include environmental sustainability issues that bother down on: Production of tasty and nutritious food and beverages that also have the lowest environmental footprint, Optimization of the environmental performance of products, Control of air emissions, land contamination, noise and odour pollution, energy usage and waste disposal. These challenges could be addressed by the unification of several engineering functions like Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering in the design of machines with zero harmful emissions, design of cost effective and highly efficient systems for the treatment of effluents, development of industrial processes that minimise noise and odour pollution. Also, the development of biodegradable packaging materials to give a very low environmental footprint as well as the enhancement of recycling processes are ways by which engineering functions can can address these environmental concerns
