Q1You need the Workstation 7.0 installation software and the Serial number.

If you have the packaged distribution of Workstation, the installation software is on the installation media in your package. If you have the electronic distribution, the installation software is in the file you downloaded. Workstation is available for Windows and Linux host computers. The installation files for both host platforms are included in the packaged distribution. Install ation procedures depend on whether you are installing Workstation on a Windows o r Linux host. To install Workstation on a Window s host, first, log on to the host as the Admini strator user or as a user who is a member of the Windows Administrators group. T o install Workstation on a Windows XP or Windows 7 host computer, log on as admi nistrator. Next, run the installation wizard to accept the end user license agreement, sele ct the folder in which to install the files, determine where you want workstatio n shortcuts displayed, and supply the Workstation serial number. To install Workstation on a Linux host, first log on with the user name you plan to use when you run Workstation and become root to perform the installation. Next, mount the package and use bundle to install the package. Then, use the configuration program to configure the installation of VMware Work station. This program walks you through accepting the license agreement, choosin g the installation folders, and setting up the virtual network. In addition to u sing this program the first time you install workstation, you must use it when y ou upgrade Workstation or the host operating system kernel. You also use it to r econfigure the networking options for Workstation for example, to add or remove ho st-only networking. We discuss setting up virtual networks later in this module. After Workstation is installed, you need the operating system installation CDs, DVDs, or ISO image files to set up a guest operating system in a virtual machine . Q2Q5-The processor must be an Intel or AMD x86 processor with a speed of 733 MHz o r more. Please refer to the Workstation 7.0 User s manual for an exhaustive list c ompatible processors. At least 2 gigabytes of physical memory is required. However the memory requirem ent depends on the host operating system, plus the memory required for each gues t operating system and for applications on the host and guest. The total amount of memory you can assign to all virtual machines running on a single host is lim ited only by the amount of RAM on the host. The maximum amount of memory for each virtual machine is 8 gigabytes. The virtual machines running under Workstation perform better if they have faste r processors and more memory. Workstation 7.0 supports IDE and SCSI drives. For the basic installation of Work station 7.0, the host machine must have a free disk space of 1.5 GB if the host operating system is Windows and 200MB in the case of Linux host operating system . The host machine should also have enough amount storage space for creating vir tual machines and installing guest operating systems and applications. Q
