Quarterly Report from Social Media Chair, Steve Taddei, DTM What are you currently doing as the

chair person? As Social Media Chairperson, were communicating with District 57 Toastmasters and Toastmasters all over the world about the activities in our District. The social media that were using the most is Facebook, Twitter, & Linkedin. Facebook; we have 289 people who like our page. That means 289 people see everything that we post. This number expands exponentially when we tag someone in a photo. This is up from 223 likes on July 1. Our goal is to have 500 likes by June 30, 2014. We have some interesting people liking us on Facebook; Current & Past International Directors, David McCallister, Jim Kohli, Sharon Hill, Jim Sultan, Kevin Doyle, Khaled Matlagaitu, Tammy Miller, and Teresa Dukes. International Director Candidate, Julia Davis. In addition, we have individual Toastmasters from all over the world seeing what District 57 is accomplishing. We posted amazing photos in real time from the International Convention. Facebook is effective with any district event. For Speech Contests we create a calendar event and attach a flyer that gives details to everyone. Were also posting photos of these events. Highlights have been Island City President Jeanie Egbert accepting a City Proclamation from Alameda Mayor Marie Gilmore. Tanya and Tabatha Jansen participating in Toastmasters TV. Twitter; we opened the account in July and currently have 10 followers including 1st Vice President Jim Kokochi. District 57 is following some interesting people including Ryan Jenkins, the gentleman who spoke about the Millennial Generation at the International Convention. Linkedin; District 57 has an interesting discussion page that was started several years ago by George Marshall. Discussions can be on anything. Currently theres one on originality in humorous speech contests. Were managing the three sites with Hootsuite. Hootsuite allows us to write one message that is posted on all three sites.

How have you reached out to the district membership about your chair subject, and in support of your chair duties? Any event that I attend, I ask members to like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter. Ive also sent emails to Division Governors requesting photos. While members have been good about sending me photos, Id like to see more. We have a great team, Ive gotten good suggestions and advice from Teri McDonald, Dorian Taylor, and George Marshal on ways to improve things. Prior to July, we were most effective with Linkedin. This year were continuing what George was successful with and have more people who are savvy with social media. For years weve had a District Facebook page that was underused, now were making several postings each week that are not only informing District 57

members, theyre seen by Toastmasters and the general public from all over the world. Twitter is moving forward, and was not used by District 57 prior to July. What are you improving in relation to the subject of your chair position? Our next step is to improve our effectiveness with meetup, youtube, and pinterest. At the International Convention, Director Candidate Vince Caldwell told me that meetup is a very effective site to promote club activities, particularly with young people. Youtube and pinterest will make us more effective with videos & photos.

How will this benefit the district? Our communication is getting a farther reach every day.

What is your vision of the improvement to your chair subject and duties and how will that benefit the district by June 30, 2014? As I wrote earlier, the goal is to have 500 likes on our Facebook page by the end of the year. Im also intrigued by the presentation that Tod Henry made about using Facebook to promote a demo-meeting. Id like to work with Tod, Eddie, and a Division Governor on this and incorporate meetup.

Whom are you mentoring to take your chair position July 1, 2014, and how are you developing their leadership skills? Valerie Lukecart joined Toastmasters in February and currently is the Vice President of Public Relations at Alameda Tongue Twisters. Valerie has done a great job taking Tongue Twisters to social media. Im going to recruit her to this years team.
