Darkness

EXT. DARK PLANET - NIGHT There is hardly any light anywhere. We can see the faint shapes of landforms due to the light of distant stars. Suddenly, everything becomes illuminated by the blinding light of a small spacecraft. INT. SPACECRAFT - MOMENTS LATER Two astronauts, BARRY and RICHARD, are strapped into the cockpit. They unbuckle after landing. BARRY Ready to make history? RICHARD You bet your ass I am. The two men exit the craft. EXT. DARK PLANET - MINUTES LATER The two exit, now wearing all of their protective gear. Their suits have numerous flashlights on them that point in various directions. Barry takes out a small tablet device and various planetary readings come up. BARRY Remarkable. These temperatures are lower than anything ever recorded. RICHARD What are they? BARRY More then two-hundred degrees below zero. RICHARD Wow. They continue to walk around the planet. Unbeknownst to them, several small creatures without eyes are watching them from a short distance. These creatures are illimunated by the astronauts' flashlights but the astronauts do not notice them. BARRY Start taking pictures. I'll collect samples. RICHARD On it.

The two split up. Barry begins to take pictures of the sky. Then he takes pictures of various landforms and the horizon. Richard bends over and takes out a large container. He begins to put soil into it. Richard's camera uses flash which illuminates the land for brief instances. BARRY You know, this place is actually kind of boring. RICHARD Maybe at first glance, but it's a scientific marvel. Not orbitting a star. No sense of direction or guidance. Just aimlessly floating through space. BARRY How do you think it got like this? RICHARD Hell if I know. It could have been a heavy a meteor that knocked it out of orbit. But everything is theoretical. A faint cackling sound is heard. BARRY What was that? RICHARD Maybe the wind? Barry continues to collect samples while Richard takes pictures. Eventually, the flash biefly reveals the face of one of the creatures. It scurries away quickly. RICHARD Holy shit! Richard backs away, now startled. Barry stops collecting samples and stands up. BARRY What? RICHARD I just saw something. BARRY What could you have seen?

RICHARD It was a creature. It ran away. BARRY No way. This planet hasn't had life in millions of years. RICHARD I'm telling you, I saw something. The bastard had no eyes. But it seemed to be looking right at me. It's like it could...feel my presence. BARRY Maybe your oxygen supply is failing. You could be getting light-headed. Head back to the shuttle. You can take more pictures tomorrow. RICHARD And what about you? BARRY I'm not done yet. I still have a lot more to collect. I think I'll continue for another hour or two. RICHARD Okay but...be careful. BARRY I think I'll be fine. Richard starts to walk back to the shuttle. Barry bends down and begins to take more samples. After a few more moments, he looks up and one of the creatures is diretly in front of him. He becomes terrified. EXT. SPACECRAFT - MOMENTS LATER Richard presses a button on the spacecraft and it opens up. BARRY (O.S.) (screaming to the top of his lungs) Richard! Richard! Richard turns to Barry and begins to run in his direction. EXT. DARK PLANET - MOMENTS LATER Richard gets in the general area of Barry.

RICHARD What? What? He sees Barry on the ground. Barry is on the ground and flailing his limbs in fear. He is also screaming to the top of his lungs. RICHARD (CONT'D) Barry! Richard runs over to Barry. His suit is punctured and Barry is bleeding profusely. A creature in the distance scurries away. Richard looks down at Barry and sees that he is still faintly alive. RICHARD (CONT'D) Fuck! What happened?! Barry points off into the distance with his last ounce of strength. After holding for a moment, the arm falls limply to the ground and Barry dies. Richard looks in the direction and focues his flashlight at it. A large group of the creatures are gathered and looking right at Richard. He swallows nerously. FADE TO BLACK. SUPERIMPOSE: The darkness hides that which is not meant to be seen. THE END.
