Childrens Advocate Job Description

Position: Status: Reports To: Childrens Advocate Hourly Safe House Manager

Position Summary: Responsible for the coordination of the Safe House Childrens Program, under the guidance and supervision of the Safe House Manager. Using trauma informed/empowerment models provide assessment, referrals, and advocacy for children in the safe house. Skills, Knowledge, and Ability: Able to work with children and groups of various ages Able to prioritize and handle multiple tasks if needed Capable of maintaining data needed for grant/inter-agency reporting

Essential Functions: Conduct in-take assessment with mothers and children as they enter the Safe House, with the goal of assessing immediate and long term need such as: clothing, medicine, schooling, counseling etc Ensure mothers receive information needed to access daycare/enroll children in school Arrange necessary contacts, letters and/or communication with other agencies or individuals to assist client in attaining resources and goals Conduct mother support groups/parenting groups geared toward educational parenting skills Meet with each child and mother at least once a week individually and together Provide children activities and programming as needed for children ages 0-17, this should include but not limited to: develop homework club, field trips, family nights, holiday parties, childrens birthdays and other special events Provide childcare as needed Remain knowledgeable of Safe House and agency policy and procedure Perform other duties which may be required

Qualifications 60 Units of college level coursework in child development, psychology, social science, or related field, or at least two years combination of education and experience. Bilingual Spanish Preferred

Additional Requirements Reliable transportation, valid California Drivers License and proof of insurance Ability to lift supplies up to 10 lbs. to waist height Fingerprint clearance required Completion of Crisis Intervention Training (post hire requirement)
