Type M220 Communicating Measurement Centre

Features
Single phase or three-phase connection Balanced or unbalanced load True rms measurements Active and reactive energy metering Two line LCD display Pulsed outputs available Four quadrant power measurements Setting of VT and CT ratios MODBUS Communications over RS485 or RS232. Demand values for current, active, reactive and apparent power Real time clock with battery backup Compact and rugged design

Application
M220 applications include; Accurate monitoring of instantaneous and integrated values Active energy measurement to IEC 61036 class 1.0 Replacement of separate energy meters and instrumentation in cost-sensitive applications Distributed monitoring using an integrated system The M220 is intended for use on systems where energy monitoring and instrumentation are required, providing volts, amps, watts, VArs, VA, power factor and frequency, as well as metering for active and reactive power. Demand values for current, active, reactive and apparent power are also provided. In this application, the M220 can provide a more cost-effective solution than using separate devices, saving on hole-punching and wiring costs as well as the more obvious device cost and panel space savings. The M220 can also enable system-level access for all parameters and settings using MODBUS RTU communications over either RS485 or RS232 connections.

Introduction
The M220 Communicating Measurement Centre uses numerical technology to achieve high accuracy over a wide dynamic measuring range. It measures energy, demand and instantaneous values for single or three phase systems, and can be linked into a system using the MODBUS protocol. Housed in a DIN 144mm by 144mm by 117mm (max) case, the M220 is compact, rugged and ideal for panel mounting in power distribution or power monitoring systems.

Hardware description
The M220 is housed in a DIN case with maximum dimensions of 144mm by 144mm by 117mm. Two variants of M220 are available. For three phase three wire unbalanced two element systems, a unique device is required. A second model caters for all other system configurations. The front panel contains a 2 lines by 24 character liquid crystal display, with a character size of 4.86mm by 2.96mm. Four pushbuttons provide access to the M220s menu. Measuring circuit connections on the rear are by means of individual M4 screw clamp terminals. Auxiliary, communications and pulsed output connections use M2.5 terminal blocks.

Notes on ordering

VT

V L-L or V L-N

The standard devices on offer reflect the new normalised European voltage, eg. 230V L-N will work on a 220V or 240V system. Therefore, if for example a 220V unit is requested, a nominal 230V unit will be supplied. Note: The unit of measurement displayed changes according to the change in CT ratio. The energy per pulse is related to the displayed value. See Table 1 below for default settings.
