What is art really?

Nowadays we look at bricks in a random wall and we might call it artistic because a brick is a little bit different (or even not). How can we define art? In ancient cultures, art had some key elements which were passed down from father to son. That knowledge was considered sacred and usually remained within the family. You can easily spot this by taking a look at ancient Greece, Egypt, China, India etc. By the time of the renaissance this was not the case anymore. Knowledge was lost for various reasons (e.g. the burning of the library of Alexandria) and there was no way to keep any principles since most of them were lost. Artists like Leonardo Da Vinci and Michael Angelo pointed the way of the ancient thinking but it was to be abandoned pretty soon after. Art became a personal matter. Every man, whether educated or not could become an artist. This comes down to our generation. They began to say that art is all about passion, emotion. And this is where all goes wrong. Art was originally created in order to project ideas, certain aspects of Truth based on mathematical analysis (i.e. the Pyramids, the Parthenon etc). Every detail was measured, studied and then put into place to contribute to the overall result. Art was all about mathematics in every way. Knowledge of astronomy was put in it, engineering, and geometry. All these sciences were used to produce a supreme quality of music and architecture. This way the emotions that a group of people get when they witness such a piece of art are the same, because it was meant to be like this, there arent any abstract points. However if you take a piece of contemporary art which has no scientific structure, it will create different feelings in the audience. Sometimes we listen to a song and we think of something. The person next to us thinks of something else. If however we both listen to ancient music, we will be getting the same exact feeling. The same goes for classical music and some guys who create music for movies and video games. Is it too bizarre to talk about art like this? Is the music industry producing any good music? Are the lyrics good enough to be sung (dont forget that some years ago people used to write poems to their lovers, now they just send a song via social networks). There seems to be a lack of quality in art that is affecting our lives. Considering the overall decline in our life-style quality too, we dont seem to do any good to ourselves. And the emotion thing that is being suggested at all times as the most significant factor in our lives is not as important as we want it to be. In reality we rely too much in emotion because we have no scientific knowledge to support our arguments (scientific doesnt mean proven by research). Even a good philosophical book might free your mind a bit. Science is the language of the environment. Mathematics is the language of the universe. Why not learn them? It takes time, I know, but it takes time to learn a human language as well think about it. Think about it as an art.
