Instruction Manual

1. General
Model H9MO-1641X multi-service optic SDH access platform----MSDH (Multi-Service over SDH) is a new generation SDH access equipment that can support two grades (STM-1 and STM-4) of optic interfaces at the same time and these interfaces can be upgraded to STM-16 in the future. The platform can be configured as synchronization regenerator (REG), terminal multiplexing (TM) equipment, add/drop multiplexing equipment or digital cross connection (DXC) equipment and is suitable for various network configurations such as chain network, ring network and mesh network. Service modes E1, E3 and Ethernet are supported. Generally, the platform is configured as STM-4 system. If user so requires, it can also be configured as STM-4 system. To suit large capacity, system can be upgraded to STM-16. Available interface types are: E1, E3, STM-1 electrical interfaces; STM-1, STM-4, STM-16 optic interfaces; Ethernet data communication interface etc. Since a long period of negligence of the effect on many services by low frequency flickering in SDH network introduced by specific factors such as pointer adjustment, index used by PDH network (ITU-T suggestion G.823) is still used as flicker and drift code of 2048kbit/s signals on SDH network. In early network formed by SDH equipment, although E1 channel flicker index provided by equipment supplied by different manufacturers can meet G.823 suggestions, piggybacking service is often affected in actual operation by low frequency flickering in excess of suggested range. This is most prominent in GSM base station network. Therefore, ITU-T revised G.823 in June 1998 and changed the former lower limit frequency for E1 channel flicker testing filter from 20Hz to 10Hz. H9MO-1641X equipment not only conforms to current ITU-T suggestions about SDH STM-N, buy also takes into account of the aforesaid changes of G.823 suggestions. Special measures have been taken to suppress E1 channel low frequency flicker so that the platform has indices better than required by the new G.823 suggestions. H9MO-1641X equipment can synchronize with external clock, line clock, clock extraction of specified E1 branch or equipment internal oscillating source, and switch over automatically according to preset priorities. This equipment is equipped with business telephone subsystem. Calls and talks can be in hotline mode or point to point dialing mode, all according to settings. In addition, 64kbit/s digital channel can be provided to satisfy your needs. This equipment adopts advanced integral hardware structure that can be flexibly configured to form various network topology structures. Hot plug-in and removal are supported to facilitate system maintenance and upgrades. Networks formed by H9MO-1641X series optic/electric transmission equipment can be incorporated into the centralized management environment of monitoring software H7GMSW of our subsidiary. Through the monitoring system, operation status of network can be monitored real time, various modes of circuit tests can be controlled and centralized dispatch of network channel resources can be realized.

2. 2.1

Equipment features
Integralization of transmission and access

This equipment is a breakthrough of traditional SDH transmission concept and incorporates advanced transmission and access technologies to form an organic combination of transmission and access, which is this integral transmission/access platform that we provide to users. For traditional E1/E3 circuit service, this equipment can flexibly configure circuit up and down, easily provide circuits and seamlessly connect with other access equipment of our subsidiary with integral monitoring and alarm. Users don't have to worry about interconnection of access with transmission. The monitoring software can manage all equipment and external alarm device such as alarm box can be used in a unified manner. For data service, especially broadband service, this equipment is designed with its access unit as one of its portions. 10/100Base-T Ethernet service access unit can offer broadband data access directly on SDH using POS protocol.

2.2

Network data service

This equipment adopts statistic multiplexing mode for data service access, not channel mode, so as to increase transmission efficiency and truly support network type data service. When channel type transmission is used for data service, only 2M, 34M and 140M interfaces can be provided due to SDH structural limits. Secondly, resources can not be fully made use of since each datum is transferred on its own channel. Thirdly, too many interfaces are unavoidable for the many service points connected with one another since only point to point service is supported by channel type data communication. On the other hand, network type data have certain exchange and multiplexing capability so that as long as a service is connected into the system, multiplexing exchange of data will be completed by system and access unit between every two points is not required. Thus access is greatly simplified and transmission efficiency increased.

2.3

Various network structures available

H9MO-1641X equipment adopts leading edge multi-service bus technology so that it can be configured flexibly as terminal multiplexer, bifurcation multiplexer and cross connector. At the same time, several optic disks are supported, thereby facilitating various network topology structures.

4. Networking method
H9MO-1641X equipment can form closed ring type, chain type and mesh type transmission network. This section describes methods and features of various network connections using this equipment.

4.1

Chain type network

Fig.4 shows a chain transmission network formed by H9MO-1641X equipment.

Fig.4 Chain type network

In the above figure, starting and end equipment are terminal type equipment, and all other equipment are relay type. "East" and "West" represent east side OHT/OLT disk and west side OHT/OLT disk on equipment respectively and are not related to actual geographic directions. Such terminal equipment can also form point to point connection. Connecting lines between equipment indicate fiber optic connection and arrows point to transmission direction of optic signals. Please note the relation between the terminals and the east & west and directions of relay station. Main console computer can connect to any node equipment on the chain network and not necessarily with a terminal.

4.2

Ring type network

Fig.5 shows a schematic diagram of ring type network formed by H9MO-1641X equipment. All equipment in the figure is relay type. The "East" and "West" marked on the two sides of equipment represent east and west side OHT/OLT disks respectively, and are not related to actual directions. Connecting lines between equipment indicates fiber optic cable and arrows indicate transmission direction of optic signals. Please note the relation between transmission direction and input/output optic modules on east/west optic terminal disks. No wrong connection is allowed. Main console computer can be connected with any node equipment. Ring type network formed by this equipment has good self-curing capability. In case of local fiber or optic cable breakage during operation, monitoring system can automatically switch multiplexing section and quickly restore all normal communication between nodes in the original ring network to self-cure. In case of failure of a certain node (e.g. loss of power),

this node will be automatically excluded form the network, not affecting communication between other nodes on the ring.

Fig.5 Ring network In order to keep stable operation of network, self-curing operation will be screened during the first several minutes after turn-on. Besides, when conditions activating self-cure vanish, self-cure will not reset immediately. A 3-12 minutes protection period will exist during which self-cure status will remain. Mandatory canceling can be made through monitor/control commands during protection period.

4.3

Mesh type network

Since this equipment supports arbitrary cross connection, more complicated mesh type network topology structure can be formed and sub-network protection of channels is supported.

5. Clock processing
As SDH equipment, network formed by H9MO-1641X equipment work best in synchronized clock state, i.e. clocks of all nodes on network come from the same source. To this end, there is but only one node equipment configured at master clock state that adopts 2048 kHz or 2048kbit/s external clock synchronization, arbitrary E1 branch clock synchronization, or equipment internal clock synchronization (clock source priorities are set by monitor/control unit). All other nodes are configured at slave clock state that is synchronized with STM-N line clock or other synchronization clock source. Master clock node is also called main node. Usually, central service node is configured as main node, which is at main clock operating state. The clock of this equipment uses algorithm and circuits the intellectual properties of which are possessed by our company. Large scale programmable integrated circuits are used to handle complicated digitized time processing and filtering to provide excellent performance and high operation stability.

6. Business support
6.1 Circuit business
This equipment supports 252 E1 branches and has an exchange capacity of 504 x 504. Crossing from branch to branch, line to branch and line to line can be carried out. Unidirectional communication, bidirectional communication and broadcasting are supported.

6.2

7. Service overhead
7.1 Business telephone
This equipment provides a business telephone line through E1 overhead byte in STM-N frame structure. All such equipment is equipped with a business telephone. These business telephones provide business contact between nodes on ring or chain type network and can be configured as hot line mode or dialing call mode. In hot line mode, pickup at any node will activate ringing at all nodes that have been configured hotline. In dialing call mode, telephone sets must be set at dual tone multi-frequency (DTMF) mode; selective point to point calls can be carried out. During conversation on a line ("line business" green indicator lit), non-called node can not joint the conversation, so as to provide secrecy. Privilege to joint conversation any time can be allowed by configuration to satisfy such need. Called node will send ring-back tone to the line at the same time of ringing. In order that ring-back will not interfere conversation when one of the called parties does not pick up, ringing and ring-back are limited to about 1 minute. 7.1.1 Dialing call mode 7.1.1.1 Point to point Provided that calls are permitted, simply dial #XX after pickup. XX is the number of called node. 7.1.1.2 Point to the whole line Provided that calls are permitted, simply dial #** after pickup.

7.2

Data channel

Fiber optic transmission network formed by H9MO-1641X equipment can provide two data channels in addition to E1 transparent transmission channels between network elements. These data channels can be configured as 64kbit/s synchronous digital channels or asynchronous data channel of 9.6k baud rate or less. The 64 kbit/s channel uses V.35 or G.703 interface while the asynchronous channel uses RS232 or RS485 interface. Channel type and interface mode depend on jumpers on business data disk (see 10.1.3 for details of setting). Channel allocation is set by monitor/control software. Operating mode of digital channels can be configured as point to point, broadcasting or bus type. Point to point mode type can provide full duplex communication between any nodes on

H9MO-1641X

Instruction Manual

the network. However, two such data channels can at most provide point to point communication for two pairs of nodes. Broadcasting type setting can realize simplex broadcasting type communication from one point to multiple points. Bus type setting allows any one node on a data channel to send data to other nodes, provided that (1) all parties participating in the communication adopt link layer protocol that allows at any time only one node to send data; (2) idle node sends high level. For instance, when RS485 interface is selected and data channel is set as bus type, H9MO-1641X equipment can provide monitor/control channel for other products of our company. Since monitor/control protocol adopts half duplex master-slave polling mode, main node patrol commands and answering commands of queried nodes all exclusively occupy channel in time division mode while all other nodes show idle with high level.

Fig.7 Schematic diagram of network monitor/control interconnection Fig.7 is a schematic diagram of monitor/control connections between sub-networks formed by H9MO-1641X equipment. To facilitate monitor/control, each independent sub-network corresponds to a unique network address while each node in sub-network corresponds to a unique network element address in this sub-network. When Q3 protocol is used, network address and node address adopt IP address WWW.XXX.YYY.ZZZ, in which WWW.XXX.YYY segment defines network address and ZZZ segment defines node address. Range of WWW segment is 192-223, range of XXX and YYY segments is 0-255, and range of ZZZ segment is 0-254. When TABS special protocol is used, network address range is 1-28; network element address range is 0-124. Allocation of network element address starts with main node whose address is 0, and proceeds from west to east (refer to definitions of "east" and "west" of optic terminal disk in chassis) in augmenting sequence. Nodes on west side are defined as upstream node while those on east side are defined as down stream nodes. If, in chain type network, the main node is not at first end (farthest west end), addresses of the node at first end and its succeeding nodes shall be defined following that of the last node (farthest east end). For ring network, addresses shall be in ring sequence. 5 transmission sub-networks are shown in the figure. Chain network 1 & 2 and ring network 3 all have a node inside main control room while point to point sub-networks 4 and 5 are far away from main control room as branch networks of sub-networks 2 and 3. Sub-network 3 connects to main console via 10BASE-T Ethernet. Sub-networks 1 and 2 are hung under main console computer via RS485 bus. Monitor/control of sub-networks 4 and 5 is cross-terrain retransmission connected via the monitor/control channel of sub-networks 2 and 3. To implement cross-terrain retransmission connection, it is necessary for main console to set gateway nodes (refer to section 8.3.5). The main console can carry out

(query) button is used for querying of current data channel settings of the network. 8.3.5 Setting of monitor/control gateway Monitor/control gateway refers to a network element that sends monitor/control commands for another sub-network. Usually, the gateway is in the same equipment room as the main control node of this sub-network, for instance node 2.2 and node 3.1 in Fig.7. Setting of gateway depends on network structure and is usually carried out by contractor during network construction or expansion. Gateway setting is not in the scope of daily monitor/control by user, but relevant routing table has to be saved for network elements as gateway nodes. When replacing monitor/control disk, it will be necessary to download routing table again to each gateway node. Detailed method of gateway setting is described in the instruction manual of network management software H7GMSW.

Monitor/control of network elements

Object of network element monitor/control is equipment that form network node. There are two classes of monitor/control contents: equipment settings and unit disk monitor/control. Equipment settings include setting of node address and information query etc. and are implemented via RS232 interface directly connected with node equipment. Objects of unit disk monitor/control are specific unit disks and contents of monitor/control differ with different disk. 8.4.1 Setting of node address It is through the 9 pin RS232 port on the side of monitor/control panel that this command can be used to set network element addresses. Usually, setting of network element addresses is only necessary during initial network construction, network expansion and monitor/control disk replacement. Use Ctrl-A hot key to activate node address setting command window as show in the figure below. Link address is the network address of the sub-network where this node is located.

10.2 E1TP branch processing disk

10.2.1 General E1TP21 E1 branch mapping interface disk is one of the kernel units of H9MO-1641X equipment. E1TP21 disks fulfill multiplexing and demultiplexing between 21 E1 signals (2.048Mbps) and a SDH TUG3 module signal. Special IC's jointly developed by our subsidiary and Electronic Engineering Department of Qinghua University are used to suppress flickering and drifting brought by SDH network pointer adjustments. Residual flickering of E1 branch output is much lower than newest ITU-T suggestion (lower limit frequency of E1 channel flicker testing filter has been changed from 20Hz to 10Hz) and the value specified by state standard. Therefore, H9MO-1641X equipment exhibits excellent timing transparency at PDH interface and is very suitable for applications for which high timing signal transparency is required, e.g. GSM networking. Other features of E1TP21 disk are internal cross connection function for 2M signal, 2M signal controlled direct transmission function and 2M signal broadcasting function. These features provide good channel setting and configuration capabilities and increased networking flexibility. A monitor/control interface is provided in E1TP21 unit disk. Monitor/control clock disk use this interface to monitor various alarm contents of this disk and control operating status of the disk, including setting of operation mode, cross connection, direct transmission channel and broadcasting channel; rear and far end loop-back control as well as alarm status report, etc. E1TP21 unit disk adopts HTP9021 special extra large scale integrated circuit and surface mating process. All lock phase ring circuits, 2M interface clock extraction circuits, HDB3 encoding/decoding circuits, 2M interface AIS and LOS alarm circuits are integrated by digitizing technology in the HTP9021 chip. There is no adjustable device on the disk and all setting can be made by software configuration via monitor/control bus. Therefore, abundant functions, low power consumption, high flexibility, high stability and reliability are provided.

10.3 Monitor/control clock disk (SVPWR)

10.3.1 General A monitor/control disk consists of 3 units: monitor/control unit, clock unit and power supply unit. 1. Monitor/control unit Monitor/control subsystem of H9MO-1641X consists of monitor/control clock disk hardware, its built-in software, main console computer and its software. Each monitor/control disk is responsible for monitoring and control of its native end equipment, transmission of monitor/control messages between each pair of nodes on the network, report of system operation status to main control computer, reception and execution of control commands sent by main console. In addition to network management monitor/control functions, the monitor/control clock disk initializes and sets various internal operation status of equipment and is responsible for self-cure operation of ring type network. Monitor/control clock disk provides Q3 interface network management software system and special TABS protocol network management system. The disk uses MCS-8051 series single chip microprocessor as its kernel, which works with its peripheral circuits to monitor and control other functional disks in equipment through built-in software. Non-volatile memory is provided in the disk to protect various control data against shutdown power-off. The disk communicates with main control computer via RS485 serial port and can also connect with network management system using 10BASE-T Ethernet interface. In addition, RS232 is provided by the disk for communication with portable monitor/control console. Communication between network nodes uses ECC built-in control channel of SDH. Communication between different sub-networks uses Ethernet interface of RS485 serial port. 2. Clock unit The monitor/control clock disk also provides timing signals to SDH equipment. The disk can be used for main clock node and slave clock node respectively. Main clock type can synchronize with input external timing datum 2MHz or 2Mbit/s, any E1 branch code flow, or STM-1 line clock. If there is no external clock source, the timing disk provides local oscillation clock of 4.6ppm stability or higher. There can be only one node operating in main clock mode in the whole network. This node can select timing datum according to priority sequence. If highest order external timing is lost, system will automatically detect the loss and switch to medium order timing (if not lost as well).
Beijing Huahuan Electronics Co. Ltd.
31

H9MO-1641X

Instruction Manual

Otherwise system will automatically switch to lowest order timing. Timing disk uses hardware circuits to detect loss of clock and such loss detection signals to control switch-over of clocks. LED is used for alarm and CPU notified. Slave clock nodes operate in ADM mode. Timing of these nodes comes from line clock. When line clock is lost, they can operate on highly stable local oscillation clock. The monitor/control clock disk outputs 2MHz or 2Mbit/s signals that are synchronized with native system and used for next stage system synchronization. 3. Power supply unit The monitor/control clock also provides operating power for all other functional disks in the equipment. This power disk uses DC/DC power transfer module to transfer 48V equipment room power to +5V chassis power.

4. Precautions 1) Do not exchange monitor/control panels of different node equipment, since addresses of network and nodes as well as other setting information are saved in monitor/control disk. If a monitor/control disk is replaced, you need to set address information and other items again. 2) Various settings and controls need to be implemented by main control software or portable computer software. Please note that during system networking, setting and modification of network address and node address of each piece of node equipment must be carried out by computer monitor/control software connected via RS232 interface instead of main console connected at 10BASE-T or RS485 port. See the chapter on monitor/control software for detailed setting methods.

10.4 OW business/data channel disk

10.4.1 General OW disk is a business/data channel disk that uses STM-N frame multiplexing section overhead E1 as business telephone channel to provide a business telephone subsystem for transmission network formed by H9MO-1641X integral optic/electric transmission equipment, for daily network duty shift management. In addition, this disk provides two data channel interfaces. The business disk has been designed taking into consideration of special needs of ring type network structure. It features node address identification, tone signal digital transition and various functional units such as break-in control. These features guarantee conversation quality and provide various call and multiparty conversation functions. Calling mode can be hot line or DTMF (dual tone, multi-frequency) dialing. Called station will send ring-back tone to line while ringing. In order that ring-back will not interfere conversation when one of the called parties does not pick up, a ringing and ring-back timer is provided that limits ringing and ring-back to about 1 minute. When any station picks up as calling party, line-busy indicators of all other stations are lit.

75 coaxial terminal adaptor 120 winding terminal adaptor Fig.13 E1 terminal disk schematic diagram The two rows of winding terminals near left and right edges of the 120 winding terminal adaptor schematic diagram are screened terminals; all other terminals are signal winding terminals. You can directly fix the adaptor unit on the front of chassis with screws. If there are a comparatively big number of coaxial cables, in which case it is not easy to run cable from chassis rear, you can also install adaptor unit on terminal rack that is in turn installed inside the cabinet. Each terminal rack can accommodate 6 adaptor units, which are connected to chassis via bundled cables. 10.5.2.6 Connection of external clock The external clock interface is used to connect 2048 kHz or 2048kbit/s external synchronization clock. The interface can be 75 non-balanced CC4(1.0/2.3) coaxial socket or 120 balanced winding connection.

A-IN and B-IN are inputs for external synchronization clock. C-OUT is system output clock. The two pins on the outside of the winding socket are used to connect balance cable while the inside winding pin is used to connect cable external screening earth wire. The 3 groups of jumpers on the upper part of the socket are used for earthing of coaxial cable external screening layer when coaxial connection is used. The screening layer is earthed when the jumper plug is on the right and not earthed when jumper is on the left. Earthing or not depends on the environment and can be decided through tests. 10.5.2.7 Monitor/control connections Users who have purchased monitor/control station can carry out monitor/control of equipment through 3 kinds of interfaces: Q3 interface, RS485 interface and RS232 interface. When Q3 interface is used, you should connect the Ethernet adaptor of main console computer to main board monitor/control interface via LAN (using HUB, SWITCH HUB, etc.). See Fig.8 for signal relations of Q3 monitor/control interface. When RS485 interface is used, user shall connect RS485 bus cable socket to RS485 socket of main board at the node address of main console. See Table 2 for signal relations of RS485 interface. Table 2: Signal relations of RS485 interface
Pin No. 2 TxP 3 TxN 4 RxP 5 RxN

When RS232 interface is used, connect the serial port of portable unit to the RS232 socket of main board. See Table 1 for signal relations of RS232 interface. At this time, the monitor/control program can only monitor and control operation status of this equipment. 10.5.2.8 Connection of data channels 15 pin D-shaped socket type data interfaces 1 and 2 are used to connect data channels. User can use these interfaces to provide two data channels. Data channel interfacing method depends on jumpers on the business data disk and can be RS232, RS485 or V.35. See Tables 3 and 4 for signal relations of data interface 1/2.
