Players Thegameisplayedwith7playersatonetime.Numbersmayvaryin PhysicalEducationclass. Offensiveplayersare:leftandrightwingman(perimetersideplayers whoshoottheanglesofthegoal,leftpositionshouldbearighthanded playerandviceversa),LeftandRightBackcourt(attemptsgoalsby jumpingandshootingoverdefenders,usuallytallplayerswillservethis positionwell),CenterBackcourt(Thepointguardoftheteamorplay maker),Pivot(setspicksandattemptstodisruptthedefense,this playershouldhavegoodballcontrolandphysicalstrength).  Playingfield Thecourtis40meterslongand20meterswide,withadividinglinein themiddleandagoalinthecenterofeitherend.Asemicircular6meter linesurroundsthegoals.Thissemicircularareaisalsocalledthegoal area/crease/zone.Thereisalsoadashedsemicircularlinethatis9 metersawayfromthegoalcalledthefreethrowline.The7meterlineis thepenaltythrowline.

Objective TheobjectofTeamHandballistogainpointsbyscoringgoals(1point pergoal). AgoalisscoredwhentheballhitsinthegoalinKovlerandSunnyGym themaroon/redpadsonthewall.Theteamwiththemostpointsatthe endofthegamewins!

 Time Gameswillconsistoftwo30minuteperiods. Intheeventofatieattheendofregulation,therewillbetwoovertime periodsfor5minutes.Ifeachoftheseendsinatie,thewinneris determinedbyanindividualshootoutfromthe7meterline,whereeach teamisgiven5shots.Ifaftertenshotsawinnerisstillnotfound,the playersreturntoshootinguntiloneteamhasmissedandtheother scored.(SuddenDeath).Inclasstimewillbebasedonclasssize. ThrowOff Athrowofftakesplacefromthecenterofthecourt.Thethrowermust touchthemiddlelinewithonefootandalloftheotherplayersmustbe ontherehalfofthecourt.Defensiveplayersmustbeatleastthree metersfromthethrower.Athrowoffoccurstostarteachperiodand afteragoalisscored. Agoalmaynotbescoreddirectlyfromthethrowoff. PlayingRules *Playersareallowed3stepswheninpossessionoftheball.Whenusing onesdribble,aplayermaytake3steps,thenpickuptheirdribble,then take3moresteps. *Theballmaybeplayedwithanybodypartexceptlegbelowkneeand feet. *Anyballthattouchesarefereeandorgoalpostisstillplayable. *Offensiveplayersmaylandinthegoalareaiftheballwasreleased beforelanding.Otherwisenooneisallowedinthegoalareaatanytime exceptthegoalkeeper.

*Playershave3secondsinwhichtoplaytheballoncetheyhave possession.Thisisathreesecondholdinglimitisallsituations. *Defensiveplayersmay,obstruct,steal,ordeflecttheballwhen defending.Defenderscannotviolentlystrike,grab,tackle,orstrikethe ballfromtheoffensiveplayerhands. *Inclassdefendersmustbe3feetfromtheoffensiveplayerwiththe ball ThrowIn Athrowinisawardedtotheteamwhichdidnottouchtheballbeforeif wentoutofbounds(sidelineorceiling).Whenathrowinoccurs, defendersmustbe3metersbackfromthethrower. Agoalcannotbescoreddirectlyfromathrowin. FreeThrow AFreeThrowisawardedfromtheseinfractions:traveling,holdingthe ballformorethan3seconds,doubledribble,kickingtheball,and gettingcloserthan3feettotheoffensiveplayer Afreethrowrestartsplayafteraturnover.Afreethrowhappensatthe spotwheretheturnoveroccurred.Thethrowermaypasstheballinto teammatesorattemptashotatthegoal. PenaltyShot(7meterthrow) A7meterthrowisawardedwhenaclearchanceofscoringisillegally destroyedanywhereonthecourtbytheopposingteamplayer.Also knowafoul. Thethrower(fouledplayer)stepswithonefootonthe7meterline withonlythegoalieabletodefend.Allotherplayersmustbebehindthe freethrowlineuntiltheshotismade. Otherfoulsinclude:holding,pushing,hitting,tripping,jumpingintoand reachingaroundopponents,willallresultinapenaltyshot,iftheshotis preventedorinterferedwith.Ifthesefoulsoccurwhenaplayerisnot shooting,thenawarningandyellowcardwillbegiven.Onasecond infractionatwominutesuspensionandredcardwillbegiven.Inclass atwominutetimeoutwillbegiven.

 Goalkeeperthrow Whentheballpassedthegoallinewithoutthegoalielasttouchingit,a goalkeeperthrowisaward.(Inclasswecallitgoaliethrow).Thegoalie canthrowtheballfromanywhereinthegoalarea. Goalkeeper Theonlyplayerallowedinthegoalarea.He/shemaydefendinanyway excepthe/shecanonlyusefeetandlegbelowkneelinewhentheballis comingtowardsthegoal. OffensiveandDefensiveformations 24offense,15offense,132offense 60defense,42defense,51defense Offensiveplayinteamhandballarealsodistinguishedin3waves. FirstwaveWhentherearenodefensiveplayersaroundthe perimeterofthegoal.Averyhighchanceofsuccessusually occursafteraninterception. Secondwavewhenthefirstwaveisnotsuccessfulandthe offensestilloutnumbersthedefensiveplayersinthe perimeterarea.Againchanceofsuccessishigh. ThirdwaveInthethirdwave,theattackersusestandardized attackpatternsusuallyinvolvingcrossingandpassingbetween thebackcourtplayerswhoeithertrytopasstheballthrougha gaptotheirpivot,takeajumpingshotfromthebackcourtat thegoal,orlurethedefenseawayfromawingman.This happensasdefendersclosethegapsaroundthezone.

Terminology

CornerThrowWhentheballisplayedoverhisowngoallineby defendingplayer(exceptthegoalkeeper),oneithersideofthegoal;the gameisrestartedbymeansofathrowfromthecornerofthecourtby oneoftheattackingplayers.Theplayermustplaceonefootonthe cornerofthecourtbyonefootonthecornerandthrowtheballin,using eitherhand. FreeThrowLineThebrokenlineparalleltothegoalarealineatan extradistanceof10feet;fromthislinefreethrowsawardednearthe goalareaaretaken. GoalAgoalisconsideredscoredwhentheballhaspassedwhollyover thegoallinebetweentheuprightsandunderneaththecrossbarofthe goal. GoalAreaLineThesemicircularlinethatisdrawninfrontofandon eithersideofthegoal.

 Goalkeeper(Goalie)Theplayerwhoisallowedtoplayfreelyinside thegoalareatodefendthegoal. GoalLineThelineformingtheendofthecourt,whichrunsbetween theuprightsofthegoalandmeetsthesidelinesatthecornersofthe court. IHFInternationalHandballFederationistheadministrativeand controllingbodyforinternationalhandball.Thisfederationorganizes worldchampionships. JumpShotAshotwhichinvolvestheuseoftheshoulderthrowpassin whichtheballisreleasedattheheightofthejumpwiththemomentum ofthebodydirectedtowardthegoalratherthanfallingaway. PenaltyThrowAshotattemptedbyanyoffensiveplayerwhenan offensiveplayerispreventedfrommakingacleargoalscoringchance byfoulsmeans.Theplayerattemptingthepenaltythrowisrequiredto makeadirectattempttoscoreagoalfromthepenaltythrowline. ThrowOffTakenbytheteamthatwinsthetossandchoosestostart thegamewiththeball.Eachteammustbeinitsownhalfofthecourt withthedefense3metersawayfromtheball.Athrowoffisrepeated aftereverygoalscoredandafterhalftime. ThrowInAwardedwhenballgoesoutofboundsonthesidelineor whentheballislasttouchedbydefensiveplayer(excludingthegoalie) andgoesoutofboundsovertheendline.Thethrowinistakenfromthe spotwheretheballcrossedthesideline,oritcrossedtheendline,from thenearestcorner.Thethrowershouldhaveonefootonthesidelineto executethethrow.Opposingplayersmuststand3metersawayfrom theball.
