Air Pollution by Adrianne Olsen

Pollution, especially air pollution is becoming a serious problem. Day by day, the air that we breathe is becoming dirtier and more impure. There are many causes of air pollution. Firstly, the chemical wastes from factories pollute the air with carbon dioxide and other harmful pollutants. It makes the air dirty. To overcome this problem, we need strict laws like closing down the factories that pollute the air. Another cause of is the exhaust fumes from cars and other vehicles. They emit poisonous gases like carbon monoxide into the atmosphere and make the air very unhealthy. To control this problem, we should start using unleaded petrol and practice car-pooling. In addition, the open burning of rubbish releases smoke and other harmful gases into the air. This results in haze which leads to serious health problems like asthma, bronchitis, lung cancer and other respiratory problems. We need to fine the people involved in open burning. Besides, our air is also polluted by chemical fertilizers and pesticides which contain poisonous chemicals. They release toxic gases into the atmosphere. These fertilizers should be banned and natural fertilizers should be used instead. Finally, smoke from factories also dirties the air. The smoke which contains polluted particles makes the air unhealthy and results in smog. Strict action like temporary closure should be taken against the factories involved. Thus, we should cooperate with the government and control air pollution to save our environment.

Everyday at least twice

Balance diet is important

Exercise regularly

Sleep well - 6 - 8 hours

..

It is very important for us to stay healthy so that we can have a long life. There are many ways for us to stay healthy. First of all, we need to practice good personal hygiene. We need to bathe regularly. Since we live in a hot and humid country, we need to bathe at least two or three times a day to maintain our cleanliness. By bathing regularly, we can get rid of germs and dust from our body and feel fresh instead. Next, we have to eat a balanced diet. We should include food that contains proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins and minerals in our diet. A balanced diet will

ensure that our body gets the right proportion of nutrients. We could use the food pyramid as a guide to help us. These nutrients can help the body fight against diseases and are important for the repair of body tissues. Besides, we also need to exercise regularly, at least three times a week. We could play games or just do simple exercises like walking or jogging. This will help us to sweat out and burn off the extra calories to keep us fit and healthy. A healthy body gives us an active mind. This would in turn help us in our studies. Last but not least, we need to get enough sleep to stay healthy. As students, it is best that we sleep eight hours every night. It will not be easy as most of us would be burning the midnight oil with PMR just around the corner. However, we should at least sleep for six hours. This will make us more alert and attentive in class Hence, we must practice all these ways to stay healthy. We can plan and carry out healthy activities with our family members and friends so that we can have fun together and maintain our health at the same time. Wealth. Remember, Health is

Your cousin has got an offer to study in a boarding school. He / She has asked you for your opinion regarding the matter. Write a letter to him/her to give reasons why he / she should accept the offer. Use the following notes to help you: conducive learning environment excellent facilities many activities good and ample teachers only for selected students

295, Persiaran Tiram, Taman Seri Emas, 85100 Ulu Tiram , Johor. 26th June 2012 Dear Zayn, Thank you for the letter which I received yesterday. How are you getting on? I hope you and your family are always in the pink of health. Congratulations! I heard that you have been offered to study in Sekolah Sukan Bukit Jalil. I was really surprised when you asked for my opinion about it as you are not sure about going there. Well, if I were in your shoes, I would accept it in a heartbeat! You should accept the offer because the school offers perfect and conducive learning environment. The number of students in class is very minimal compared to jam-packed students in an ordinary school. There, all the teachers will be able to give extra attention to all students in the class to facilitate their learning. Furthermore, the school is fully-equipped with excellent facilities. Since you are a star footballer in your present school, you will have the opportunities to polish your skills. It is also built with a complete mini-stadium and Olympic-sized swimming pool. Moreover, the cafeteria, library and language laboratories in this school are fully air-conditioned. I was also told that the dormitories are rated 5-stars and they are in mint condition! If you refuse to go there, I am sure that you will regret it later because this kind of offer only comes once in a blue moon. Other than that, when you are studying in this school, you will have an ample time to do all the exciting activities. You are also interested in arts, right? I heard that the school provides a Musical and Theatre Club for students other than sports. In this special boarding school too, you will have the golden opportunities to learn something new like archery, squash and fencing. You can also enjoy the sports of diving and water polo. Therefore, being in this school will give you the opportunities to unleash your hidden talents. Other than that, you should also be glad that you dont have to worry about their excellent teachers. Sekolah Sukan Bukit Jalil does not have problems of insufficient teachers. The teachers are all experienced. They are not only specialised in sports but also academically. Most of them are the experienced item builders and examination markers. I

am sure you will not face any problems if you have to spend most of your time in football trainings because the teachers will be there for you. Nonetheless, this school is specially opened for selected students. You will surely make new friends who are highly motivated in studies and eager to find knowledge as well as to be excellent in the sports they play. You will definitely enjoy yourself being with them and they will surely bring the best in you as the saying goes good friends define you.

A Report on National Day Celebration

SMK Simpang Rengam held a grand National Day celebration on 31st August this year at Kluang Stadium. History Club, as the organiser had done a great job.

The celebration began with a march past by the school band. The boys in the band put on red uniform and a cap. They played beautiful music. Everyone applauded loudly when they entered the stadium and walked past the audiences.

This was followed by the raising of Malaysian flag. Everyone stood up straight and proudly sang our National Anthem and patriotic songs accompanied by the music played by our talented school band.

Then, a few cultural shows were performed by a group of students. They came up on a platform built in the middle of the stadium and danced traditional dances like zapin and inang gracefully. Another group of students also came up and sang some traditional songs like ghazal and lagu asli sweetly. The celebration ended with rhythmic gymnastics. Our schools gymnasts put up some of their gymnastic acts accompanied by classical and modern music. They used colourful ribbons and hoops. It was fascinating.

Everybody including our Education District Officer who came to give closing speech was speechless. The National Day Celebration would not be forgotten for many years to come.
