100 Easy Camping Recipes Preparing quick meals on camping trips is easy if you have the right recipes and ingredients. Just wait until you get any of the 100 recipes in this cookbook cooking over an open flame. Camp cooking has never been easier or tastier. Hot dogs and canned foods are by no means the extent of foods you can prepare easily while camping. If you can cook it at home, you can cook it over a campfire if you bring the needed ingredients and cooking equipment. Get a head start on any of these recipes by combining the seasonings at home in advance. Store each set in a separate plastic bag, label it and add a copy of the recipe. Cooking out will be a breeze when you are organized and that will leave extra time for fun in the sun. There are many ways to cook while camping, from grilling to tin foil packets to Dutch ovens. Just pop your meat and veggie in tin foil, cook it over the campfire and you have a quick and delicious meal. You will find many recipes you'll love inside this camp cooking guide. Rehearsal Campout
If camping is a new experience, a backyard campout is a good way to introduce your child to things he may find startling or worrisome. Camping in the backyard gets him accustomed to the spooky night sounds and prepares him for the new things hell be experiencing. You can also use this trial run to make notes of things to bring or conveniently forget.
Create Memories
Provide everyone with containers for treasures. Zippered storage bags or lidded plastic containers are inexpensive options. Provide disposable cameras for each child, or have them take turns with a digital camera to capture impressions of their adventures. Back at home, they can use their photos and collections to create a shadow box or a scrapbook to display their treasures.
Dairy Products
Eggs and cheeses are staples in a campside kitchen. They store well and are versatile for every meal.
Vegetables
Onions, potatoes and carrots keep well. Celery, if kept in an airtight container, will be a welcome addition for flavoring many casseroles and foil pouch meals.

BREAKFAST
Campfire Eggs
1 dozen eggs 1 pound of bacon (cut into bite size) 1/2 cup chopped onion 1/2 cup chopped bell pepper Chopped can mushrooms (small) Shredded cheddar or pepper jack cheese In a cast-iron skillet, fry the cut up bacon until almost done. Add onion, mushrooms and bell pepper and stir until bacon is crisp and vegetables are tender. Crack all 12 eggs into a large bowl and beat well (add a dash of milk if desired). Pour eggs into skillet and stir mixture until eggs are cooked. Sprinkle cheese on top.
Breakfast Burritos
1 ground sausage roll 4 or 5 potatoes Dozen eggs Flour tortillas American cheese Salsa Salt and pepper Pam cooking spray Potatoes - Wash, peel and cut potatoes into small cubes. Spray Pam in a skillet. Cook the potatoes in the skillet until they are almost done. Add the sausage and cook until brown. Add the eggs, salt and pepper. Stir and cook the mixture until the meat is completely cooked. Serve on flour tortillas and add salsa and cheese.
Eggs on a Grill
12 eggs Muffin pan Pam cooking spray Spray the muffin pan with Pam. Preheat the grill to medium high heat. Crack an egg into each hole of the muffin pan. Place pan on grill and cook for 2 minutes, or until done.
Easy Pancakes
2 cups Bisquick 1 cup milk 2 eggs Optional: 1/2 cup strawberries or blueberries Stir all ingredients until blended. Use 1/4 cup of batter for each pancake. Pour 1/4 cup batter onto a greased, heated griddle. Cook a couple minutes until bubbles begin to form on top, then turn and cook second side to a golden brown color, another couple minutes. Makes 14 pancakes.
Omelet in a Baggy
2 eggs per omelet Cheddar cheese Large Ziploc freezer bag Suggested additions of your choice: chopped tomato, chopped onions, black olives, sliced mushrooms, precooked microwave bacon Crack the eggs into a large Ziploc freezer bag. Squeeze the air out of the bag and seal it. Squeeze or shake the bag to beat the eggs. Add the rest of the ingredients to the bag. Squeeze out most of the air again and seal the bag. Boil water in a large pot. Place the bag into the boiling water and cook for 13 minutes. Open the bag in the omelet should roll out easily onto a plate.
BEEF
Hobo Dinners
1 pound hamburger One onion, sliced Four medium potatoes, cubed One can of corn (or package of frozen corn) Salt and pepper Aluminum foil (4 pieces of heavy duty foil) For each piece of foil, use a length of about 1 to 2 feet. Put the pieces of foil on a flat surface. Place of the hamburger in the center of each foil. (This recipe also works if you want to brown the hamburger first in a pan, then add it to the foil.) Add the sliced onions on top of the hamburger. Salt and pepper the hamburger. And corn on top, then the cubed potatoes. Fold the sides of the foil up as if making a tent. Take the top edges and fold them over together. Then on each end, bring together and fold the edges over together. Be sure the foil is sealed tightly. It will cook faster if it is air tight. Cook over coals 20 to 30 minutes depending on the coals. Serves four.
Meatball Goulash
1 pound hamburger 1 or 2 cans of mixed vegetables with juice 1 can tomato sauce Garlic powder Onion powder Form the hamburger into small meatballs. Brown the meatballs. Add the rest of the ingredients and cook for 15 minutes or until hot.
Quick Chili
1 pound hamburger 1 onion, chopped or onion flakes 1 can Ranch style beans 1 qt. stewed tomatoes 1 can tomato soup Salt and pepper to taste 1 teaspoon chili powder Brown the onion and hamburger together. Drain the fat and add the rest of the ingredients. Cook on medium heat, covered, for 15 to 20 minutes.
Pizzaburgers
1 pounds hamburger 1 medium onion, chopped 1 small can tomato sauce pound shredded mozzarella cheese 6 to 8 chopped olives Hamburger buns teaspoon garlic powder Oregano Salt and pepper Brown the hamburger and onion. Drain. Let cool. When cool, mix in tomato sauce and spices. Add the mozzarella cheese and chopped olives. Spoon on hamburger buns. Sprinkle lightly with oregano. Wrap each bun separately in aluminum foil. Seal foil, checking for leaks. Place on hot coals for 10 to 15 minutes per side. (or cook in 350 oven for 20 minutes in foil.)
Quick Stroganoff
1 pound hamburger 1 medium chopped onion 1 can cream of mushroom soup 1 can cream of chicken soup pint sour cream Brown hamburger and onion. Salt and pepper to taste. Drain grease. Add both cans of soup with only 1 can of water. Simmer for 20 minutes. Add the sour cream and heat through just before serving. Serve over rice or toast.
Cola Hamburgers
1 to 1 1/2 lb. ground beef 1/4 cup cola cup saltine crackers, crushed 1 egg 2 tablespoons ketchup or French dressing 2 teaspoons Parmesan cheese, grated Pam grilling spray Hamburger buns Preheat grill to medium-high heat. Spray the grill with Pam. In a bowl, mix the crackers, ketchup, cheese and the cola. Mix in the ground beef. Form into 6 patties. Grill for 15 to 20 minutes, until done.
Campground Hotdish
1 pound hamburger green pepper, chopped Onion, chopped 15 oz. can tomato sauce Couple drops of Worcestershire sauce Brown hamburger, onion and green pepper. Drain grease, add tomato sauce and Worcestershire sauce. Cook 1/2 hour or longer.
Campfire Stew
Roast, 8 ounces 1 potato 2 carrots 1 onion Can of corn, drained 1 tablespoon butter Salt and pepper Heavy duty aluminum foil Cut the potato into 1/2" squares. Slice the carrots and onion. Cut the roast into 1" pieces. On a large piece of foil, layer the roast, potatoes, corn, onion and carrots. Add salt and pepper, butter and a tablespoon of water on top. Fold edges of the tin foil together; seal the ends. Set the tin foil packet in coals or grill for an hour.
Camp Roast
1 chuck roast - 3 to 4 lbs. 2 cups barbecue sauce Potatoes Carrots Onion Peel and slice the potatoes, onion and carrots. On a large piece of heavy duty aluminum foil, pour 1 cup of the barbecue sauce. Put the roast on top of the barbecue sauce on the foil and add the other cup of barbecue sauce. Add the potatoes, onions and carrots. Wrap roast tightly and cook on grill turning every 20 minutes for approximately 2 hours.
Teriyaki Steak
4 flank steaks or beef skirt steak 2 cups teriyaki sauce Garlic powder Large Ziploc bag Cut the steak into long strips. In a Ziploc bag, add the garlic, teriyaki sauce and steak. Let marinate in the refrigerator from 2 hours to overnight, turning occasionally. Preheat grill to medium-hot. Place the steak directly on the grill to cook. Grill about 5 minutes per side.
Brisket Burritos
3 or 4 slices of barbecued beef brisket 1/4 cup onion, chopped 1 tomato, chopped 4 flour tortillas 2 tablespoons oil Shredded American cheese Salsa Heat the oil over medium heat in a skillet. Add the brisket slices and cook about 20 minutes until the meat is lightly browned. Cut off any leftover fat, cut the brisket slices into bite size pieces and return the brisket to the skillet. Add the onions and tomatoes to a skillet and cook for 3 to 5 minutes. Serve on flour tortillas with cheese and salsa.
Quick Burritos
1 pounds lean ground beef 2 cans refried beans (15 oz. cans) 1 teaspoon chili powder 1 teaspoon garlic powder Jar of salsa Serve with lettuce, shredded cheese, sour cream, flour tortillas Brown the ground beef and drain. Add a cup of salsa and cook 5 minutes. Add the refried beans, chili powder and garlic powder. Simmer for 15 minutes.
Cowboy Burger
1 1/2 pounds ground beef 1 package dry onion soup mix 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce 1 egg Salt and pepper Hamburger buns Preheat a grill to medium-high heat and spray with Pam grilling spray. Combine all ingredients in a bowl. Form into 6 patties. Place the burgers on the grill for 10 to 15 minutes. Serve with lettuce and tomato.
Charcoal Burgers
1 lb. ground beef 1/8 cup chopped onion 2 tablespoons water or milk Salt and pepper 1 can of 10 refrigerated biscuits Bottle of barbecue sauce Mix first 4 ingredients. Form into 4 to 5 patties. Place on large piece of aluminum foil that covers a charcoal grill. Broil 15 to 20 minutes, basting halfway through with barbecue sauce. Meanwhile, flatten each biscuit to size of hamburger patties. Turn hamburgers and put biscuits on the foil next to them. Bake biscuits about 3 minutes on each side. Serve hamburgers between buttered biscuits with barbecue sauce.
Taco Salad
1 pound ground beef 1 onion, chopped 3 tomatoes, chopped 1/4 cup cilantro, chopped 6 cups lettuce, torn Crushed tortilla chips 1/2 cup shredded American cheese Salsa Pam cooking spray Spray Pam cooking spray in a skillet. Cook the hamburger and onion until beef is no longer pink. Drain the fat. Stir in the tomatoes and cook for a few minutes until tomatoes are tender. Remove from heat and stir in cilantro. Layer the crushed chips on plates with the lettuce on top of chips. Add the meat mixture on top of the lettuce, top off with cheese and salsa.
CHICKEN
Chicken In Foil
4 chicken breasts 1 green pepper, chopped 10 mushrooms, chopped Can of pineapple slices Heavy duty tin foil Pam cooking spray Salt and pepper Cut 4 18" lengths of tin foil and spray them with Pam. On each of the 4 tin foils, place an equal amount of mushrooms and peppers. Add a chicken breast on top and a pineapple slice on top of that. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Fold the sides of the tin foil up and seal the edges. Place on a hot grill or coals for 15 minutes, then flip the packets over for another 15 minutes.
Chicken Hobos
4 skinless boneless chicken breasts 1 cup barbeque sauce 1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper 1 can corn, drained Heavy duty aluminum foil Cut 4 sheets of aluminum foil about 18" each. Place one chicken breast on each sheet of foil. Pour the barbeque sauce over the chicken. Add the bell pepper and corn on top. Fold up the sides of the foil and make a tent, leaving space for heat circulation. Fold the top and ends over making a sealed packet. Grill about 15 minutes, covered. Check chicken for doneness and grill longer, if needed.
TURKEY
PORK
BBQ Spareribs
2 to 3 pounds pork spareribs Barbecue sauce Salt and pepper Salt and pepper the ribs. Grill ribs, covered, over medium hot coals and indirect heat. Grill until the ribs are tender, 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Turn occasionally and baste with barbecue sauce. Add more charcoal halfway through, if necessary, to keep the grill temperature at about 325 to 350 F.
FISH
Beer Fish
Fish Fillets Cooking Oil Potato Chips Beer Pour beer into a large bowl, then place fillets into bowl and let them soak. Crush chips and set aside. Heat cooking oil in a cast iron skillet until its good and hot. Coat the fish with crushed chips and deep fry in skillet till golden brown, approximately 15 minutes.
Grilled Fish
Fish fillet Onion, sliced Tomato, sliced Lemon, sliced Heavy duty aluminum foil Pam cooking spray Salt and pepper Use an 18 piece of foil and generously spray Pam on the foil. Place the fish on the foil; salt and pepper the fish. On the fish, layer the onion slices, tomato slices, and lemon slices. Seal the foil tightly and place on a preheated grill. When the tin foil inflates from the steam, poke a small hole in the foil. Cook for 20 to 30 minutes.
Tuna Surprise
1 can tuna 2 tablespoons margarine 2 tablespoons flour 1 can tomatoes, drained teaspoon yellow mustard 1 egg, slightly beaten 1 cup grated American cheese teaspoon Worcestershire source 1 small onion, chopped fine Salt Melt butter and add seasonings, tomatoes, flour, cheese and egg. Cook for just a few minutes. Heat milk to scalding point and add to other ingredients. Then add can of tuna. Let simmer for five minutes. Serve over rice or noodles or on toast.
SIDES
Grilled Tomatoes
Two large tomatoes 1 tablespoon packaged ranch dressing mix Parmesan cheese or another shredded white cheese Pam Cooking Spray Cut the tomatoes in half. Spray Pam in a frying pan. Put the tomatoes cut side up in the frying pan. Sprinkle the Ranch salad dressing on each tomato. Add the cheese on top. Cover and cook until tomatoes are heated through.
Tomato Zucchini
1 pound zucchini, sliced 2 cans of diced tomatoes with Basil or Italian Seasonings Salt and pepper Combine sliced zucchini and tomatoes in pan and cook for about 20 minutes or until zucchini is cooked.
Potatoes in Foil
One potato per person Margarine Salt and pepper (could also add sliced onion if desired) Clean the potatoes and slice them into thick slices, leaving the peeling on. Place each potato in heavy duty aluminum foil. Add a tablespoon of margarine and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Seal the foil tightly and cook, grill for about 1 hour. Turn the potato packages often.
Corn in Foil
2 ears of corn Margarine Salt and pepper Remove all the husks except the last layer. Also remove the silk. Pull the remaining husks back and spread the margarine on the corn. Add salt and pepper. Pull the husks back over the corn and tightly wrap them with foil. Place on hot coals for 15 minutes then turn and cook for 15 more minutes. Serves two.
Easy Chili
One can of chili with beans One can tomato soup One can bean and bacon soup 1 1/2 cups water Combine all ingredients and simmer for 15 minutes.
Campground Chili
1 cup lentils 1 tablespoon cumin 3 tablespoons tomato soup powder 1 teaspoon oregano 1 clove garlic 1 tablespoon chili powder 1 tablespoon onion flakes Salt and pepper 4 cups water Combine all the ingredients and simmer 30 to 45 minutes.
Grilled Mushrooms
1/2 pound whole mushrooms 1/4 cup butter 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt Place the mushrooms on skewers. Melt the butter and add the garlic salt. Grill mushrooms over medium-high heat for 10 to 15 minutes, brushing with the butter and salt mixture and turning periodically.
Roasted Corn
2 ears of corn 1/4 cup mayonnaise 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder 1/4 teaspoon paprika 1/4 teaspoon parsley flakes Salt and pepper Heavy duty aluminum foil Preheat grill to medium heat. Combine the mayonnaise, garlic powder, paprika, parsley flakes, salt and pepper in a bowl. Remove the husks and silk from the ears of corn. Spread the mayonnaise mixture over corn. Wrap each ear of corn separately in foil. Grill, covered, for 30 to 40 minutes or until corn is tender.
Sauted Zucchini
2 small zucchini 2 tablespoons of margarine Salt and pepper With a sharp knife, cut each zucchini crosswise into thirds, then cut each into eight wedges. Over medium heat, melt margarine in a small skillet. When margarine is very hot, add zucchini, salt and pepper. Cook, stirring constantly, until tender crisp, about 5 minutes.
Biscuit Twisters
Refrigerated bread stick dough Milk or water Honey or jelly Unwrap each bread stick and roll it between your palms. Then twist the dough around the end of a stick (soak stick in water first so it doesnt burn). Hold the stick over hot coals until cooked, rotating constantly. Dip into honey or spread with jelly.
PIZZA
Mini Pizzas
1 can refrigerate biscuits 2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded 1 cup pizza sauce Pepperoni and other toppings Heavy duty aluminum foil Pam cooking spray Preheat grill to medium-high heat. Roll each biscuit into a 6 inch round piece of dough. Spray a 12 piece of aluminum foil with Pam cooking spray. One sheet will hold 2 mini-pizzas. Place 2 of the pizza dough in the center of the tin foil, leaving 3 at the top and bottom of the tin foil. Bend the excess foil up so you can grab the tin foil by the edge handles. Place on grill and cook covered for about 2 to 5 minutes. Watch carefully. When the bottom is lightly browned, remove the dough from the grill by the tin foil handles. Flip each mini pizza over, and put back on the grill for about another 2 minutes or so. Remove from grill and add pizza sauce and toppings. Place back on the grill and cook, covered, for 3 to 8 minutes.
HOT DOGS
Beanie Wienies
One can of baked beans Two hot dogs Two hot dog buns Barbecue sauce Aluminum foil (1 piece of heavy duty foil for each hot dog) Place each hot dog on a separate piece of aluminum foil. Spread barbecue sauce on each hot dog. Add baked beans on top of hot dogs. Wrap tightly and place on hot coals. When heated, place the contents of the aluminum foil on a hot dog bun.
DESSERTS
Campfire Apples
1 apple 1 tablespoon brown sugar teaspoon cinnamon Mix the brown sugar and cinnamon in a bowl. Core the apple. Spoon the mixture into the center. Wrap the apple in aluminum foil. Place on hot coals for 15 to 20 minutes per side.
Baked Bananas
6 firm bananas 1/2 cup brown sugar 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon Skewers With the peeling on the bananas, cut the bananas in 1 inch slices. Mix the brown sugar and cinnamon together. Dip each cut end of the bananas in the brown sugar mixture. Thread the bananas on skewers. Hold over coals until hot and the banana peel turns brown. Dip the bananas in the remaining brown sugar mixture to eat.
Grilled Peaches
4 large peaches 2 teaspoons honey Pam grilling spray Cut the peaches in half, remove the peach pits. Set the peaches so the cut side is up and lightly spray cut side with Pam cooking spray. Preheat the grill to medium heat. Spray the grill with Pam grilling spray. Put the peaches on the grill, cut side down and cook about 2 minutes until the skin splits. Flip the peaches and cook for about 2 more minutes. Remove from grill and drizzle each peach with 1/4 teaspoon of honey.
Cinnamon Apples
1/4 cup red cinnamon candies 4 teaspoons brown sugar 4 tart apples cored Heavy duty aluminum foil Place one cored apple in center of a 12 inch piece of foil. Fill the center with 1 tablespoon of red cinnamon candies and 1 teaspoon brown sugar. Fold the foil tightly over the apple and seal well. Grill over medium hot heat for 30 minutes or until apples are tender.
Chocolate Bananas
1 banana 1/2 chocolate bar or chocolate chips Marshmallows Heavy duty aluminum foil Make a cut in the banana from one end to the other leaving the banana peel on. Pry the banana open a little and insert chocolate and marshmallows. If using a chocolate bar, break it into tiny pieces. Wrap the banana in foil and place on a grill or hot coals. Cook for 10 minutes or until chocolate is melted.
Smores
Hershey bars Graham crackers Marshmallows Coat hangers or skewers Break one graham cracker in half. Cover one of the graham crackers with part of a Hershey bar. Roast 2 marshmallows on a skewer over the fire until soft. Then place the marshmallows on top of the Hershey bar and cover with the other graham cracker.
Apples in Foil
4 apples, peeled and cored 1/2 cup nuts cup shredded coconut Raisins 1 cup brown sugar Be careful not to cut through one end of the apple when coring. After peeling and coring the apples, place them on separate pieces of heavy duty aluminum foil. Fill the apple centers (the hole) with nuts, coconut and raisins. Sprinkle generously with brown sugar. Fold the foil around each apple tightly. Place in coals and cook for 20 to 40 minutes. Serves four.
MISCELLANEOUS
Campfire Popcorn
2 tablespoons oil 2 tablespoon popcorn kernels Heavy duty aluminum foil Butter, melted Salt Use an 18 length of foil and put the oil and popcorn in the center. Gather the corners of the foil together, making a loose pouch with lots of room for expansion, sealing well. Tie the foil packet to a long stick with string. Place the pouch over hot coals, shaking continually until all the popcorn pops. Add butter and salt when finished.
Frito Pie
Fritos Lettuce chopped Cheddar cheese, shredded Can of chili without beans Onions, diced Heat the chili. Arrange fritos on a plate. Add the chili on top of the fritos. Then add the lettuce, cheese and onions.
Chili-Cheese Dip
Can of Hormel Chili cup sharp cheese, shredded Heat the chili. Let stand at back of grill I0 to I5 minutes until some of liquid has evaporated. Blend in the cheese. Stir until cheese is melted. Use as dip for chips, veggies or use corn or flour tortillas to dip.
Sun Tea
4 Family size tea bags 1 gallon of water Use a glass gallon container with a screw-on lid. (The screw-on lid is to keep ants out.) Fill with water and add the 4 tea bags. Let the container sit in the sun for about 6 hours. Serve with lemon and sugar.
Campers Coffee
3/4 cup sugar 1 cup powdered non-dairy creamer 3/4 cup instant coffee 3/4 cup instant hot chocolate 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon Mix all ingredients together and put in sealed jar. This would be best to make at home before camping. Use 3 teaspoons of the coffee mixture with 1 cup of hot water, more or less to taste.
