Situaciones permanentes
Cuando queremos decir que algo le pertenece a alguien, generalmente agregamos : s a un sustantivo singular o simplemente un apostrofe : ( ) a un sustantivo cuya escritura termine en la letra s. Por ejemplo:
the boy's ball (one boy) the boys' ball (two or more boys)
Date cuenta que no interesa el nmero de cosas que se posee, sino la o las personas que poseen.
one ball
one boy
Possessive s puede ser utilizado con toda una frase, por ejemplo:
the man next door's mother (the mother of the man next door) the Queen of England's poodles (the poodles of the Queen of England)
Aunque podemos usar la preposicin of para indicar posesin , lo ideal y ms comn entre los hablantes nativos es utilizar el posesivo s. Por ejemplo: the boyfriend of my sister my sister's boyfriend
La segunda expression es la ms comn y est mejor empleado, por lo general utilizamos of cuando hablamos de pertenencia a un objeto o animal. The leg of the table. The tail of the cat.
This is Mary's car. Where is Ram's telephone? Who took Anthony's pen? I like Tara's hair.
Irregular Plurals
Some nouns have irregular plural forms without s (man > men). To show possession, we usually add 'sto the plural form of these nouns: singular noun my child's dog the man's work plural noun my children's dog the men's work
