NOTES FROM THE NUNDA VILLAGE BOARD
Fall Safety Tips Part 2
To simplify home safety measures this season, the Nunda Police Department
offers the following fall safety tips:
CLEAR THE AREA: Make sure the area around your furnace is clear for
good air circulation. Keep all fammable materials, such as clothing, card-
board boxes, paint thinners, fuels and solvents, far away from the furnace.
NEVER HEAT WITH AN OVEN: On chilly autumn mornings, avoid the
temptation to warm the kitchen with a gas range or an open oven door.
The unvented products of combustion can quickly build to toxic levels.
WATCH SPACE HEATERS: Be cautious with portable heaters or space
heaters, making sure to follow manufacturer instructions for safe venting
and use. Place them at least three feet away from any combustibles, such
as wallpaper, bedding, draperies, clothing and furniture. Never leave them
operating when you are away from the room or asleep. Dont leave children
or pets unattended with space heaters, and never use them to dry clothing,
shoes or mittens.

SPEAK OUT
The above articles are editorial opinions and do not necessarily
represent the views of the Mount Morris Shopper, its management
and staff, or the Mount Morris Shopper advertisers.
Dear Speak Out,
A year ago I put a purchase offer on a house in Mount
Morris. In order for the mortgage lender to process the loan
application home owners insurance must be purchased and
declared to the lender.
Once again I am dealing with a collapsed lateral sewer line
in Mount Morris. The seller was advised of the problem by the
Village prior to putting the house on the market. Many entities
were aware of the problem except the buyer.
Had the seller and real estate agency been up front about
the problem, the home owner insurance could have been pur-
chased with a rider for a sewer backup in the basement. The
home inspection done prior to closing does not include sewer
and sewer line connection. This presents itself as a dirty se-
cret and terrible surprise.

HAVE A R-ACHING BACK?
Avoid twisting your body while raking.
Use your legs to shift your weight rather than
twisting your back. Throwing leaves over the
shoulder or to the side while raking can strain
the muscles in the back. Call now to schedule
a massage to ease those aching muscles.

NOTICE
The Village of Mount Morris has been experiencing sporadic coloring issues with our water
service. This issue has been sporadic and spotty over the last several months, not isolated
to any one specifc area in the Village. We believed we had the problem under control a
month or so ago, but are now having recurring issues. The issue comes and goes in different
parts of our delivery system. Some locations have recurring problems while others have no
problems. Our water and streets departments personnel, along with chemists, County and
State health department offcials and engineers, our Village engineer, Town offcials from
Mount Morris and Leicester, and offcials from our independent testing labs are all working
daily to identify the causes and how to solve the issue once and for all. We assure you that
our water is safe to use. Our water is tested daily at multiple delivery points for safety. It has
been explained to us that this is a sight issue, not a safety issue. On Thursday, October 3, 2013
all the above mentioned offcials met to get resolution to this problem once and for all, and
develop plans to prevent it from re-occuring. We understand the inconvenience this may
cause some people, and again, are working daily to solve this issue. We will keep you updated
on our progress as we work through this. Thank you for your understanding and patience.

Doctor in the House
By Ahsen Sheikh, M.D.
Diplomate, American Board of Internal Medicine
ANEMIA
Basically, there are two components that make up blood. The first is a liquid
called plasma, and the second is the cellular part made up of red and white blood
cells and platelets. Anemia is a condition in which the number of red blood cells
found in the blood is lower than it should be. The body needs vitamins, minerals,
and nutrients in order to make enough red blood cells. An anemic persons body
might be short on nutrients due to a disease of the stomach lining, poor diet, a
slow blood loss, or surgery. Medications, immune system problems, pregnancy,
and bone marrow problems can also cause anemia. Symptoms include weakness,
headaches, trouble concentrating, and feelings of grumpiness.
Blood tests will not only confirm the diagnosis of anemia, but also may
help point to the underlying condition. Your doctor will not treat your anemia
until the underlying cause has been established. For more information or to
schedule an appointment, please call GENESIS INTERNAL MEDICINE at
(585) 243-5109 or visit us at 50 East South St., Suite 600, Geneseo.
P.S. Severe anemia can lead to low oxygen levels in vital organs and can cause
a heart attack.

With Your Kids
Review these important tips for a healthy smile
with your child, and see us twice a year for a
full dental exam and professional cleaning.
We provide expert care with an understanding
approach that puts young patients at ease.
Brush for a full 2 to 3 minutes at least twice a day.
Gently foss at least once a day. Ask a dentist or dental hygienist
to demonstrate proper fossing technique for your child.
When brushing, hold the toothbrush at a 45-degree angle against
the gum line, and gently brush the entire tooth in short strokes.
Gently brush the tongue and roof of the mouth using a
forward-sweeping motion.
