The Fountain of Fair Fortune High on a hill in an enchanted garden, enclosed by tall walls and protected by by strong magic

, flowed the Fountain of Fair Fortune. Once a year, between the hours of sunrise and sunset on the longest day, a single unfortunate was given the chance to fight their way to the Fountain, bathe in its water and receive Fair Fortune for evermore. On the appointed day , hundreds of people travelled from all over the Kingdom to reach the garden walls before dawn. Male and female, rich and poor, young and old, of magical means or without, they gathered on the darkness each hoping they would be the one to gain entrance in the garden. Three witches, each with her burden of woe, met on the outside of crowd and told one another their sorrows as the waited for sunrise. The first, by name Asha, was sick of malady no healer could cure. She hoped that the Fountain would barrish her symptoms and grant her a long happy life. The second by name Athelda, had been robbed of her home, her gold and her wand by a evil sorcerer. She hoped the Fountain might relieve her powerless and poverty. The third by name Amata, had been deserted by a man whom she loved dearly, and she thought her heart would never mend. She hope that the Fountain would relieve her of her grief and longing. Pitying each other, the three women agreed to unite and try to reach the Fountain together. The sky was rent by the first ray of sun andf the chink in the wall opened. The creepers twisted Asha, she gasped the wrist of Athelda, and Athelda seized tight to Amata, but Amata caught upon by arm of a knight. Asha and Athelda were angry with Amata. Only one can bathe in the Fountain. It will be hard enough to decide wich one of us will be, without adding another! The knight names was Sir Luckless and he had no magic and great skill. It made Amata angry, Drag your sword and helps us reach our goals! On their path to the Fountain and faced the first challenge. It came from giant worm that demands Pay me the proof of you pain . The spells, sword , rocks could not make the Worm moved. The sun rose and Asha began to cry. The Worm placed its face upon Asha and drank her tears and vanished into a hole in the ground. Half way up the steep slope the found the inscription in the ground before them. Pay me the fruit of your labours . The three witches and knight and three knights continued to climb, but they advanced not a step, the summit came no nearer. Everyone felt tired but only Athelda walked faster and harder than

any of them. Courage friends, do not yield!. As the drops of her sweat, the inscription vanished and they could continue their way. Before they could reach the Fountain, they came to a stream that barring their way. In the depths of clear water lay a stone bearing words : Pay me the treasure of your past. Sir Luckless tried to across the stream on his shield, but it sank. After several times discussed, Amata understood . She took her wand and drew from her mind all over the memories with her lover. Amata dropped them to the stream and the stream swept away. Then they reached the Fountain of Fair Fortune. But Asha who was sick of malady collapsed. Athelda helped Asha by gave the mix of herbs from the garden. At once, asha was able to stand, I am cured, I have no need to the Fountain- let Athelda bathe! But Athelda was busy collecting more herbs. She said, If I can cure this disease. I shall earn gold aplenty! Let Amata Bathe! Amata also refuse to bathe in the Fountain because of the stream washed away all her regret for her lover and it was happiness enough to be without him. She said to Sir Lucless, You must bathe, as reward for all your chivalry! As the sun fell below the horizon, Sir Luckless emerged from the Fountain. He flinged himself at Amatas feet and asked for her heart which she happily gives. Finally everyone got an answer to their own problem. None of them ever knew or suspected that the Fountains water carried no enchantment at all.
