FallStewardshipCampaignItsTimetoRethinkGiving
During October, we will be having our annual parishwide conversation about Stewardship concluding with Commitment Sunday on November 3rd. The theme of this years campaign is, Its Time to Rethink Giving. Pledge cards will be mailed the week of October 21. One of our objectives this fall will be to focus on the message that God loves us, and all that we have comes from God with the recognition that our pledge is merely a symbol of that awareness. We will also discuss our important mission here at St. Johns and the return on faith your dollars generate, as part of a faith-based conversation that discusses why we give and how it can move us closer to the life and practice of Jesus. Shopping Cards
An Easy Way to Help
Now Available for Immediate Purchase $100 Stop & Shop Cards
When you buy shopping/gift cards through St. Johns, you are making a contribution that does not cost you financially. It may take a little planning. Orders are taken the 1st and 3rd Sundays, and cards are delivered on the 2nd and 4th Sundays. Order forms are available in the narthex and parish hall and can be placed in the lockbox at any time. In order to encourage the habit of using cards, we are starting to have a card of the month with double percentage value to the church. As we get back into the swing of things, the Stop & Shop cards will be the extra value card for September.
A Way to Participate in Worship Provide the Flowers October 20th & November 3rd Available
You could have the office order flowers, which costs $50 for a Sunday. Or you are more than welcome to bring flowers from your garden. This is a way to beautify our worship and to honor some person or event in your life. We try to distribute the flowers to those who would appreciate them after the service. Call or email the office to make arrangements.

news from
Church School began this year with a great Sunday of Godly Play. We had many faces return from last year and two new families. Our children heard a story about the Holy Family which begins each year and season. We then spent our work time exploring our new environment. Our storytellers, doorkeepers, and children, are very excited about this new program and we all wish to thank those involved in making this happen either by: purchasing a story piece, creating

beautiful handmade pieces, or jumping in to learn storytelling or door keeping. All involved are positive about the experience. We are still looking for a few donations for this fall and winter. If you would be willing to help, please contact Linda Snyder at (860) 738-9029 or see her on Sunday. Once again members of the parish, led by Tom Chappell, cooked burgers and breakfast sandwiches. They raised $450, which is shared between ministry at St. Johns and ministry in the world.
Linda Snyder worked hard to get the Godly Play Room set up with bookshelves and sets of pieces to help tell the story. Students listened to Linda tell the story. Then they could work with various sets in the room. You may think the group on the left is just playing with a sandbox. Oh, no! They are creating a montage in the desert. And the group on the right is being helped by doorkeeper Candy Flaherty to consider Gods time as we understand it. Of course, it wouldnt be opening day without a luncheon.
