STORAGE AND HANDLING A. Store doors upright, in a protected dry area, at least 25 mm or more above ground or floor and at least 6 mm between individual pieces. All hollow metal doors and hollow metal frames shall have a metal tag with the door number thereon.

PART 2 PRODUCTS 2.01 MATERIALS A. Hot-Rolled Steel Sheets and Strip; Commercial quality carbon steel, pickled and oiled, complying with ASTM A 569 and ASTM A 568. Cold-Rolled Steel Sheets: Commercial quality carbon steel, complying with ASTM A 366 and ASTM 1 568. Galvanized Steel Sheets : Zinc-coated carbon steel sheets of commercial quality, complying with ASTM A 525, G60 zinc coating, mill phosphatized. Supports and Anchors: Fabricate of not less than 18 gage galvanized steel. Fire assembly as required in UBC 4306.

ROLL-UP DOOR (MANUAL) Roll-up Doors must be designed to be attractive, long lasting and easy to operate. Doors must be made of continuous aluminum zinc alloy coated steel sheet and jointed together by a lockseam process. Delivery of doors shall include guides, axle, springs, curtain and weather stripping for the sides and bottom. The door must be chain operated with crank shaft.

Material Specifications : Curtain shall be 0.50 mm base thickness to AS 1397. The sheets shall have a press formed profile depth of 21 mm. The joined sheets will form continuous curtain to the door height required. Curtain Finish be Zinc-coated, off-White, Cedar Brown, or weathered Copper. Running Strips shall consist of flexible steel strips riveted to the face of each vertical edge of the curtain and will include nylon slide clips fitted at each press formed curtain corrugation. Bottom Rail shall be a 50 mm x 50 mm x 3 mm zinc coated steel angle riveted to the inside of the bottom sheet. In lieu of the steel bottom rail, an extruded aluminium bottom rail complete with P.V.C weather seal can be fitted. High Wind Guides shall consist of an extruded natural anodized aluminum guide section in lieu of the 50 mm steel guide section. Steel clips shall be fitted to the external face of the curtain and will form an interlock with the guide section. Slips shall be fitted in frequency according to the wind rating requirement. Where clips are not fitted to a certain flat, a nylon slide clip shall be fitted. These will necessitate the flexible steel strips to be fitted. Axle, Spring and Drum Assembly: The axle shall be a steel pipe 37 mm O.D. x 4.5 Mm wall thickness. The springs shall be tempered helical torsion springs made of carbon steel which are clamped the axle. The drum wheels are made from 3 mm mild steel. Brackets shall be welded from 5 mm and 6.5 mm mild steel angle section. Locking shall be by an internal waist high slide bolt. Other locking options include an external waist high slide bolt, a bottom rail 4 point slide bolt or a centrally mounted key lock. Door size shall be as per Bill of Quantities. 2.03 SLIDE DOORS (MANUAL) Slide doors must be designed such that quick assembly and ease of operation could be attained. Slide doors should be standard and horizontal sliding, left or right direction as indicated on the drawings. The door framings shall be galvanized cold formed channels with 34.5 KN/CM2 yield strength with a minimum thickness of 2.0 mm and should be delivered know down for field assembly. The door leaf shall be sheeted with 0.50 mm galvanized pre-painted panels matching the color of the walls. Interior liner panels must be provided and shall be 0.50 mm thick standard low-rib profile matching the color of the interior wall facing. Hood trims shall be 0.50 mm and shall be frost-white or aztec brown material. The sliding door shall be suspended from a trolley rail track made out of 1.50 mm thick galvanized steel attached to a hot rolled angle header and guided at the bottom. The trolley track shall have four wheels and a tract body. The truck body shall be made from one piece galvanized steel casting. The wheel axles shall be mounted on hardened steel roller bearings. Field assembly and installation of single slide door shall be in accordance with the erection drawings and instruction issued by Zamil Steel. General : Provide hollow metal frames, including glazing stops and reinforcement, of various profiles to suit conditions detailed on the Drawings and constructed of new prime quality, hot-rolled carbon steel. Exterior frames shall be fabricated from zinc-coated sheet chemically treated after fabrication for optimum paint adhesion. Frames : Provide frames that have all construction joints welded full depth and width, or weld equivalent splice plates on unexposed faces of frames. Exposed surfaces of welded joints shall be dressed to produce invisible connections. Reinforcements and stiffeners shall be welded to inside surfaces of frames. Construction : The finished work shall be strong and of rigid construction neat in appearance and free from warp and buckle. Members shall be clean cut, straight and true. Miters shall be well formed and in true alignment. Fastenings shall be concealed where practicable. Guards and Boxes : Provide 22 gage steel plaster guards or motor boxes, welded to the frames at the back of all finish hardware, cut outs and reinforcements. Plaster guards and motor boxes shall be of same material as frame.

Rubber Silencer : Where scheduled single door frames shall be punched and provided with 3 rubber silencers. Double door frame shall be punched to receive 2 silencers similarly provided. Ship silencers loose for installation after final painting. Anchors : 1. Anchor frame in masonry construction with adjustable, flat, corrugated or perforated, T-shaped anchors to suite frame size with leg not less than 50 mm wide by 250 mm long. Furnish at least 3 anchors per jamb up to 2200 mm in height; 5 anchors up to 2400 mm jamb height; one additional anchor each 600 m or fraction thereof over 2400 mm height. Anchor frame in metal stud partitions as specified for masonry constructions above as regards size and spacing of anchors. In open steel stud partitions, place studs in wall anchor notches and wire tie. In closed steel stud partitions attach wall anchors to studs with tapping screws. Anchor frame in concrete wall by means of expansion shields and flat-head machine screws. Screw heads shall be counter-sunk in soffit of jamb. Machine screws shall be 8 mm by minimum 75 mm long of cadmium plated steel with 8 mm by minimum 45 mm malleable iron or steel expansion shell. Reinforce jamb at each expansion screw location with 7 gage by 40 mm wide steel fitting into inside of stop and welded to backbends. Anchors shall be lcoated not more than 150 mm from top and bottom of each jamb with intermediate anchors spaced at a maximum of 600 mm on center. Frames set at grade shall be furnished with angular base anchor of steel at each jamb 40 mm by jamb depth less 3 mm. Jamb leg shall be furnished with 2 holes for power driven attachment to floor.

2.05

HOLLOW METAL DOORS A. Exterior Doors : Fabricate exterior hollow metal doors of 16 gage zinc-coated bonderized sheet steel. Construction : 1. Doors shall have continuous internal reinforcing channels or zshaped members of 16 gage steel, full height of door, spaced not more than 150 mm on center and spot welded to face sheets 75 mm on center. Doors with continuous truss inner core, full height and width, spot welded to face sheets 3 in. on center both vertically and horizontally shall also be acceptable. Provide 24 gage stile channels and 14 gage horizontal stiffener at top and bottom of doors welded to face sheets. All hollow metal portions of doors shall be filled completely with mineral rock wool or equal. Exposed joints shall be fully welded, filled and ground smooth. Interlocking joints or seams are not approved on faces or edges. Provide single swing doors with not more than 3 mm clearance at jambs and heads and not more than 6 mm clearance at meeting edges of pair doors. Doors shall have a 3 mm in 50 mm bevel on the strike side.

Caps : Exterior doors shall have flush top and bottom caps sealing against water. Caps shall be of the same gage and material as face sheets. Reinforcement: Provide reinforcement for finish hardware as follows : 1. Reinforcement for butts shall be 7 gage thick by 250 mm long and 6 mm narrower than the thickness of the door. Reinforcing plates for closers, holders, stops and checks shall be 7 gage thick by template requirements as to length and width. Reinforcement for locks and escutcheons shall be box type of 14 gage steel, with spring leaf contacts for lock cases. Reinforcement for exit devices and mortises or surface applied hardware shall be minimum 12 gate and by template requirements as to length and width.

Tolerances : Provide door panels that are free from buckles, twists or other imperfections. Do not use panels having a buckle exceeding 60 mil. As determined by a straight edge applied to the face of the panel.

SHOP FINISH A. Carry out shop finishing of hollow metal doors and hollow metal doors and hollow metal frames as follows: 1. 2. Fill door edges with mineral filler to conceal seams. Chemically treat non-galvanized, non-bonderized metal surfaces with a phosphate compound to assure maximum paint adherence. Thoroughly clean all metal surfaces of all rust, scale, grease, rough spots and other foreign matter which may prevent proper paint adhesion. Apply dip or spray coat of rust-inhibitive metallic oxide zinc chromed or synthetic resin primer on all surfaces of frames and on all exposed surfaces of frames and on all exposed surfaces of doors and panels. Primer shall be baked on in accordance with manufacturers recommendations for developing maximum hardiness and resistance to abrasion. Primed surfaces shall be smooth and suitable to receive the finish coats.

GLASS VISION PANEL A. 6.7 mm thick tempered or clear glass vision panel shall be provided for some hollow metal doors as shown on the door schedule.

THRESHOLDS A. Provide thresholds where indicated and required. Refer to Section 10000Finish Hardware for product and installation requirements.

2.09

HARDWARE PREPARATION A. General : Hollow metal doors and hollow metal frames shall be prepared at the manufacturers plant for all hardware in accordance with templates furnished and shall be drilled and tapped to receive hardware as indicted on the hardware templates. Preparation shall conform to the requirements of ANSI A 115.1 and ANSI A 151.1. Mortises and Concealed Hardware : Mortise, reinforce, drill and tap for all mortises and concealed hardware. Locations : Locate hardware as shown on the drawings and conform to standards established by the National Builders Hardware Association, the Steel Door Institute, the Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association and adopted ANSI Standards. Hardware : For Hardware and weather stripping items refer to Section 09100 Hardware & Accessories.

PART 3 EXECUTION 3.01 INSPECTION A. Examine accepted hardware schedules and verify proper coordination of hardware, doors and frames. Examine opening locations and verify following : 1. 2. Correctness of dimensions, backing or support conditions. Absence of defects that would adversely affect frame or door installation.

Do not start work until unsatisfactory conditions are corrected.

INSTALLATION A. Install frames level, plumb and square with anchors and inserts accurately located. Use only metal shims to level frames. Metal spreaders on frames to set in concrete shall remain in place. Metal spreaders on frames set at finish floor level shall not be removed until frames are securely anchored in place with permanent anchors. Furnish and install steel channel reinforcement from floor to slab above when double leaf doors exceed 1.82 m in width on metal stud and plaster walls. The CONTRACTOR shall furnish and install the required reinforcing angles to support lead lined frames, where required. Install doors accurately in their respective frames and in a manner to achieve the intended functional operation and appearance. Do all drilling and tapping of doors and frames as required for surface applied hardware.

3.03

ADJUST AND CLEAN A. Final Adjustment : Check and readjust operating finish hardware items in hollow metal work. Remove and replace defective work, including doors or frames which are warped, bowed and defective. Finish Painting : For finish painting, comply with specified requirements of Section 013000 Painting.

PROTECTION A. After erection, protect doors and frames from damage due to installation of other work or from lime, acid, cement or other harmful compounds.

3.05

LOUVER DOORS Louver Door shall conform to manufacturers standard for hollow metal doors. Slats shall be made of aluminum or metal slats not less than thick. A center mullion shall be provided for flat slat lowers 24 inches or more in width. Doors shall be adequately blocked to provide solid anchorage for the louvers. END OF DIVISION
