EXCEL helps solve four issues: 1. Minimize patient exposure, particularly male infants, to the potentially harmful PVC plasticizer, DEHP. 2. Avoid hanging breakable glass over patients because EXCEL is compatible with many drugs known to be incompatible with PVC. 3. Reduce potential for needlesticks and inadvertent contamination while making medication additions. 4. Minimize environmental impact from disposal of IV bags.

Removing the Overwrap

Medication Administration
The rubber stopper of the EXCEL container is latex-free and can be removed for double spiking.

Spiking the Bag

The safer DEHP-free material may require additional force to spike the bag.

Additional Information
Option a) Hold rigid saddle. Insert the spike into the IV bag by using a back and forth twisting motion.

B. Braun Pressure Cuff

Do not exceed 300mm Hg pressure. Suspend the pressure administration cuff by strap, not by the hanger tab of the EXCEL IV container.

Step 1. Remove the overwrap by starting a tear at any of the depressions on the notched edge. Step 2. Tear the overwrap by running your index nger through the seam of the overwrap.

The medication port can be safely punctured ve times with up to an 18 G needle. Remove set port cover by lifting ring with the thumb and forenger and rolling down. Option b) Hold the set port.Insert the spike into the IV bag by using a back and forth twisting motion.

Linear polymer makes the overwrap easy to open

Reduce the potential for the container lm getting pinched by placing the container in the carrier on its side and performing a visual check.
