Headmasters Corner
Well done to the whole school for such a successful Paired Reading morning on Wednesday. I know the children thoroughly enjoyed it and we look forward to the next one. Congratulations to all of our teams who played this week but a special mention should go the Girls Under 11 and Under 9 teams who repeated last weeks success with another two wins on Wednesday. With this being the first Exeat of the term, Effort and Achievement Grades have been issued to children in the Upper School. These grades will no longer be placed on the notice boards in the Back Lobby but will now be sent home with the children in envelopes marked for your attention. I know the children would love to share their grade cards with you so please check their bags just in case it has slipped their mind! The Friends have been busy organising a fun quiz night on 12th October. Please contact the office to buy you tickets. Thank you to all the Nursery staff and parents who attended last nights meeting. Have an enjoyable Exeat weekend.

End of Spring Term

Please note that Spring Term 2014 will now finish on Friday 28th March at 12 noon, a week later than previously published. An email has been sent to all parents regarding this.

National Poetry Day

It is National Poetry Day on Thursday October 3rd and we are really looking forward to it. Children will be able to hear their teachers being poetic all day long; can take part in the Poetry Trail Quiz at lunchtime; can read and listen to poems in the library; will enjoy poems in assembly; will illustrate poems in prep and will write their own poems for a school anthology. We would also like to make a display of favourite or well-loved poems. Please send poems in by email, photocopied or hand-written and we will get them up on display.

U9 Girls Hockey
The U9 girls hockey tournament on Saturday 5th October is now at Dean Close. There will be notes in planners for the girls who are selected to attend. Please can parents sign the notes and return them to the Form Teachers.

Breakfast
If you want to sign your child in for breakfast please advise the office or the house parents the previous day. We have had children turning up for breakfast who have not been expected. Please email admin@tockingtonmanorschool.com or houseparents@tockingtonmanorschool.com.

Soap Making Parties

Are you interested in a creative and fun hands-on party making bubble bath, bath bombs, lip balm and soap? A mobile party leader can come to your home or venue and run a session with the children, making beautiful and practical gifts to take home. If you are interested please ring Karina on 07595 350764.

Cross Country
Shoes/Spikes Please could you ensure that your child has a pair of cross country shoes/spikes that fit. You may be able to find some in the Nearly New Shop as we have had a few pairs back in recently. Years 5-8 Performances of the week were from the following children: Ceredig Jones, the only runner to improve his/her time list time this week with an excellent 8 minutes 39 seconds on the Junior Course; Adrian Ng improved his best by 3 minutes; Alex Boulton lowered his PB by 2 minutes and Aditi Mehendale improved by over a minute. Other notable performances were from Alex Grocott, Adassa Walker, Ellie Parker, Antonia Hopcraft-Guest, George Symonds, Ben Orchard, Amy Horler, Dalis Jones, Abigail Blackwell and Angus Duncan. Years 3 & 4 Another excellent week! We achieved our department target with all the Years 3 and 4 runners finishing below five minutes. All the children received three stars for this. There were many good performances from the athletes including Rhea Fernandez and Jeanne Veron improving by 55 and 32 seconds respectively. Toby Gaulton improved his time by 36 seconds. Harry Mather, Otis Walker, Freddie Cooper and Archie Symonds all improved their list times. Jai Patels run was the performance of the week, gaining entry on to the list for the first time with an outstanding time of 3 minutes 17 seconds. Next week it must be Iona Campbells turn; she ran well but missed the list by one second!

Dont Forget! Clothes for a Cause

As mentioned last week, the FOTM are having another Clothes for a Cause collection the week beginning Monday 14th October. Any good quality clothes, shoes, belts and handbags can be left in any type of plastic bag in the lobby (where the signing in desk used to be) up to the morning of 17th October when they will be collected. Soft toys and books can be put in separate bags if you want to re-home any of those as well but we get paid different amounts so they must be bagged up separately. We made over 100 last collection it would be nice to make over 200 this time, with money going towards two projects revamping the Adventure Playground and getting a free flow area for the Lower School up and running. Please have a good clear out! Bags and leaflets will be available the week before the collection.

Tockington Titbits
Larry Williamson and Henry Allan-Jones told a member of staff in confidence that Mr Symonds will never beat them around the Senior Cross Country Course! All of Year 3 made the most delicious Shade & Tone Ice-cream paintings in Art - come and have a look! Superstar - Jake Wakeling Ambassadors - Pedro Botella, Oliver Shutt and Harry Mather Boarder of the week - Eugenia Paz Nunez & AdrianNg Jeanne Veron passed her Grade 1 ballet exam with Distinction. Miss Fox passed her Grade 5 tap exam. Mr Tovey fell in the sea while on a sailing trip and waterlogged his phone.

Milkshake Monday Morning

On Monday we have our first Milkshake Monday Morning with Year 1 spending some of their break-time in the library looking at and borrowing books, drinking milkshakes and eating biscuits. We are hoping that they will really enjoy this event which will take place twice a year for each year group right up to Year 8. Tutors and class teachers will enjoy browsing with the children and chatting about books informally. We also have our new stock of books from the Library Services - 150 lovely new books which are being put on the shelf even as we speak. We have some great volunteers who help in the library: Mrs Edwards, Mrs Williams, Mrs Patel and Mrs Baglin, with Ms Solomon just starting as a link for parents to visit and borrow from the library with their children at home-time. We are very grateful to all of these helpers who give so much. Sally will be opening the library on : Tuesday 8th, 15th and 22nd October between 3.15 and 3.45 pm. Do please come along and make this a success. We have lots of great books for the Lower School and nice, comfy beanbags to sit on. Judith Case
