Code Name Issued by Revision Horizontal Base Shear Indonesian Earthquake Code Ministry of Public Works

where Wt: Combination of the total vertical dead load and the reduced vertical live load C: Basic seismic coefficient (Note: This value shall be determined from Fig.1 for the seismic zones shown in Fig.2 using the structural period and the types of subsoil.) I: Importance factor (See table 1) K: Structure type factor (See table 2) The types of subsoil The types of subsoil are considered in selection of C firm and soft. For the purpose of this code a structure shall be considered as being on a soft subsoil if it is located on soil deposits exceeding the following depths. For a cohesive soil with an average undrained shear strength not exceeding. 5kg per sq.cm. (50 kPa) : 6m Any site where the overlying soils are either cohesive with an average undrained shear strength not exceeding 1kg per sq.ca. (100 kPa) or a very dense granular material : 9m For a cohesive soil with an average undrained shear strength not exceeding 2kg per sq.cm. (200 kPa) : l2m For a very dense cemented granular soil : 20mn These provisions should apply regardless of whether there are piles extending to a deeper hard layer. Depths shall be measured from the level at which the ground provides effective lateral restraint to the building. For soils less deep than these limits the subsoil shall be considered as firm.

Ductile shear walls are those in which the height-to-width ratio of individual walls exceeds 2. Walls of limited ductility are those that do not comply with this ratio. 2. Timber shear walls are those in which a timber frame is clad with timber sheathing in such a way as to form a diaphragm capable of resisting horizontal loads. 3. For structures in which members employ both prestressing and nonprestressed reinforcement to resist the seismic load a K value shall be determined by interpolating between that for reinforced concrete and prestressed concrete giving consideration to the proportion of the seismic load resisted by the two materials. 4. Structures not falling within the categories listed in this table may be assigned a K factor by interpolation between the tabulated K values by a comparison of the

structures ductility and energy dissipating capacity. A value of K = 4.0 should be used for structures not designed to resist earthquake. 5. This value of K is applied where the horizontal restraint is provided by only one or two columns or there is no roof diaphragm capable of transferring the seismic load between the frames. If there are three or more columns and there is a roof diaphragm the frames may fall within the category of ductile frames.
