Summary: Book XII of the Iliad details the fight of the Greeks and Trojans before the wall

that the Greeks had built to protect their ships docked on the sea shore. Hector had brought his best men, including a son of Zeus, Sarpedon. Heeding Polydamas advice, Hector decides to leave his horse-drawn chariots behind and attack the wall on foot. After some time of trying to breach the wall, and after brave warriors from both sides lost their lives, it seems as though the battle was not meant to be won by either camp. However, Zeus meant to give Hector victory, and towards the end, he enabled Hector to lift a massive stone which he used to break open the gates of the wall. The book ends with the Trojan soldiers charging into the Achaens stronghold. Figures of Speech 1. Simile - fought on and on like a furious tempest 2.
