Facilities
PRTI training complex comprises the main four-storey building, the drilling workshop
and the hostel. It also has a full scale drilling rig in the central quadrangle, which towers
above the surrounding buildings as a prominent landmark in the area. The offices,
classrooms, auditorium, library, laboratories and cafeteria are situated on the ground, first
and second floors of the main building.
Class Rooms
There are four specious class rooms on the first and second floors,
each with a seating capacity for thirty students and equipped with
a video player and monitor, overhead projector and pull down
screen, while board, and flip-paper boards. Equipment for 35-mm
slide-tape projection and multimedia projection is also available.
Auditorium
The auditorium, situated at the east end of the second floor, has a
spacious, raised stage and comfortable terraced seating capacity
for 120 people. It is equipped with hi-fi-sound system, a large
projection screen and a multimedia projector. Other available
provisions are overhead 35-mm slide and 16-mm movie
projection systems, together with all necessary training aids. The
auditorium is centrally air conditioned. It is ideally suited for
seminars and lectures.
PRTI Laboratories
Exploration Lab The exploration lab on the ground floor facilitates.

Drilling Lab
At the cast end of the first floor, a Digitran WS-1000 desk top
Drilling Simulator offers World-class Blowout Prevention and
Well Control training. It simulates rig floor functions, allowing
students to practice the different procedures necessary to control a
kicking well. Some typical problems can be designed by the
instructor that challenge the operator and reveal his level of
experience and competence.
The colour graphics system displays surface drilling equipment and their functions and
down hole cross-sectional view of the well.
Apart from regular well control methods such as Driller, Wait &
Weight, Concurrent and Volumetric, several other training
applications can be performed including Shut-in Procedures, Loss
of Circulation, Leak-off Test, Multiple Kicks, Down Hole
Problems, Equipment Failures, Kicks with Pipe Off Bottom, Gas
Migration.
Equipment failures and abnormal well conditions can occur either by student error or
instructor intervention. When defining an exercise, the instructor may include directions
to initiate one or more of these situations following a specific event.
Software package includes several modules written in “C” programming language and
run under VENIX operating system.
Production Lab

Mechanical Lab
The available courses provide the participants a thorough knowledge of diesel engine and
rig equipment operating procedures. The theory includes
principles involved in four stroke diesel engines, identification of
various engine components, service and over hauling procedures,
along with machine practices that are required during engine
reconditioning. The shop work permits students to dismantle,
inspect, measure and assemble a diesel engine.
Just in front of the workshop, a drilling rig is installed where trainees get acquainted with
various key parts of drilling rig.
Computer Lab
Present PRTI has two computer laboratories. Each lab has 12 desktop personal computers
and other teaching aids, enabling PRTI to accommodate 24 participants at a time. One lab
has recently upgraded with Pentium IV processor based PCs, connected via network for
sharing information and resources, resulting in distributed databases and data processing
facilities.
PRTI provide basic and advanced training in software packages, software development,
hardware, network design and management, database design and management, systems
analysis, computers in technical fields, like Computer Aided Designing, Project
Management, Risk Analysis, Computer Aided Mapping and Interpretations.
PRTI offers a range of computer courses from the preliminary Introduction of DOS and
Microcomputers to the advanced networking and software development courses. Special
courses can be arranged on demand.
