JK Fabrication
tackles longline
fishing amendments
Seattle, WA, June 29, 2015: JK
Fabrication has been very busy in regards to the North Pacific Fishing
Management counsels amendment to
legalize longline fishing with pots for
the Gulf of Alaska sablefish industry. JK
Fabrications longline haulers make up
a high percentage of the Alaskan Fleet.
One advantage to upgrading haulers is
to develop greater torque and to avoid
changing the drive back when returning to conventional longlining. Jim
Kreider, president of JK Fabrication
reports the company has been working
on an established line control instrument that can control and monitor line
speed, payout and tension. With the addition of a line controller in the wheel
house and at the hauling station the capabilities to adjust set point parameters
with alarms increases confidence that
you will not break lines or lose pots.
With the extensive work and testing
on our fairlead roller to convert it to
a load cell, the 8 roller sends a signal

to the LCI-90 line control instrument,

which in turn offers a constant tension,
to keep the line strength within proper
working load limits, we are very excited
about the possibilities, Kreider stated.
The system is proven and has been
used on commercial fishing vessels as
well as research winches. Kreider believes the cost to convert or replace the
complete hauler to fish pots in Alaska
will be more cost effective with JK Fabrication than with any other manufacturer.
