INCI NAME Sodium Laurylglucosides Hydroxypropylsulfonate OVERVIEW SugaNate 160NC is a naturally-derived, highperformance surfactant that provides numerous advantages for a variety of formulations. Using SugaNate 160NC, formulators can start with a high-foaming product and buildto preferred aesthetic properties, without concerns of irritation to eyes and skin. SugaNate 160NC is also very low in toxicity and costeffective when compared to other surfactants used in typical sulfate-free formulations. SugaNate 160NC is 100% natural carbon biobased, derived from natural materials. FORMULATING WITH SUGANATE 160NC Building viscosity in sulfate-free formulations has long been a challenge for formulators. A simple combination of SugaNate 160NC with lauramidopropyl betaine will give high viscosity formulations at solids levels that are achievable in all types of formulations. Graph 1 shows combinations of SugaNate 160NC and ColaTeric LMB at 35% solids. Viscosity increases dramatically when the amount of LMB is above 20%. Viscosities greater than 40,000 cps were obtained with LMB content of 25 40%. Graph 2 shows a combination of SugaNate 160NC/ ColaTeric LMB at a ratio of 65/35 with solids varying from 15 35%. This combination offers viscosity of 5,000 cps even as low as 25% solids. While introducing other ingredients will change these levels, it is beneficial to know that viscosities of this magnitude can be achieved.
