Dawson College, in conjunction with the Educational Society for Resource Management, (APICS Montreal) offers a five-module series

of courses in Production and Inventory Management. The objective of the courses is to facilitate successful certification exam preparation for the CPIM- Certified in Production and Inventory Management designation. The program enables employees to gain technical and functional know-how, as well as the confidence to enhance their job performance. Participants will understand how to deliver products and services Just-in-Time, streamline operations through accurate forecasting, and manage all aspects of the supply chain. Upon completion of the program participants will be able to demonstrate increased production and inventory management technical knowledge to the employer, demonstrate confidence in their ability to contribute to the organizations success, gain peer and industry recognition for their professional abilities, and establish study skills, professional growth, and self-assessment skills that last a lifetime. The CPIM program is composed of the following courses: 1. Basics of Supply Chain Management 2. Master Planning of Resources 3. Detailed Scheduling and Planning 4. Execution and Control of Operations 5. Strategic Management of Resources. Each course consists of 27 hours of instruction, with the exception of Basics of Supply Chain Management; which consists of 30 hours of instruction. Upon completion of each course, CPIM candidates can schedule an appointment to write their certification exam. Students must obtain an APICS Customer number from APICS at 1(800) 444-APICS if they are not members. To register for an exam, call ASI customer service at 1(800) 274-8399. The APICS Customer number or Member number is required. ASI will register the student at the Computer Based Testing (CBT) site in Montreal. All five CPIM exams are administered by computer and offered throughout the year. Specific dates and hours of operation vary per site. The exams are given at: Montreal Polar Bear Center, 800 Ren Lvesque, Suite #990, Montreal. Please note, students may not communicate directly with the test site. They must call ASI for all changes or other information. Registration may also be done by internet by accessing the APICS site at http://www.apics.org/certification/CPIM/domestic.htm or the ASI site at http://www.asisvcs.com. Each exam costs $110U.S. for members and $145U.S. for non-members. Upon successful completion of these five modules and examinations, participants will receive their CPIM designation. Please note, students who have already successfully passed some of the exams in the seven-module program may receive some equivalencies (see CPIM Reconfiguration: Transition Mapping sheet). BASICS OF SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT This course is a prerequisite to the other modules of the CPIM program. It introduces the key concepts that are covered in greater detail in those modules. Developed to fulfill the need for fundamental education in manufacturing and resource management, this course presents a complete overview of the planning and control of the flow of materials into and out of an organization. Participants will develop a better understanding of the various components of the entire manufacturing enterprise and how they fit together. Topics include: introduction to materials management, forecasting, master planning, material requirements planning, capacity management and production activity control, inventory fundamentals, inventory management, physical distribution, quality management and purchasing, Just-in-Time manufacturing. *This course consists of 30 hours of classroom instruction. The passing grade is 60% overall.* MASTER PLANNING OF RESOURCES In this course, students will explore the processes used to develop sales and operations plans, identify and assess internal and external demand and forecasting requirements and affect an achievable master schedule consistent with business policies, objectives and resource constraints. The course focuses on developing and validating a plan of supply, relating management of demand to the environment, and developing and validating the master schedule. Topics include: concepts for transforming sales, marketing and business requirements into a feasible and economic operations plan in various business environments, concepts and methodologies for managing projected and actual demands from distribution networks and external customers, methods for integrating sales and operations plans, demand forecasts and customer demand into a specific master schedule. *This course consists of 27 hours of classroom instruction. The passing grade is 60% overall.*

Course Descriptions- Production & Inventory Management (Continued) DETAILED SCHEDULING AND PLANNING This course is focused on material and capacity scheduling and planning. It includes a detailed explanation of material requirements planning (MRP), a technique suitable for use in job shops. In addition the course introduces another material planning technique, material-dominated scheduling, which is applicable to process industries and other mature production environments. Topics include: capacity requirements planning, capacity-planning techniques, processor-dominated scheduling. *Each course consists of 27 hours of classroom instruction. The passing grade is 60% overall.*

EXECUTION AND CONTROL OF OPERATIONS This course focuses on three main areas: prioritizing and sequencing work; executing work plans, implementing controls and reporting activity results; and evaluating and providing feedback on performance. This course explains techniques for scheduling and controlling production and process operations. Topics include: quality initiatives and continuous improvement plans, controlling and handling inventories, techniques for evaluating performance and collecting data for effective feedback. *This course consists of 27 hours of classroom instruction. The passing grade is 60% overall.*

STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT OF RESOURCES For maximum comprehension of course content, students should be familiar with the information and concepts presented in other CPIM modules before taking this course. In this course students will explore the relationship of existing and emerging processes and technologies to manufacturing strategy and supply-chain related functions. Topics include: aligning resources with the strategic plan, configuring and integrating operating processes to support the strategic plan, implementing change.

Receipts: Tuition fees of $100.00 or more are tax deductible. Official receipts for this year will be mailed in February of next year. Note that receipts are sent to the address listed on your registration form. To ensure that tax receipts are sent to the proper location, please notify the Centre for Training & Development of any address changes. Withdrawals: Fees are non-refundable. Participants must withdraw prior to 5 working days before the start of a course in order to receive a full credit toward a future course. Participants who officially drop a course for a valid reason before the second class has begun will be entitled to a refund of 50%. In all other cases fees are non-refundable. Cancellations: We reserve the right to cancel or reschedule on short notice. A course may be cancelled or rescheduled if enrolment does not meet minimum requirements. In such a case, participants will be notified by phone as soon as possible and fees will be fully refunded. We do not accept any liability except for fees paid to Dawson College. Certificates: Upon successful completion of the five modules and examinations, participants will receive their CPIM designation.
