Building Construction Supervisors Safety Course

Introduction Safety is of primary importance to contractors who work on construction sites. A contractor who adopts good safety measures will reap the benefits in several areas. He will reduce the cost of compensation to injured workers. He will lose fewer manhours and will be able to complete projects on schedule with minimal work stoppage. Safety on sites also improves staff morale, improves staff relationships, and enhances the security of families and the community. BCA Academy conducts this course to help contractors maintain good safety practices on sites.

Course Contents Principles of accident prevention The workplace safety and health act (WSHA) and the factories (Building operations and works of Engineering Construction) Regulations Role and duties of safety supervisors Safety in scaffolding Safety in demolition, excavation and piling construction Machinery and equipment Safety in material handling Safe use of lifting machines, appliances and gears Safety in lift installation Site planning and layout Fire prevention and control Basic industrial hygiene General worksite safety Accident investigation techniques

Details Schedule: English evening class will be starting on: 14 October 2013 03 December 2013 Duration: Lessons: Time: 34 hours 30 hours (11 evenings or 4 days) 2 evenings per week (6.30pm to 9.30pm) or 4 days (8.30am to 5.30pm) Venue: BCA Academy Fee: S$310.00 (inclusive of GST) Course Delivery: English or Mandarin Fee payable (Inclusive of GST) by company after SDF course fee support^: $ 165.14 (Normal Funding) $ 49.25 (Enhanced Funding for SME) Application forms must be accompanied by payment of course fee. Skills Development Fund (SDF)
Companies are required to enrol their staff (Singaporean or Singapore Permanent Resident) through WDAs SkillsConnect system @ www.skillsconnect.gov.sg. Eligible applicant only pays the balance of course fee (inclusive of GST) after SDF course fee support.

Assessment: 4 hours

Objective At the end of the course, the participant should be familiar with:a) The safety hazards in the construction industry; and b) The preventive measures for safe work. Target Audience This programme will benefit Construction Managers, Site Supervisors, Project Coordinators and Clerks-of-Works. Certification A participant must attain at least 75% of physical attendance to be eligible to take the examination at the end of the course. Those who pass the examination will be awarded Certificate in Building Construction Supervisors Safety Course issued by BCA Academy. Participants who failed the examinations are not allowed to re-sit for the examinations unless they have gone through the course again. Assumed Skills and Knowledge The Applicant must: be a Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident or holder of a valid employment pass / Work Permit; and Achieved ESS Workplace Literacy and Numeracy (WPLN) level 4 or equivalent.

By submitting and signing this application form, the company and individual applicant agree to the following: a. The company and individual applicant has read and understood the terms of the brochure (if available) and the application form. b. The company and individual applicant warrant that the particulars given in the application form are accurate. c. The Building and Construction Authority (BCA) can disclose to other government agencies any information relating to this application. d. Payment for the course must be made before the course commencement date. e. Any Direct Debit and Direct Credit Authorisation for GIRO applications previously signed and passed to BCA will apply to payments made under this course. f. BCA Academy reserves the right to accept or reject the application for whatever reason. g. BCA Academy shall at its discretion allocate a space to the registered applicant, based on availability. h. BCA Academy reserves the right to amend any details relating to the course, revise the course fees without prior notice, cancel or postpone the course. i. Request for withdrawal or replacement must be made in writing. Requests are subject to approval by BCA Academy: Written request for replacement must reach BCA Academy at least 3 working days before the course commencement date. There will be no additional charges for suitable replacement. Written request for withdrawal that reaches BCA Academy At least 2 weeks before the course commencement date: 10% administration fee is payable. Less than 2 weeks but more than 3 working days before the course commencement date: 25% administration fee is payable. 3 days or less before the course commencement date: There will be no refund of course fee. j. Request for postponement of participation in the course must be made in writing. Written request for postponement that reaches BCA Academy At least 2 weeks before the course commencement date: 10% administration fee is payable. Less than 2 weeks but more than 3 working days before the course commencement date: 25% administration fee is payable. 3 days or less before the course commencement date: There will be no postponement granted. There will also be no refund of course fees even if the applicant is not able to attend the course. k. The Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points indicated for any course offered by BCA Academy is subject to change and final approval by the relevant professional accreditation bodies. l. Funding and subsidies offered by BCA / BCA Academy or third party organisations for the courses are subject to approval. The company must make the application for funding and subsidies. Neither BCA nor BCA Academy is to be held liable and the company agrees to pay BCA the applicable funding amount if funding and subsidies are either granted at a reduced amount, not granted at all or if funding is revoked, for whatever reason. All information, materials, services, intellectual property and other property and rights provided by BCA and BCA Academy during the course are provided on an as is basis. BCA and BCA Academy makes no warranties of any kind, either express or implied, as to any matter, and all such warranties, including warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose, are expressly disclaimed.
