Timer Board - Suffix A
115 VAC input (For EVR, EVS & EVT actuators) General Description The timer board is a solid state device that allows you to program actuators to automatically control valves in repetitive on/off functions. The switches for programming the "on" time provide 255 options for setting the length of time the valve remains open. This can range from 6 seconds to 25 minutes. The other set of switches, for programming the "off" time, provide 255 more options to set the length of time the valve remains closed. This range is from 5.5 minutes to almost 24 hours.

Suffix B Cycle time rate regulator installs within actuator enclosure. Board shown is for EVS and EVT actua-

General Description The cycle time rate regulator board allows control of open and close times by pulsing the motor in either the "open" or "close" cycle, or both. Setting the two potentiometers on the board extends the open or close time of the actuator depending

The positioner is used for flow-throttling applications in response to an external control signal, (current,-milliamps-mA), potential-volts (VDC) or resistive (ohms). The actuator will cycle and stop at any desired position between full open and full closed. The positoner circuit board is located inside the actuator enclosure. The operation of the positioner is based on the comparison of two currents, one derived from the liquid signal and the other from the feedback potentiometer driven by the actuator.

Extended Duty Motors 75 to 100% - Suffix E

(For EVT actuators. Standard with all EVS and EVT actuators and the positioner option.) General Description Actuators for on/off service have motors that typically are rated for a duty cycle of 25% or less. Actuators used for modulating valves must have motors that are rated at 75 to 100%. Modulating valves are often required to cycle frequently which increases the heat generation of the motor and increases the temperature within the housing. Extended duty motors are used which allows extended periods of operation without overheating.

Electric Failsafe (Battery) Suffix L2

(For EVS & EVT actuators) General Description The electric failsafe board allows you to shut down your process system in the event of an AC power loss. Engineered to supply dependable valve actuation to fail-open or fail-closed. It can provide up to 15 complete cycles under its own power. The electric actuators are driven by a powerful DC motor that runs on either AC or DC input voltage. The electric failsafe feature incorporates a rechargeable battery pack on a plug-in modular PC board under the actuator cover. Upon power loss or a signal from an external sensor, the battery pack is automatically activated as the motor power supply. During normal operation, the unit monitors the battery pack to keep it fully charged. After a failure, and once power is restored, the recharging cycle is re-activated. LED indicator shows charge condition. It is recommended that a heater and thermostat be specified if the operational temperature falls below 50F. Remote Fail Option
Electric Failsafe Suffix L2 shown for EVS and EVT actuators

The actuator has the ability to fail on an external condition other than power loss, by wiring in a thermostat, fusible link or relay. This allows the actuator to fail on temperature, tank level, external alarm, etc. Battery Replacement EVS2, EVS3, EVS6, EVS3K, EVS6K & EVS10K should be replaced every 18 to 24 months. EVT20k & EVT30k should be replaced every 18 to 24 months.

Series LS Control Stations

For All Electric Actuators
Easy, No-Hassle Actuator Control
All electric actuators need some type of switching device to control them. But why go to the trouble and expense of fabricating control stations on site? Hayward LS Control Stations can be ordered factorymounted directly to a Hayward actuator making a neat, compact valve/actuator package. Or, if preferred, they can be mounted off the actuator to a nearby or remote wall or control panel. A color-coded wiring harness makes this kind of field installation easy. LS Control Stations also provide highly visible valve position indication. Models are available that will allow both local and remote actuator control for maximum application flexibility.

Easy to Use
Manual selector switches on the Control Stations control the position of the actuator, open, stop or close. Colored indicator lights show the position of the valve and are a standard feature on all LS Control Stations. A green light indicates an open valve, red a closed one.

Single or Dual Station Control

A single LS Control Station can be used for local control of the actuator. Adding a second station permits actuator control from a remote location as well. A selector on each station switches control from one station to the other on demand or both stations can be deactivated simultaneously. The highly visible indicator lights clearly show each stations status.

Features
Corrosion-resistant enclosure Remote and/or local actuator control Mounts to actuator, wall or panel Easily installed in the field Valve position indication lights Rugged, heavy-duty construction Eliminates need for switch fabrication

Adapts to all Applications

Because of their modular design the LS Control Stations can be easily modified to meet the requirements of almost any automated valve operation. Switching, indication and number of stations can be designed to suit each specific application.

A Better Way to Control Automated Valves

Why bother to custom-fabricate switching controls for your electric actuator? Hayward has a better solution the Series LS Actuator Control Station. Just connect a power source and you're ready to put your automated valve into servicewithout loose wires, hanging switches or confusion about whether the actuator has opened or closed the valve. And the LS Control Station can be mounted directly to the actuator, near it or in a convenient remote location. Not just for new installations, the Actuator Control Station can easily replace existing "make do" control wiring. The color-coded wiring harness makes a field retrofit simple to do.

Bus Control System

For cost effective multiple automated valve installations
Haywards unique Bus Control System for multiple automated valve applications will dramatically reduce installation and maintenance costsas well as provide a level of enhanced flexibility and utility never before possible. Applications
Systems that utilize 8 or more electric or pneumatic actuators can benefit from Haywards Bus Control System Technology. Typically these systems have automated valves controlled by a programmable logic controller (PLC). What Hayward Bus Technology does is to allow all the actuators in the systems to be controlled by the PLC with just a single pair of wires. While all installations can utilize and benefit from Hayward Bus Technology, the greatest potential for cost savings comes when the actuators are located at a distance of 50 feet or more from the PLC. Typical applications include multiple automated valve systems in aquariums, zoos, water parks, water treatment plants and chemical processing plants.

Why Bus Is Better

In conventional installations a bundle of power and signal wires is run from the PLC or control station to each actuator. For example, an electric actuator with just two auxiliary limit switches could have as many as 9 wires run to it. Multiply that by the number of actuated valves in the system and you can see how complex it can get. And the more features the actuator has the more wires that have to be connected to it. In multiple automated valve applications the number of wires can run into the hundreds. Heres where Haywards Bus Control System can make for a better, more cost efficient installation. With Bus Technology a single pair of wires is used to control all of the actuators in the system. All the actuators in the systems are daisy chained on the same pair of wires. Each actuator is assigned a unique address which identifies it to the PLC. Only the designated actuator has the ability to read and act on the control instructions intended for it.

Pneumatic Bus Control System mounted on a butterfly valve

Real Cost Savings

The industry standard cost for discreet wiring (design, conduit, wire, installation, etc.) is $8.00 per foot versus $2.00 per foot with Bus Technology. In a system with 20 actuators installed an average of 200 feet from the PLC, the installation cost savings would be $24,000 for a system using Haywards Bus Technology. And remember that this is just the savings on the installation cost alone. Think of what it will cost to maintain and troubleshoot a maze of hundreds of individual wires.a cost that would not exist with Haywards BUS control system.

Application Flexibility
Applications that are well along in the design stage can still take advantage of Haywards Bus Control System. In both a conventional and BUS system installation, the computer interfaces with a PLC. The PLC simply sequences the operation of valves and is already commonplace in most multiple valve systems. Therefore, there are no significant changes required to the main control station to take advantage of Haywards Bus Technology.

visual indicator clearly displays the percentage that the valve is open or closed. Solid state inductive sensors located inside the enclosure provide reliable and accurate position sensing. This reduces wear on the mechanical switches and helps prolong their service life.

The module features an integral solenoid valve and is available in brass or stainless steel construction. This special solenoid is a high flow, low power consumption unit with the pilot solenoid protected within the module enclosure. Solenoid power is provided directly from the AS-I or DeviceNet twisted pair, Hayward Bus Technology also takes into Fieldbus: A communication simplifying electrical connections. Electrical Bus Module Features

The electrical Bus Module is a plug-in type protocol module that allows for maximum flexibility. It mounts directly into the actuator housing and is completely contained within the housing. This eliminates the need for external additions to the actuator or any additional brackets. Several different protocol modules are available to handle all applications parameter requirements.

Electric or Pneumatic Automation

Hayward Bus Control Systems work with Hayward EVS Series Electric Actuators and Hayward Series PH or PK Pneumatic Actuators. The Bus Control Module for the electric actuator fits inside the actuator housing. The one for the pneumatic actuators is contained in a small housing that mounts directly to the actuator and provides power as well as signal to the actuators.

Pneumatic Bus Module Features

The pneumatic module is housed in a transparent, screw-on Lexan housing that is rated NEMA 4, 4X, and IP67. The large color-coded

Universal Control Panel for Automated Valve Systems

Cost effective control for up to 25 automated valves
Now you can control, sequence and monitor automated valves without the complexity and cost of a programmable controller or the confusing maze of wires associated with hard-wired relays. Haywards Universal Control Panel is used to control the operation of 5 to 25 electrically or pneumatically actuated valves by taking advantage of control relay technology. These electronic relays are very compact devices that serve as multiple timers, counters, clocks and relays and are the heart of the panel. The control relays in the panel can be easily programmed to perform endless combinations of actuated valve control operations designed for your particular application. And this can all be done without the need for expensive programmable controllers or hard-wired relays. This extremely flexible, low cost panel features a base design which can easily be customized to fit the requirements of just about any application.

Application Capabilities
Typical applications are for relatively small, compact systems with 5 to 25 electric or pneumatically-actuated valves. Multiple filter banks with backwash systems, photo processing units, small waste and water treatment plants, HVAC control and sequencing, and PC board manufacturing equipment facilities all are excellent candidates for the Hayward Universal Control Panel.

display messages to accommodate the most complex applications. A standard main power disconnect switch is provided for added safety and a UL 489 circuit breaker allows power to be wired directly to the panel without the need for other circuit breakers or fuses. Clearly marked terminal blocks make wiring connections easy. An easy-to-read LCD display shows circuit diagrams and continuous function updates. It is also easy to program the LCD to display messages. The panel can be readily customized with indicating lights, alarms, interposing relays and selector switches, and is AS-Interface and PROFIBUS compatible.

Easily Programmed
A Hayward Automated Valve Specialist will work with you to configure your Universal Control Panel and to program it for your application. Alternatively, the Panel can be programmed remotely and a new control chip module installed in a Panel already in a system. While designed for use with Hayward Automated Valves, the Panel will work with electric or pneumatic actuators from just about any manufacturer.

A Case History
The following illustrates the capabilities of the Universal Control Panel. In this case, the goal was accurate control of an automated system with a bank of eight backwashable filter vessels. When the differential pressure of any of the filter vessels exceeded 15 psi, the backwash cycle was started by the opening of a pair of 3-way valves on either side of the vessel. The total number of valves involved was 20 (8 filters x 2 valves/filter, plus 2 supply valves and 2 drain valves). Heres What Haywards Universal Control Panel Did in the Above Application Responded to 8 differential pressure switches to automatically start the backwash operations. Controlled the sequence of all valves and the duration of all backwash operations. Verified that the differential pressure had indeed decreased following backwash. If the differential pressure has not returned to acceptable levels, it would have repeated the backwash cycle 3 more times. It would have set off an alarm if the differential pressure was not acceptable after 3 backwashes. Haywards Universal Control Panel did all this without the need for expensive PLCs.
