ZUMBROTA The youngest musician and only guitarist to win the coveted Naumburg International Competition Award, Jorge Caballero is known for his dazzling virtuosity, his intense musicality and his spellbinding performances. He performs at Crossings on Friday, September 27, at 7:30 p.m. Caballero, a native of Peru and son of a guitarist father and singer mother, was steeped in music from the start. He spent many evenings sitting backstage at his mothers concerts and learned to play guitar from his father, having already absorbed much knowledge about the instrument from listening to his father give lessons. His professional training began at the National Conservatory in Lima, then continued at the Manhattan School of Music. He won the Naumburg, the Pulitzer Prize for musicians, in 1996 at the age of 19. Since then he has continued to astonish and delight audiences around the world, performing as a soloist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Orchestra of St. Lukes, the New York Chamber Symphony. His recital appearances include performances at New Yorks Alice Tully Hall, the Library of Congress in Washington (in the historic Great Performers Series), the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco, the Da Camera Society in Los Angeles and other venues in the United States and internationally. His performance of Mussorgskys iconic, Pictures at an Exhibition, was featured at the Austin City Limits Life Theater. Audiences wont want to miss this performer!
