August 1 9:13 a.m. A female reported that she was trying to catch a baby potbelly pig. An officer was unable to catch the pig. It was later captured and will be held until owner is found. 3:46 p.m. Lifeline called and requested an ambulance for a female who had collapsed. 4:19 p.m. A male requested that he wanted to remove some of his belongings from a previous apartment and he had a no contact order. ZUMBROTA The youngest musician and only guitarist to win the coveted Naumburg International Competition Award, Jorge Caballero is known for his dazzling virtuosity, his intense musicality and his spellbinding performances. Registration is now open for the October 26, 2013 administration of the ACT college readiness assessment. The registration deadline for students who intend to take the ACT on this date is September 27. Students may register for the ACT online at www.actstudent.org or by mail. Paper registration forms can be obtained from school counselor offices or by requesting a registration packet from ACT. Students must submit a photo of themselves to register for the ACT. The deadline for submitting a photo for the October test date is Oct. 18. The ACT is a curriculum-based achievement exam. It measures the academic skills and knowledge that students have learned in school and need to know to be ready for first-year college courses. The ACT comprises four multiple-choice subject examsEnglish, mathematics, reading and scienceand takes about three hours, plus breaks, to complete. An optional writing test, which takes an additional 30 minutes, is also available. Students who intend to take the writing portion should register for the ACT Plus Writing. The cost to take the ACT (with no writing test) is $36.50. The cost to take the ACT Plus Writing is $52.50. Fee waivers are available to qualified students who cant afford the registration fee. Students should apply for a fee waiver through their school counselors office. All four-year colleges and universities across the nation accept ACT scores for admission purposes. ACT sends score reports only when authorized to do so by the student. Students may authorize ACT to send score reports to up to four institutions at no additional charge when registering for the exam. Each test taker receives an ACT score report that includes a wide variety of information to assist with course planning, college readiness, career planning and college admissions. Passed 4-0-0. A memo and map were presented to the Council regarding tax forfeited properties to the State of Minnesota. 36 of properties were forfeited in 2011 and 8 more will be forfeited in 2013. The City acquired 4 of these parcels in order to add to an existing park. Mayor Holmes and Administrator Boulton do not wish to acquire any of these for public purpose use or for redevelopment. The Council agreed that they do not wish to compete with the private sector. The lots will be leased to individuals willing to utilize the lots for agricultural purposes for 10 years. These leases will have termination clauses for development purposes. Mayor Holmes opened up the public hearing on abatement clean-up procedure at 7:42pm - no public input was given, closed at 7:49pm. Luke Wallaker - written request to go door to door asking residents if they wanted street numbers painted on curbs. The request said that there would be a charge of $6.00. The request has been denied. The Council did not wish to see any numbers painted on curbs. The Council decided to table the request. The Council has concerns with uniformity within the community. Administrator Boulton will inform Mr. Wallaker of the decision and concerns. *Next City Council meeting on 9/9/ 2013.
