SVS MOTORIZED ROTOR

1. GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The SVS Motorized Rotor supports projectors/display screens up to 100 lbs. and provides an ideal solution for many A/V applications that requires a projector/display screen to be rotated. 2. ROTOR SPECIFICATIONS: Rotor Capacity Rotation Range Rotation Speed Overall Dimensions (W x H x D) Voltage Low Voltage Control Position Repeatability Tolerance Weight Warranty 3. OPTIONAL ACCESSORIES: Accessory #2 Plenum Shroud required for plenum rated ceiling Accessory #9 Projector Mount to attach the projector to the Rotor. Accessory PMT-9 Screen Mount to attach display screen to Rotor Wall Plate Controller wall mounted switch to control Rotor PLEASE READ THROUGH ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE PROCEEDING WITH YOUR INSTALLATION OF THE SVS ACCESSORY #8HD MOTORIZED ROTOR 4. PRELIMINARY INSTALLATION CHECKS: Warning: Keep all persons and obstructions clear of the Rotor during operation. SVS recommends that the Rotor support structure holds at least four (4) times the weight of the Rotor and projector/display screen combined. Always follow your local building codes. Required space for the Rotor, Projector/display screen, and accessories should be considered prior to installation. Check for obstructions that may prevent the Rotor or accessories from being installed or operated. Failure to maintain proper clearance around the projector could result in damage to the projector. Plan for necessary Rotor low voltage control cabling, projector audio/video/control cabling, and power connections. Do not install the projector on the Rotor until the Rotor, hardware, and accessories have been properly installed and are operational. Preliminary measurements should also be made to layout the orientation of the projector and Rotor to the screen. Consider if the lens is offset from the center of the projector and thus the center of the Rotor.

5. ROTOR SUPPORT STRUCTURE The SVS Rotor should be mounted from four 3/8 rods. The mounting hole locations are marked with a <M> in Figure 1. The threaded rods must be supported by a rigid structure. If the threaded rods exceed more than 2-feet (0.6 M) from the support structure to the Rotor mounting holes, cross bracing should be installed between the support rods. Shown in Figure 2. 6. ACCESSORY #2 PLENUM SHROUD INSTALLATION
If an Accessory #2 Plenum Shroud is used, drill or cut any holes required for cabling in the shroud. Electrical grommets or bushings should be used for all holes to protect cabling from sharp edges. It may be necessary to seal these holes after the install is finished. See Figure 3 for shroud installation details.

1. Place a 3/8-inch hexnuts and a flat washer on each thread rod at about 11-inches above the finished ceiling. 2. Align the holes in the top of the shroud with the four 3/8-inch threaded rods. Sliding the shroud up, until the bottom open edge is flush with the finished ceiling. 3. Across the front threaded rods install the first piece of 1 -inch channel iron and position it to support the shroud, then place a hexnut on the two front threaded rod, with flat side up to support the channel iron. Install the second piece of channel iron across the back threaded rod in the same manner. 4. If the shroud needs to be shortened in height, the bottom can be trimmed.

7. ROTOR INSTALLATION a. Preparation: 1. The Rotor is shipped in a cardboard box. 2. Do not remove the Rotor from the box until you are ready to install the Rotor. 3. Carefully remove the Rotor from the box when ready. Save all packing material until installation is complete. b. Installing the Rotor in the Ceiling 1. Place a nut and a flat washer on each threaded support rods. See Figure 3. Plenum Shrouds require an additional nut/washer/nut installed on the threaded rods above the nut Figure 4. Mounting hardware and washer for the Rotor. 2. Raise the Rotor into the ceiling and line up the four (4) Rotor mounting holes with the 3/8-inch threaded rods of the supporting structure. 3. Once the Rotor has been placed on the threaded rods, add a nut to each threaded rod below the Rotor frame. Always leave the top nut loose to allow adjustments until the Rotor is leveled. 4. Level the Rotor's Projector Adapter Plate side-to-side and front-to-back using the lower nuts on the threaded rods. 5. Once the Projector Adapter Plate is leveled, secure the Rotor to the threaded rods by tightening the upper nuts. Do not over tighten the upper nuts as it could distort the Rotor. 6. Mount the Rotor Electrical Control Box within 32-inches of the Rotor. 7. ELECTRICAL WIRING & CONTROL (See page 10 & 11) a. The Rotor is controlled with 24 VAC using the terminals on the Rotor. Connecting the 24VAC Common terminal (yellow) to the CW terminal (green) turns the Rotor as long as the connection is held or until the Rotor reaches the CW limit switch. Connecting the 24VAC Common terminal (yellow) to the CCW (black) terminal turns the Rotor as long as the connection is held or until the Rotor reaches the CCW limit switch. SVS recommends using at least 22 AWG cables to connect the Rotor to external switches or controllers. If connecting to an external controller: Hold relays on to turn the Rotor. Program a release of relays to stop the Rotor Program a time out after the normal runtime, 1.5 minutes max. Never leave voltage on the CW/CCW. Always program a release after the rotation time has been achieved. b. Connect the Rotor to 115VAC using the supplied 6-foot power cord or hardwire by removing the plug from the power cord.

8. ROTOR ADJUSTMENT a. The Rotor clockwise and counter-clockwise limits are controlled by limit switches mounted next to the Rotor shaft. When the bolts attached to the Rotor shaft press the limit switches, the Rotor will stop. The top limit switch sets the clockwise limit, and the lower limit switch sets the counter-clockwise limit. See Figure 4 Rotor Adjustment. b. To set the clockwise limit: 1. Loosen the upper bolt attached to the shaft 2. Turn the Rotor to the desired position 3. Position the upper bolt so that it presses the top limit switch, and tighten the bolt. 4. Turn the Rotor counter-clockwise and Figure 5. Rotor Adjustment then clockwise to ensure that the Rotor stops at the desired position. 5. Re-adjust the upper bolt as necessary. c. To set the counter-clockwise limit: 1. Loosen the Lower bolt attached to the shaft 2. Turn the Rotor to the desired position 3. Position the lower bolt so that it presses the lower limit switch, and tighten the bolt. 4. Turn the Rotor clockwise and then counter-clockwise to ensure that the Rotor stops at the desired position. 5. Re-adjust the middle bolt as necessary. Warning: Turning the Rotor by hand will damage the Rotor. 9. MOUNTING THE PROJECTOR After checking the Rotor operation and all clearances, the projector/display screen can be installed. Projectors can be attached by bolting the Accessory #9 Projector Mount or your projector mount directly to the Projector Adapter Plate using the supplied hardware. See Figure 5. The four slots are 1.25 (31.7mm) long by .25 (7mm) diameter.
