Barnes Method English...

Its How Natives Think
various colleges are interested in teaching using this method, for example:

About the email below,

He said:
I am a professor and I am looking for a method as I am decided that I will open a good English school in the axis
Goiânia-Anápolis-Brasilia (those are Brazilian cities in the middle of Brazil)
I got your contact through the internet and the indication of your phone many times linked to the Method Barnes.
I would like to know the methodology and resources applied as well as the possibility of applying the method to a
conventional school.
-----------------------
I asked him at the answer to contact you. I said we did a partnership in translation that is why my name is there and
that you are the creator of the method

Good luck
Best,
Gil
Subject: Re: MÉTODO BARNES

Gilseane Stefani,

Sou professor universitário e procuro o método porque estou decido a abrir uma boa escola
de inglês no eixo Goiânia-Anápolis-Brasília.
Consegui o seu contato na internet, inclusive com a indicação de um número de
telefone (07951048218), várias vezes vinculado do Métdo Barnes.
Gostaria de conhecer a metodologia e os recursos empregados bem como a possibilidade
de aplicação do método numa escola convecional.

Se puder me ajudar, fico grato.

 Personal Profile

one of the things you are going to love about me is i'm a hardworking individual with an analytical
approach to creating solution. I look forward to new challenges and accept the responsibility required to
face these with enthusiasm. I am friendly and can adapt to any type of situation that the workplace
environment demands. I am capable of multitasking and working independently. If it is asked of me I
can be both creative and innovative with the aim of producing new ideas/processes beneficial to others or
myself. I am patient with situations and always try to find the best from them.

 Skills

• writing books and articles

• teaching various subjects english, music, relaxation and social abilities
• Excellent verbal/written communication skills which enables my delivery of high quality
presentations & good interaction with the public
• Well spoken telephone manner
• Patience in relation to situations
• Wide range of computer knowledge
• Proficient at summarising information from several sources
• Advanced proofreading abilities
• Creative thinker with good organisational and time management skills e.g. I meet times

 Teaching Positions

I worked at Widows & Orphans for 1 year as an ESOL/Literacy teacher. Whilst there I taught many
different levels of students, plus students from various ages and cultures. This was both as the main
teacher as in a support role. Through this experience I have developed many techniques to teach those
with learning disabilities or language difficulties. Whilst here I also covered the basic skills computer
course; teaching students Microsoft Word, Excel and Access. In a private capacity I also taught both
computers and English around this time and enjoyed it thoroughly.

Since then I have taught privately for 3 years. I teach Cambridge First Certificate, IELTS, Life in the UK,
ESOL and Literacy. I am often required to create a class specifically for the student e.g. helping them
learn the words and phrases for their business. I have written many of my own materials and support my
students through my website. I often receive messages of praise and thanks from my students due to my
additional specific efforts for them; and also for the results of passing their chosen exams.

 Reception/Office Work

I worked for 6 months at the Citizens Advice Bureau in a receptionist/administrative position and I
worked 3 months for Age Concern in a similar role. Both positions involved the use of a fax machine, a
photocopier, entering monitoring data into Excel spreadsheets, typing letters, posting letters, filing,
answering/transferring telephone calls from reception and passing on messages. In the Age Concern role
I suggested that I could improve their spreadsheet monitoring system. I was given the responsibility of
this, plus that of compiling the past seven years worth of data into a more organised and manageable
structure. I also created a user guide for Microsoft Excel in conjunction with the staff, with the purpose
of helping them use the spreadsheet monitoring system.

 Other Work 2001-2007

Employer: B. Spencer and Peaches

Job type: Greengrocer
Responsibilities: Stock control, stock tacking, stock replenishment, rotation, taking telephone enquires,
cash handling and customer service. Dealing with the public was a major part of this job and I gained
experience from this role that I feel will be relevant to any post that involves interacting with people. On
several occasions I had to seal produce into bags, weigh and price it. This was as the produce came onto
the premises loose but the customers expected a packaged product. On Sundays I was given the
responsibility of looking after the shop by myself, which I enjoyed.

Employer: Network Rail

Job type: Railway maintenance (OHL)
Responsibilities: Repair/maintenance of a variety of different trackside structures, Rail to structure
bonding, Stihl saw usage, retaining copper, denso taping bolts, operating specialist equipment like Stihl
saws/Permaquips and distribution of equipment.

Health and Safety was a very important issue in this job and I took part in several courses as soon as I
started. Therefore I now have a far better understanding of H&S procedures/first aid than I did before. I
was trained in using specialist equipment during this role and I possess a willingness to obtain any
industry specific qualifications in the future if I am required to do so.
