Job Purpose: Assist reporters and editors with daily reporting, features for numerous products (print and digital. Scope: Provide skills across a wide variety of projects (print and digital) focusing on writing and reporting.
Essential Job Responsibilities: Create, report and write assigned stories. Provide consistent support for Editor and Managing Editor in administrative tasks (list of tasks to be determined) Provide scheduling, follow-up and effective communication of needed tasks, ensuring tasks are completed by agreed deadlines Actively participate in web design projects. Previous rodeo experience is a plus. Spot desk assignments as needed Post content to the Internet. Scheduled or as needed. Cross train to understand overall workflows and recommend improvements Secondary Responsibilities: Coordinate with Editor and Operations Director on larger scope project needs Job Requirements: Organized and able to balance day-to-day tasks with special projects to meet deadlines in a fast-paced and demanding environment. Bring your A-game to projects whether they are grand and exciting, simple and repetitive, print or digital. Able to establish good working relationships with strong personalities under both optimal and challenging conditions. Solid in the technical understanding and use of Word, Powerpoint and Excel. Adept at learning new programs and leveraging their strengths to AMG goals. Good working knowledge of websites and general design concepts for digital needs. Knowing WordPress is a plus. Strong-willed with equally strong work ethic. Able to balance initiative with good judgment, playing well with others to achieve results, taking pride in the product you create and demanding the same of others. Professional bull riding, calf roping, steer wrestling or mutton busting experience will be considered. Confident in your knowledge of industry standard printing practices, familiar with prepress standards and technically proficient with the programs required for getting the job done. In all things, think with an ownership mentality. Qualifications: Current journalism student with school newspaper experience helpful. Strong grammar and spelling skills utilized in copy proofing. Physical Requirements: Must be able to handle deadline pressure and high stress work environment. Must be dependable, punctual, have good attendance and have the ability to work well with others. Must be able to write and speak English. Must be able to sit for long periods of time with a good portion of this time on the telephone or computer. Must be able to move from place to place within the building and outside for meetings or to call on customers. Must be able to have repetitive motion of hands and arms to input/retrieve information from computer. Must be able to bend/reach to get materials from floor, high and low shelves. Must be able to mount/dismount horses as needed. Must be able to lift/carry up to 20 lbs. such as briefcases, newspaper bundles, advertising materials, etc. Must be able to speak clearly to make presentations and hear responses. Must be able to travel outside the building and in inclement weather.
