In the business of advertising and communications it is often said that if its packaged well it can be sold. This truism has held water as markets have exploded across the world. Now in its 21st year since liberalisation, the rise of the packaging industry can be seen in every departmental store, every super market indeed, in every street corner. Perched on top of a market that is expanding at a breathless pace, UFLEX is by far, India's largest manufacturer of flexible packaging material. It is the arrow head that is leading India's charge in one of the world's most exciting categories. This industry has been surging forward at between 15% and 20% annually with the Asian market accelerating more rapidly than North America or Western Europe. With this trend continuing, Asia is expected to emerge as the world's largest regional flexible packaging market soon, accounting for more than one-third of the total demand (Source: industry data). China's share is expected to be 10% of global demand up from 8% in 2008. India, on the other hand, with a compounded annual growth rate of 15% is growing the fastest. It's easy to see that the Indian flexible packaging market is more dynamic than any other and UFLEX is its leading light accounting for not just a majority share of the Indian business, but also commandeering exports to more than 110 countries. capacities and higher utilisation of existing resources. The company believes that exploring new markets and investment destinations is an ongoing process, as is innovation in product development. It is this that has ensured longterm relationships with customers, globally. The progressive outlook the company projects, therefore, reflects well on its growth and stamps the company's commitment to its stakeholders. But what makes UFLEX such a runaway success

History
Promoted with a small investment in 1985 by first-generation entrepreneur, Ashok Chaturvedi, UFLEX, today, symbolises the vision of a man who placed India's packaging industry on the international map. In doing so he demonstrated a fine and rare ability to visualise the needs of an emerging middle-class and the industry that would cater to it. He saw the escalating interface the consumer would have with the developed world and realised that this would significantly influence the yardstick by which he measured aesthetics and quality. It was this that helped him anticipate changing consumption patterns and the demand for convenience-based quality products. As it transpired, these factors were catalysts in propelling consumption of branded products and, as a consequence, the increased use of flexible packaging. Combining innovativeness and entrepreneurial skills, he applied the most up-to-date international technologies for tailoring and designing packing material. Inspired by the customers' need for quality and the industry's need for prompt delivery and service, he decided to integrate backwards in the manufacture of polyester film, biaxially-oriented polypropylene and co-extruded films, gravure printing cylinders, inks, adhesives and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) chips. This allowed the company to fully control all critical raw material inputs as well as ensure that deliveries were met on time every time. UFLEX, today, is a global flexible packaging conglomerate headquartered in NOIDA, a suburb of New Delhi. The company has seven manufacturing plants in India, besides manufacturing facilities in Dubai, Mexico, Egypt, Poland and the United States.

optically brilliant with unmatched mechanical strength and toughness, excellent dielectric properties, superb flatness and good coefficient of friction. A wide range of thicknesses, excellent dimensional stability over a range of temperatures and resistance to solvents, moisture, oils and grease give the product added versatility. The company's oriented polypropylene products (OPP) comprising of BOPP and cast polypropylene (CPP) films are highly cost effective and functionally efficient. They have found ready acceptance in the high-barrier sensitive packaging segment, across the world. Today, these films are being used extensively in packaging tea, coffee, tobacco, confectionery, biscuits, bakery products, pasta, dried foods and meats. The technologically superior BOPP films are truly versatile. Thanks to their outstanding properties, BOPP films can be structured in up to three layers and tailored for almost any machine requirement. They are capable of meeting both rotogravure and flexography printing standards. UFLEXs CPP film is highly dynamic and versatile, offering high-gloss, greater transparency, good twisting properties and better tear strength. These factors are essential for food wraps, anti-wraps, garment bags and deep freeze applications. Recyclate PET (rPET) films is a new range of Green films which contain up to 30% rPET resins obtained by a tertiary chemical glycosis process. A special surface layer allows the film to be directly embossed. The embossing, carried out at lower temperatures, leaves deep and sharp impressions. The surface can be metalised

Brand Values
Latest technology, supply reliability and customer trust are the keys to the incredible success of this brand. The UFLEX mantra is simplicity. Indeed, the basic question that precedes every new decision at UFLEX is: will it help to serve the consumer better and faster? The slogan 'progress with distinction' underscores the company's vision of becoming a leading billion-dollar corporation in the world with complete flexible packaging solutions for its customers and maximum value for its stakeholders. UFLEX, its managers and employees are deeply conscious of the degradation of the world's environment. The company is constantly initiating clean technology mechanisms for socially beneficial projects and energy conservation by using ecofriendly technologies, enforcing reduction in the use of carbon-based resources and waste recycling.

is available as a hightransparency or metalised film with zero memory and high twist retention properties. Since the industry involves strong customisation, UFLEX has developed several production lines that cater to these demands. Today, it has emerged as literally a one-stop shop that manufactures everything under a single roof: polyester chips, PET/OPP/CPP/ metalised films, rotogravure cylinders, liquid inks, laminating adhesives and specialty coatings, converting equipment, pouch making machines, multi layer laminates in various combinations of films, pre-formed pouches, holographic films, labels and seals and packaging machines.

Recent Developments
UFLEXs agenda of global growth and consolidation of its position as a truly Indian multinational corporation is reinforced with its strategy of capacity expansion. The company has added manufacturing lines for new product categories in its facilities in Dubai, Mexico, Egypt, India, Poland and the US. This move has accomplished two things: it has brought markets closer to its production bases and it has helped bring to its clients valueadded products at competitive prices. During the financial year ended 2012, UFLEX completed the second phase of expansion of its facility in Mexico aggregating a total capacity of 60,000 metric tonnes of PET film and commissioned an AL-OX coater, CPP plant of 12,000 metric tonnes and a PET film line with a capacity of 30,000 metric tonnes in Egypt.
