Setting up the MagIC R8


Please ensure that the latest TermposEMV (currently version 10.04.00) is loaded onto the device before installing it. When setting up multiple R8s on site please ensure that each device has a unique IP address.

Installing TermPOSEMV software on a terminal with no software loaded previously:


What you need: USB Drive. Formatted with FAT file system. TERMPOSEMV 10.04.00 R8 Unit. Put the TermPOSEMV software in a download folder on the flash drive. It should read F:\download and inside the folder F:\download\TermPOSEMV100400 Boot up the R8 and keep pressing the star button on the keypad. The device will ask you for a maintenance code. Enter 7509 and press enter. 1. Select format memory from the menu. 2. Select yes with the arrow keys. Select the execute option. You are now in the OS menu. 1. Insert the flash drive at the back of the device carefully. 2. Wait for it to display a USB logo at the top of the screen. Wait for the USB drive to be properly detected by the R8 If the USB is formatted correctly and the download folder is correct you will see: --------------------------___USB Key dw1___ TermPOSEMVxxxxxx

--------------------------If more than one option for TermPOSEMV is on the USB drive, select the appropriate one with the arrow keys and press the menu button. After all the files are downloaded and installed/extracted it will ask you to Continue Download? Select NO. The device should boot into the TermposEMV screen now. ------------------Terminal ready ------------------Waiting for Network -------------------

Updating TermPOSEMV software on the terminal with software already loaded:


USB Drive. Formatted with FAT file system. TERMPOSEMV 10.04.00 R8 Unit. Put the TermPOSEMV software in a download folder on the flash drive. It should read F:\download and inside the folder F:\download\TermPOSEMV100400 Insert the flash drive into the back of the unit in a USB slot carefully. 1. If the USB is formatted correctly and the download folder is correct it will ask you to download. 2. Select yes. 3. After all the files are downloaded and installed/extracted, the device will display an info screen. 4. Press the menu button. 5. It will ask you to continue downloading. 6. Select NO. The device should boot into the TermposEMV screen now. ------------------Terminal ready ------------------Waiting for Network -------------------

Setting up the R8 for LAN interface mode.


From the main screen (see above): 1. Press menu. (Select Key) 2. Select Applications 3. Select Comms config 4. Select Ethernet 5. Select 2 Port number 6. Press yellow < (delete) key 7. Enter 8000 (Media Setup succeeded) will be displayed 8. Select 3 Idle seconds 9. Press yellow < (delete) key 10. Enter 0 (Media Setup succeeded) will be displayed Press X Cancel Go down to Maintenance Select Maintenance Select Download Select Configure Select Interface Select Ethernet Choose NO with down arrow to disable DHCP Use the delete key (<) to clear the IP. Enter the IP allocated to the device. The IP must be in a format like this xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (e.g. 192.168.010.002) 21. Press Enter when done 22. Enter the Netmask: 255.255.255.000 23. Press Enter 24. Broadcast must be in a format like this xxx.xxx.xxx.255 (e.g. 192.168.010.255) 25. Enter 0s until the Gateway is 000.000.000.000 26. Press Enter 27. Select NO for DNS (down Arrow) (Media Setup Succeeded) will be displayed 28. 29. 30. 31. 32. 33. Press Cancel button twice. Go back into main menu. The unit will reboot now. Go to the Setting up the R8 for user interaction: section now.

Setting up the R8 for user interaction: This section is the final stage so that the user can see what is on the screen and to make the keypad give audio queues when the buttons are pressed. It will also lock the menu against any unauthorized access. PLEASE ENSURE THAT THIS SECTION IS DONE WHEN INSTALLING DEVICES ONSITE.

Go back to main menu. Press menu (select) Select terminal Select settings Scroll down to backlight. Select backlight. Press up arrow to activate

(Economic Mode) will be displayed 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Select keyboard Press up arrow to enable the beep. Press Cancel until you are back to the main screen. Press Menu Select Applications Go to Lock Menu Press the menu button

6. Unlock Menu should now be displayed Press Cancel twice to finish the setup. To re-enter the menu at any time: 1. Press the menu key. 2. The access code is the last 4 digits of the serial number on the bottom of the R8 unit!

FAQ:
Q: The USB drive does not get detected by the R8 A: Use the second port on the R8. Q: The second port does not work. A: Reboot the device and try again. Q: I cannot detect/ping the R8 on the local area network when I have configured it for LAN mode. A: Check the ip address/subnet range of the network you are working on and the setup on the R8. Q: I STILL cannot detect/ping the R8 on the local area network when I have configured it for LAN mode? A: open the command prompt on the server. Type ARP d and press enter. Hit the up arrow and enter again and repeat this a few times to clear the entire ARP table.

Try to ping the R8 now.
