Absences
Excused Absences are absences for a good reason such as a doctor’s appointment, a
military physical, or a death in the family. All excused absences must have a note to be
excused. You must give me a note by the next class after the absence. After one week, I
will not accept a note.

Un-excused absences are everything else. Any absence from a class without a valid note
is an un-excused absence. SIX UN-EXCUSED absences will result in a failure.

*A detailed explanation of how courses are evaluated can be found on the Third Floor by
the Teachers’ Offices.
Classroom Policies

1) This is an English Language Class: I will deduct participation points for

excessive Korean speaking.

2) Presentations: Presentation times will not be changed unless a valid

excuse form can be supplied. A typed copy of the presentation must be
submitted to the teacher at the beginning of the presentation. No typed
copy= No presentation.

3) Assignments: Video and audio assignments must be in wmv. format. If it

is not, it will not be accepted.

4) No cell phones: Please do not text in class or answer your phones. Phone
use may result in your choice of either a loss of 5% from participation
points or having the teacher take your phone for one week.

5) Communication with your teacher: If you need to contact me please

follow these rules:
• Email: only use yahoo/gmail/hotmail accounts. In the past, Korean
email accounts have been known to reject emails from teachers.
• Must include: name/student ID/ course code
ex:(AnneKidd/20097654010/SCI11i04)
• Feel free to contact me any time. I hope to be able to answer any
questions you may have.

2) Come prepared for class: Come prepared each day with your correct
textbook, the same notebook and all class handouts. I recommend
purchasing a notebook and a small folder as you will be taking some notes
and receiving handouts in my class.

3) Ask questions: Asking questions is the best way to learn about things you
don’t understand. If you need to talk to me you may make an appointment
to talk with me at my office or through email.

4) No plagiarism: DO NOT copy from the internet, newspapers, magazines,

books or other students. Copying other people’s work and using it as your
own idea is plagiarism. It is both ethically wrong and illegal. Any
amount of plagiarism on either the mid-term exam or final exam will
result in a grade of zero on your exam. If you are unsure about

5) No food in the classroom. Drinks are fine.
