Neutrophil production is decreased due to inability of the bone marrow to produce mature white blood cells In leukemia, lymphocytes decreases because they are crowded out of the bone marrow by the early forms of white blood cells

HEMAPATHOLOGIC REPORT
PERIPHERAL SMEAR Smear shows microcytic, hypochromic erythrocytes with wild anisopoikilocytosis. Leukocytes are increased in number, consisting predominantly of blast forms. The rest of the WBC population is composed of mature lymphocytes. Thrombocytes are slightly decreased in number, showing normal morphology Differential Counts Blasts: 72% Lymphocytes: 28% Neutrophils: 1 %
BONE MARROW SMEAR The bone marrow smears are hemodiluted with peripheral blood showing a monotonous population of lymphoid precursors, which is predominantly composed of lymphoblast. These cells have small round nuclei, noting strict chromatin with inconspicuous nucleoli surrounded by very scant pale blue cytoplasm. There is a decrease number in myeloid and erythroid precursors observed. There are no megakaryocytes seen.
