Subject Code: PQT1H Paper: QUANTITATIVE TECHNIQUE II Specific Instructions:

Answer all the four questions. Marks allotted 100. Each Question carries equal marks.

General Instructions:

The Student should submit this assignment in the handwritten form (not in the typed format) The Student should submit this assignment within the time specified by the exam dept Each Question mentioned in this assignment should be answered within the word limit specified The student should only use the Rule sheet papers for answering the questions. The student should attach this assignment paper with the answered papers.

Question No 1

(a) The geometric mean of 10 observations on a certain variable was calculated to be 16.2 . it was later discovered that one of the observation was wrongly recorded at 10.9 when in fact it was 21.9. Apply appropriate corrections and calculate the correct geometric mean? (b) The coefficients of variation of wages of male workers of wages of male workers and female workers are 55%and 70% respectively, while the standard deviation are 220 and 15.4 respectively. Calculate the overall average wage of all the workers given that 80% of the workers are males.

(a) From the following prices of these groups of commodities for the years 2004 to 2008, find the chain base index numbers chained to 2004: Groups 2004 2005 2006 2007 2008 I 4 6 8 10 12 II 16 20 24 30 36 III 8 10 16 20 24 (b) In an examination ,it is laid down that a student passes if he secures 30% or more marks. He is placed in the first, second or third division according as he secures 60% or more marks, between 45% and 60% marks and marks between 30% and 45% respectively. he gets a distinction in case he secures 80% or more marks. It is noticed from the results that 10% of the students failed in the examination, whereas 5% of them obtained distinction. Calculate the percentage of the students placed in second division(Assume normal distribution).
Question No 4

(a) Suppose it is known that 5 % of forms processed by a clerical pool contain at least one error. If a simple random sample of 475 forms is examined , what is the probability that the proportion containing at least one error will be between 0.03 and 0.075? (b) Two research laboratories have independently produced drugs that provide relief to arthritis patients. The first drug was rested on a group of 100 arthritis patients and produced an average of 8.5 hours of relief with a standard deviation of 2 hours. The second drug was tested on 75 patients, producing an average of 7.8 hours of relief with a standard deviation of 1.5 hours. At a significance level of 1% ,does the first drug provide a significantly longer period of relief?
