Artistic Perception – Processing, analyzing, and responding to sensory information

trough the language and skills unique to dance, music, theatre, and visual art. The
different classrooms would have key words and/or phrases from the various cultures in
order to teach its guests what dialect is spoken and the meaning behind the word or
phrase given. The guests visiting the country will get a chance to learn new words so they
may use and share the language with friends and family. This activity builds on specific
vocabulary and perceptual skills to be successful within the art form.

Creative Expression – Creating, performing, and participating in dance, music, theatre,

and visual art. The students would perform a certain dance ritual while music is being
played in the background to accompany the activity. Guests would learn how a “samba”
is performed with such great joy, or how a “tango” has so much strength and
concentration to its moves. Students will demonstrate what they have learned through
their dance performance and mastery of the steps. This activity gives the students the
opportunity to use what they have learned to participate creatively in that form.

Historical & Cultural Context – Understanding the historical contributions and cultural
dimensions of dance, music, theatre, and visual art. Students will explain the significance
of particular holidays, special occasions, and religious rituals. As each event is explained
guests can get a better understanding of why they occur and for what reason, or special
significance, the event has on the culture. This activity builds student’s understanding of
the cultural dimensions of the art discipline.

Aesthetic Valuing – Responding to, analyzing, and making judgments about works on
dance, music, theatre, and visual art. Students will display the artwork that is celebrated
from the culture. Whether the artwork is a picture of a mural, the colors of the country’s
flag, or an impressionist painting, all will add life to the overall arrangement of the
classroom setting. This activity critically assesses the meaning from the presented works
of art.

Connections, Relationships & Applications – Connecting and applying what is learned in

dance, music, theatre, and visual art to learning in other art forms and subjects and to
careers. Students will discuss with their guests how the experience to their country has
influenced their views towards the future. The performers might share with the visitors
that learning about the particular culture has influenced what career choice they will
make; whether the student wants to pursue an artistic career, or to be a music instructor,
could be one revelation. This activity builds student’s understanding in career and skills
to each arts discipline.
