Jumaa Prayer

for the Muslims of Africa and beyond

6 September 2013

West Africa Advanced School of Theology

Intercede with Us for the Muslim World!

Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy (Matthew 5:7). Man is not naturally merciful, but we thank God that He is! Pray this week that His Spirit will open the eyes of those who commit atrocities against others in the name of Islam, that they may see clearly their need for God's mercy in their own lives and accept His free gift of salvation.*

Today's Prayer Requests: From Students and Alumni

NIGERIA: An alumna asks us to pray concerning the attacks by Islamist group Boko Haram on schools in northern Nigeria. Most recently gunmen kidnapped 3 teachers from a primary school in Benin City. There have been 5 attacks on schools since June, resulting in the deaths of 48 students and 7 teachers. Boko Haram's leader declared after one deadly incident, We fully support the attack on the school in Mamudo, as well as on other schools. Western education schools are against Islam. We will kill their teachers." Pray for God's protection over these children and teachers, and that God will touch the hearts of those who would harm them. NORTHERN GHANA: A student requests prayer for the work among the Tamberma people. This tribe mixes a strong animistic tradition with Islam and Catholicism, but identify themselves as neither Muslim nor Christian. However, upon death a person is buried as a Muslim. This student planted 3 churches among them several years ago and reports that one has closed and the two others are struggling. The nearest pastor is more than 30 km away. Pray that God will open the door for this student or for another pastor to live among these people, and that He will prepare hearts to receive His message. Pray for the few believers there, for their growth and witness. TOGO: A student asks for prayer for two ladies and several young men who have accepted Jesus and been ostracized by their families. They are attending Assemblies of God churches in their respective neighborhoods, but some need permanent places to stay. Pray for God's provision for them, for their spiritual growth, and for their witness to their families. One young man is now leading a church annex; pray that the door will open for him to go to Bible school.

In the News
Please intercede concerning the escalating war in Syria. Pray for wisdom for the leaders of nations who are considering military action. The number of refugees who have fled to Lebanon, Jordan, and Turkey, has grown to more than 2 millionnearly one-tenth of Syria's populationand one-third of all Syrians are now displaced. Pray that the Lord will reveal himself to hurting Muslim people, and that believers inside and outside of Syria will have a fresh touch from God and be strengthened in Him. May they be used to reach those around them.

For Muslim Women**

Please pray for female university students to find loving host families who are eager to help them with matters of school life and matters of spiritual need. Pray that these Christian parents will be a blessing to the students, and that in turn their cups will run over as well.
