Philosophy of Educational

EDCI 5825

As a future high school special education teacher I plan to

integrate technology into my classroom to creative a productive and

engaging learning environment for all students. Technology will be

integrated in my classroom as a way to produce effective instruction,

foster collaboration and communication, and serve as a tool for

continuous professional development.

Part of my responsibilities as a special educator will entail

properly accommodating students so that their individual academic

goals and needs can be met. In an effort to do so, I will use technology

to differentiate instruction amongst the varied abilities of my students.

For instance, PowerPoint will be used as an instructional tool for

students who are visual and auditorylearners. PowerPoint’s graphic

designswill allow me to create novel and engaging lessons with picture,

sound and web inserts.

Technology will also be used as a tool to facilitate and increase

independent learning and productivity. For instance, students with

reading disabilities can benefit from assistive educational software with

text to speech components. Text to speech software can digitally

transform textbooks so that an auditory featuresupplements the text.

Thus, a student with a reading disability is bypassed by targeting the

student’s auditory strength. Furthermore, students with writing

disabilities can use podcasts to digitally record work that would

otherwise be too taxing to for them to write out.

My students will also have an opportunity to manage and assess

their academic work in various ways. I will encourage the use of Track

Changes as a form of summative assessment where students can

visually track and analyze the progress of their work. Additionally, by

creating an interactive classroom web page, I can help students

manage their academics by posting homework assignments, printable

documents, upcoming events and access to email and discussion

boards for questions or concerns.

I believe that the quality of support I provide for my students

depends largely on my continuous development, professionally. Vast

interactive educational databases and resources provide collections of

scholarly articles, interactive courses, videos and podcasts that can

enhance professional development. Essentially, acknowledging and

appreciating these virtually instantaneous resources can help ensure

that my students are receiving the most effective quality of

educational support.
