too many people who remain in bondage to sin, Satan and spiritual death. None of us should be surprised at the foolish acts of the lost. As Pastor Jon powerfully reminds us in his Buzz article, we all were equally guilty before God because of our sins. However, because of Gods great love for sinners, we have been equally set free in Christ and in Christ alone! While we should not dwell on our past, we should always remember in the present that it was only by Gods grace and mercy at the Cross that we can truly be free at last. We most likely will never have the chance to personally share the life-changing message of the Cross with Miley Cyrus. However, each of us knows someone who is in need of Gods forgiveness. In light of that reality, we are called both individually and as the body of Christ known as Bethel Baptist Church to make the best use of the time that God has given to us. That means taking every available opportunity to build bridges to the lost so that we can share the Gospel. Building bridges takes time, although perhaps not as much time as we think. The key is to start building TODAY! That is our mission, whether we choose to accept it or not. I believe that Gods will is that we accept His mission to go into all the world starting in our own community to share the Good News that Jesus Christ and Christ alone still saves! How will you use the time that God has graciously given to you? Wisely or Foolishly? Yours in Christ, Pastor Howell

We had a great time at the 2 nd Annual Choir Retreat at Sivells Camp. Our Christmas musical this year is, The First Noel, Born is the King. The First Noel is my favorite carol and can be traced back almost 500 years. Although, The First Noel, can be traced back that far, its use inside the walls of the church only reaches back to the mid -1800s. Prior to that time, it was primarily used by families, mainly in west England, and by whole villages on Christmas Eve, as the Yule log was brought in and everyone lifted their voices in celebration of the coming Christmas Day. The leaders of the church thought The First Noel, as well as many other carols, did not have the solemnity or the depth of music suitable for services inside the church building. Sound familiar? It is interesting to note that 100 years earlier Handel had been severely criticized because he had written a new work that had been premiered in a theater instead of a church. The work Messiah! Well, the first Noel really happened! The first Christmas! We are working on the Christmas musical and are looking for more players in our Churchestra, singers in our Praise Choir, and thespians for our Drama Team. If you are interested please contact me at the church office or through my e -mail. The musical will be presented on December 7th and 8th, so make plans to be here!

I am almost embarrassed to admit it but I am the kind of guy who occasionally desires a few more minutes of sleep after the rudeness of my alarm waking me from my sleep. No, not necessarily because I am tired, but to complete the dream that I was in the midst of when that squeaking, squawking, squealing slumber -buster disturbed me. Maybe I was a superhero saving the day from evil. Perhaps I was relaxing on a beach in the Bahamas, contemplating the comfort of a beach chair verses the excitement and exhilaration of a surf board. Regardless, I have a longing for lounging, a reminiscing for REM rest. Dreams are amazing and powerful persuaders. During those minutes I really believe I can fly or have super human strength. I can feel the sand and smell the salty sea. Dreams so real that I truly feel that the outcome is within grasp if I could just return. 50 years ago, a history changing dream, possibly the most famous dreams ever dreamt, was shared publically and powerfully before the massive crowds in Washington D.C. on August 28, 1963. Martin Luther King Jr., invoking the Declaration of Independence, the Emancipations Proclamation, and the United States Constitution, paints a picture of a racially integrated and unified America. I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character... I still have a dream, a dream deeply rooted in the American dream one day this nation will rise up and live up to its creed, We hold these truths to be self evident: that all men are created equal. I have a dream (Martin Luther King Jr., 1963) A very respectable dream to be sure. One we have yet to truly achieve. A dream that we cannot just hit the snooze, return to slumber and see fulfilled. A dream, impossible without Christ and Christ alone. You see, in Christ, there is true equality. Yet, it is not the equality hoped for in the million souls listening to Dr. King that day. It is this, that we are equally depraved and sinful and desperately in need of salvation. In the shadow of our Savior we are equally requiring grace, mercy, forgiveness and love so undeserved. Through these lenses the scope of our equality is unparalleled. We are all equally repulsive in our sin and self. Praise God, we are also all equal in the eyes of Christ and His desperate love for sinners such as us. Our equality in sin is overmatched in our equality in His sight. For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through Him(John 3:16-17 ESV) Equality is a funny thing when we really pause to ponder the implications. Our equality in sinfulness drives our equally desperate need for a Savior. His great love for us is not something that we deserve. It is not something that we have earned with our equality in faithfulness or goodness or love or selflessness. We are all equal in fact; equal in our undeserving, missed -the-mark, sinfulness. But praise God, He loves us so! And through Christ and Christ alone and the wonderful gift of grace and mercy found at the Cross of Calvary we cannot only echo Dr. Kings sentiment but more importantly live lives which amplify the Clarion call: Free at last, free at last...PRAISE GOD ALMIGHTY WE ARE FREE AT LAST

Welcoming others is central to the life and ministry of Bethel Baptist Church! Serving on our Sunday Morning Welcome Team offers a great way to welcome and connect with others, especially newcomers. It truly is a dynamic expression of the inclusiveness of God's love for all. For many it is a natural first step in serving and an easy way to get involved with the church. It would involve directing visitors to classes, answering questions about activities and events, and assisting in making those that arrive at Bethel to feel cared for. We ask that you prayerfully consider serving on this ministry team, and if you feel led to be a part of it please give the church office a call at 437-7311.

A WARM WELCOME
to Amy Tillotson who has joined our counseling ministry staff! Amy comes with a tremendous amount of education and experience. She is a licensed clinical social worker and has been working in numerous capacities in the Alamogordo community. Amy has been working for the past two years as a clinical social worker for Life Transitions located at Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center. She has been a social worker for the VA as well as a Home Health/Hospice worker. Amy is accepting new clients. She is working Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. To make an appointment with Amy, please contact the church office at 437-7311. Chuck Hoyt and I will continue to work in the counseling ministry on a part-time basis. I will not be accepting any new clients at this time, but will continue to work with my current clients. My plan is to eventually retire (that date is not determined as of yet..it depends on the number of grandbabies we have and how far we have to travel to see them!) We are excited that Amy, a long time member of Bethel Baptist, has joined our counseling ministry team. She will be a great asset to us, to the church, and to the community. Joyfully serving Him, ~ Candy Schoeneberg
